And instead of bouquets, give cornflower, forget-me-not and chamomile fields
Man has long been competing with nature, its beautiful flower fields and meadows, by establishing man-made plantations and parks. Some are intended for growing flowers for sale, others are simply for beauty and pleasure. There are also practically “wild” areas - where people minimally interfere with the natural environment, rather, they support it.
More flowers on the planet - less evil
Collecting seeds for planting
To obtain seeds for planting, flowers must be pollinated by bumblebees or bees. After the end of the flowering period of the plants, after approximately 2-3 weeks from the appearance of flowers, seeds are collected for future planting. The collected seeds are light brown in color, very light, have an elongated shape and small size. 1 gram can contain from 6 to 7 thousand pieces.
Seeds are best stored in paper or fabric bags in a cool, dry place.
Where do seven million flowers grow?
Tulips are one of the Dutch brands. Although the country (which is called the “flower shop of the world”) has fields with daffodils, hyacinths and other beautiful plants, tourists come here mainly “for the tulips” (we won’t say why else, we’re talking about flowers now, right?). Their season is from March to May.
The flowering season for all flora is approximate. Exact dates depend on weather factors. These dates vary from location to location from year to year.
A huge number of plantations are concentrated near the city of Lisse in the south of the country, so you can take a car yourself and drive using the navigator. Just be careful and behave decently - farmers who make their living by selling flowers may not be happy with self-confident tourists (just imagine the constant flow of people wanting to take pictures against the backdrop of the local flora).
Field, Dutch field...
But everyone is welcome in Keuchenhof Park. This is a royal place. Literally - according to official status. And in a figurative sense - according to the impressions of visitors. At least a million tourists come here every year! According to some data (they change all the time, because Holland is trying to “outdo” other countries), Keuchenhof is the largest flower garden in the world. It covers an area of more than 30 hectares, and about 7 million (!) flowers grow here. Keuchenhof hosts festivals, fairs, all kinds of flower parades... Families with children, lovers, and single travelers will like it here.
If you really want tulips, you don’t have to go to Holland. Bouquets of these flowers can be ordered as a gift, without even leaving home.
Welcome to flower paradise
Diseases and pests
Ageratum is resistant to various diseases. Due to its tropical origin, it is an “unpalatable” plant for pests. However, despite its good resistance indicators, it is also subject to some diseases and attacks from dangerous pests:
- frequent planting and increased watering of plants leads to cucumber mosaic and bacterial wilt;
- most susceptible to invasion by aphids, whiteflies and spider mites.
Garlic tincture is the most effective folk method in pest control.
To prepare the tincture, use 220 grams of chopped garlic, poured into 1 liter of water. After 5 days, the mixture is diluted in 10 liters of water. The prepared tincture is applied using a sprayer to the infected areas of the plant. When making the tincture, you should carefully monitor the amount of garlic used in order to avoid burns to the plants in the future.
Both folk and industrial special means help to resist pests. In the fight against spider mites, it is recommended to use industrial products from insectoacaricidal preparations: Agravertin, Neoron and Nissoran. The following drugs will help you cope with whiteflies: Mospilan, Tanrek and Komandor.
Captured by sakura
Cherry blossoms are a most beautiful phenomenon. For the Japanese, watching cherry blossoms (this action is called “hanami”) is a national tradition, a whole philosophy.
Sakura does not bloom for long - only a few weeks a year (late winter - early spring). Fortunately, for hanami lovers in different cities of the Land of the Rising Sun, the timing of flowering does not coincide from day to day: in some places it begins earlier, in other places a little later. Therefore, to enjoy the views, both the Japanese themselves and guests of the islands can travel around large areas.
If you come to Japan for cherry blossoms, you will enjoy it everywhere. We recommend one of the most famous parks – Shinjuku Gyoen, which is located in Tokyo. About 100 thousand of all kinds of trees grow there (of course, those that are especially pleasant to admire), among them there are about one and a half thousand sakura - in fact, all its types.
The same cherry, only in Japanese
All over the world they are trying to replicate (and possibly surpass) Japanese parks.
- The largest alley of sakura (the largest in Europe) is located in Transcarpathia, in the Ukrainian Uzhgorod.
Beautiful Transcarpathia
- Japan itself presented Washington with more than 3 thousand sakura at the beginning of the last century as a sign of friendship, and several decades later they duplicated the gift. Can you imagine how much beauty has grown? Almost as many tourists flock to the national park in this American city for the cherry blossoms as to the Land of the Rising Sun.
Sakura overlooking the Capitol
- New York also has its own “Japanese cherry orchards”.
At the Brooklyn Botanical Garden
- Canada is not far behind. In Vancouver, Japanese cultivated cherries are scattered throughout the city (there are more than 50 thousand of them).
Do you think this is Japan? But you guessed wrong - Canada
- In the past, the Japanese also presented their sakura to Hamburg, Germany, although not in such quantities as to the Americans. The trees took root, grew and organically blended into the local landscape. You can admire them in the parks located around Lake Alster.
Sakura in German
- Let's not forget about Paris! God himself ordered him to maintain the reputation of a romantic city, including with the help of cherry blossoms. The best place for hanami in Paris is, of course, near the Eiffel Tower.
See Paris and... sakura
- Moscow also has its own gardens with sakura, for example, in the Japanese garden of the Main Botanical Garden named after. N.V. Tsitsina (RAS), in the “Apothecary Garden of Moscow State University”, in the Biryulevsky Arboretum, near the Japanese Embassy.
Cherry blossoms in Moscow
Cherry cultivated by the Japanese, as you can see, is not such a rarity in the world. But this fact makes it no less beautiful. Many thanks to the Japanese for spreading their “national tree” across the planet and its blossoms can be admired in many places around the globe.
Golden balls: planting a plant
Rudbeckia is a viable plant even without proper care. Golden balls grow normally in partial shade, although they will still do better in a sunny area. Before planting, dig up the soil to 20-30 cm and remