Tomato Verlioka F1: description and characteristics of the hybrid, reviews and photos of those who grow

History of the variety's creation

This tomato was bred by Russian breeders in the last quarter of the last century, while experts set themselves the task of developing a tomato variety that would be distinguished by good yield, resistance to diseases and temperature changes, as well as early ripening of tasty fruits with a good appearance.

As a result, in 1990, after variety testing, a new tomato hybrid was included in the Russian state register and recommended for cultivation in film greenhouses and greenhouses.

And only in the south of Russia can the Verlioku tomato be grown in garden beds.

Optimal growing conditions

The variety is intended for cultivation in open ground and protective structures.

  • In the greenhouse.

It is most effective to grow the variety in spring greenhouses, since its fruiting period is not long enough for winter heated greenhouses. It can be grown separately or as a compaction for tall varieties. In buildings that are not very high, the variety is compacted with low-growing tomatoes. Plants in the greenhouse must be provided with high-quality ventilation.

  • In open ground.

In some regions, not all fruits may have time to ripen and, sometimes, pinching the top is required to limit the number of ovaries.

Tomato Verlioka F1: variety description

Verlioca is a hybrid, so seed material from its fruits is not suitable for further growing seedlings and plants - they will not retain the positive parental qualities.

On a note!

This hybrid is early ripening; from the moment of seed germination to the harvest of ripe tomatoes, it usually takes about 3.5 months.

The Verlioka tomato is classified as a determinate type,

therefore, the bushes are small in size - up to 1-1.1 m in height, and about 0.6 m in diameter. The shoots are erect, strong, and have medium foliage. The formation of lateral shoots is low, internodes are elongated. The foliage is medium in size, smooth, with a characteristic shine, rich emerald color.

It is recommended to form Verlioka tomato bushes into no more than a couple of stems, which must be tied to strong supports.

The first inflorescence is formed through 5 true leaves, each subsequent one - through a pair of leaves. The fruits are collected in clusters, each of which can contain up to 6-10 tomatoes. If the bushes of this tomato are watered and fed on time, then during the ripening period, neither foliage nor shoots are visible behind the red fruits.

Tomatoes of this variety are approximately the same size and weight, round, smooth, shiny. The average weight of Verlioka tomato fruit is about 90 g. The skin is compacted, of medium thickness, its color is deep red. The pulp is quite dense, with fleshy walls, juicy, and there are 3 seed chambers inside.

On a note!

The taste of the Verlioka tomato fruit is sour-sweet, with a characteristic tomato aroma.

It should be noted that even if the fruits do not have time to ripen on the bushes, they can be collected green and left to ripen in room conditions - in a few days they turn red, while remaining dense and tasty.

The skin of this tomato variety is not prone to cracking, so the harvested crop can be transported to any distance, but it will not be possible to store ripe tomatoes for a long time.

Prevention from diseases and pests

Tomatoes Verlioka: photo of the variety

As we have already said, the Verlioka F1 tomato has excellent immunity characteristic of hybrids and is able to resist the main “tomato” diseases: late blight, fusarium, cladosporiosis and masaic. But this does not mean that you can’t take care of your tomatoes. When a manufacturer talks about disease resistance, it means that you will take care of the plants and create comfortable conditions for them:

  • water carefully, making sure that the water does not erode the soil at the base of the stem;
  • loosen and weed, this is the key to success;
  • remove the weeds from the greenhouse;
  • remove shoots and yellowing or drying leaves in a timely manner;
  • ventilate!

If you follow these simple rules, your Verlioka tomatoes will be in perfect order and the harvest will not be long in coming.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Verlioka hybrid

The main advantages of the Verlioka tomato variety include:

  1. early ripening of tomatoes;
  2. productivity is good;
  3. the seed material has excellent germination (almost 100%);
  4. the bushes of this tomato can easily tolerate short-term temperature fluctuations;
  5. good resistance to most diseases;
  6. fruiting is stable and friendly;
  7. can grow quietly with a temporary lack of sunlight;
  8. the harvested crop is of universal use;
  9. Tomatoes collected green can be ripened indoors.

Rules for planting and care

The Verlioka f1 hybrid was bred for cultivation primarily in greenhouse conditions. Therefore, planting seeds for seedlings should be done in early to mid-March. The deadline for planting seeds is the end of March - the beginning of April.

Before planting, Verlioka tomato seeds, provided that they were purchased this year, do not need to be disinfected. If desired, they can only be soaked in a growth stimulator for quick germination and better rooting.

The ideal soil for planting seedlings is a special soil mixture for growing seedlings. It's perfectly balanced. You can mix the soil mixture with regular soil from the garden in a 1:1 ratio.

A drainage layer 1.5-2 cm thick must be placed on the bottom of the container. Fill the container with earth. You should not bury tomato seeds too deeply. The planting depth is 1.5-2 cm, no more. Don't forget to water after planting.

The ideal air temperature for quick and friendly seed germination is +23˚С +25˚С. When the first shoots appear, move the container with seedlings to a sunny place. Plants must receive sufficient sunlight. But at the same time, make sure that the bright rays of the sun do not ruin your seedlings.

Attention! To guarantee a bountiful harvest, you need to purchase Verlioka f1 tomato seeds annually. It is useless to prepare seed material yourself - the hybrid does not retain varietal characteristics during subsequent planting.

If there is a lack of sunlight, it is advisable to provide the tomatoes with additional illumination using fluorescent lamps. Seedlings grow well at a temperature of +20˚С +22˚С. In the phase of 2-3 formed leaves, it is necessary to pick and feed future tomatoes for the first time.

The following are excellent fertilizers during seedling growth:

  • Ash;
  • Fertilizers based on phosphorus and potassium;
  • Organomineral fertilizers.

Water the seedlings only with warm, settled water. The Verlioka tomato does not require too frequent watering. The appearance of the foliage will tell you about the lack of moisture, as well as its excess. With excessive watering, the stepsons and leaves grow very quickly and turn pale, the plant loses resistance to diseases and pests, and with insufficient watering, the foliage withers.

Before transplanting Verlioka F1 tomato seedlings into the greenhouse, you need to take care of the soil in advance. The soil must be fertile and loose. Two weeks before planting tomatoes, you need to dig up the ground, after adding ash, compost or rotted manure to the soil.

At the end of May - beginning of June is a favorable time for transplanting seedlings. The distance between plants should be at least 35-40 cm. It is not recommended to thicken the plantings. The Verlioka tomato responds to a lack of free space and nutrients with a sharp decrease in yield.

Tomatoes should be watered every 4-5 days with warm, settled water. Too much watering will provoke active growth of stepsons. “Verlioka” does not tolerate heat well, so at high temperatures the greenhouse must be constantly ventilated. During the summer season, many summer residents open the greenhouse in the morning and close it only at night.

Tomatoes “Verlioka f1”, according to the description and reviews from summer residents, need to be formed into one or two stems.

You will learn how to properly form a tomato bush from the video:

Gartering for a hybrid is a must. If there are too many ovaries, care must be taken to ensure that the plants do not break under the weight of the fruit.

Important! After the formation of the third flower cluster, the stem must be pinched.

Verlioka tomatoes should be fed with nitrogen-containing fertilizers until the first flower stalks appear. Subsequently, you can fertilize the tomatoes 1-2 times with fertilizer based on phosphorus and potassium.

Otherwise, caring for tomatoes is no different from traditional activities: timely weeding and loosening.

Planting tomatoes Verlioka

Tomatoes of this variety are grown in seedlings. In this case, seed material has to be purchased every year at specialized points, since Verlioka is a hybrid.

But this also has its advantage - after purchase, the seeds do not require pre-planting treatment at home. They should only be soaked in growth stimulants for germination before sowing.

On a note!

It is necessary to plant seed material for Verlioka tomato seedlings 55-60 days before transplanting the seedlings into greenhouses. Usually this procedure is carried out in early March in order to transplant the plants into closed ground at the beginning of May.

The soil for growing seedlings must be loose and fertile. Basically, vegetable growers prefer to buy such a nutrient substrate in specialized stores.

It is laid out in containers, the seeds are laid out in rows on the surface of the substrate, covered with a thin layer of soil on top, watered with a spray bottle and covered with glass to create a greenhouse effect inside - in this case, the seed material will germinate faster.

Before mass shoots appear, containers with seeds are placed in a bright room with an air temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius.

We grow seedlings

It is necessary to sow seeds for seedlings in mid-March or early April. We recommend following the step-by-step instructions below.

Seed preparation

Choose the largest ones - they have more nutrients. From such seeds, plants will grow strong and healthy.

Before planting, it is recommended to disinfect the seeds by soaking them for 15-20 minutes in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate. This way you will save them from possible diseases.

Soil preparation

If you plan to buy soil for seedlings, choose peat soil. If you are going to prepare the soil yourself, then mix the soil, humus and add sawdust to loosen the soil.

Choosing a container for seedlings

For the Verlioka variety, the best choice is seedling boxes. In them you can care for all the sprouts at the same time and move the container to the right place without any problems.

Sowing seedlings

Before planting, moisten the soil, make 1-2 cm depressions in it at a distance of 5 cm from each other. Place the seeds in the recesses and cover the box with film.

Place the containers in a room with a temperature of +25 degrees.

Growing and caring for seedlings

After germination, move the boxes to a well-lit room. The temperature should not be higher than +20 degrees. At night, open the window for micro-ventilation, but there should be no drafts. Until the first leaves appear, it is enough to spray the ground with water.

As soon as leaves appear on the sprouts, they need to be dumped into separate containers. When replanting, do not forget to feed the soil with liquid nutrition. Spray with moderately warm water from a spray bottle.

Transplanting Verlioka tomato seedlings to a permanent place of growth

Greenhouses are prepared for planting tomato seedlings in advance - the structures are disinfected, the top layer of soil is replaced with fresh, nutritious and loose soil.

On each square of the greenhouse area, no more than 4 Verlioka tomato seedlings can be planted. Planting is done in pre-prepared holes, covered with a layer of soil on top and watered.

Feeding tomato bushes

After transplanting the seedlings into the greenhouse and its complete acclimatization, the Verlioka tomato bushes are fed with nitrogen fertilizer for active growth of the vegetative mass.

From the beginning of flowering and during the ripening of fruits, superphosphate and potassium salt are added under the tomato bushes to actively form ovaries and improve the taste of ripening tomatoes.

Growing in soil

The soil requirements in the greenhouse remain the same - the soil must be nutritious and airy. Verlioka tomatoes are sensitive to substrate deficiencies; you should not expect large yields on poor and heavy soil.

Verlioki bushes are planted at a distance of 40-50 cm from each other. You can fit 4 copies on one square meter. The plant cannot do without a garter, so you need to drive a support near each bush.

It is recommended to form a bush into one stem. The growth point should be transferred to a side shoot. To do this, you need to pinch the stem, leaving two leaves above the 3-4 inflorescence. A stepson is left under the upper inflorescence, from which further growth of the stem will continue.

Excess stepsons need to be removed regularly. Some gardeners advise picking off a pair of leaves located below the fruit every day from the beginning of ripening.

After transplantation, nitrogen fertilizing is given. Phosphorus will also be useful; it will help the plant quickly take root in a new place.

During the period of budding, flowering and formation of ovaries, tomatoes need to be fed with potassium and phosphorus, completely eliminating nitrogen.

Moderate watering is recommended, once every 5-7 days, depending on the speed of soil drying, with warm water.

Tomato Verlioka: reviews from those who planted and grew the hybrid

Most opinions about this hybrid are positive, but there are features in growing the variety and some disadvantages that gardeners mentioned in their reviews of the Verlioka tomato.

Vera, 50 years old, Podolsk: I first planted this variety of tomato 4 seasons ago. The salesman in the store where I was choosing seeds for planting advised me to plant it. In the first season, I did not form bushes, so the tomatoes grew small and the yield was not very good. But the next season I already formed this tomato into two shoots, as a result, I collected 5 kg of ripe fruit or so from each bush. We had enough for food, and we also put it in jars. I plant it every year now.

Olya, 44 years old, Voronezh region: This year I planted the Verlioku tomato for the first time. The yield was good, but the fruits were too watery. I probably watered too often. Next season I will try to water no more than 2 times a week.

Tatyana, 39 years old, Barnaul: Every year in my greenhouse I leave a couple of beds for a new variety of tomatoes. Several years ago I planted the Verlioku hybrid and did not regret it. The fruits are sweet and sour, good in salads, and for the winter they were covered with ketchup and pickled. My family ate everything without a trace even before the New Year. In the future, I planted more bushes of this variety so that there would be enough twists until spring.

One of the best early-ripening tomatoes in terms of yield is Verlioka. Its delicious fruits can be used to prepare vegetable salads or various snacks, pickled or salted, and preserve various salads with this tomato for the winter.

The undemanding and unpretentiousness of the hybrid makes it attractive to beginner vegetable growers, who will not have any difficulty growing Verlioka in their garden.

Harvesting and application

From one square meter you can harvest more than 10 kg of tomatoes. The fruits begin to ripen in mid-June, and this variety bears fruit until September.

With moderate watering, the fruit tastes sweet. Excess moisture causes the flavor to be lost and the tomatoes become watery.

Tomatoes grow small, elastic, and are well stored and transported. They are consumed fresh, in salads, and used to make pasta and lecho. These tomatoes are perfect for canning, as they do not burst when twisted.
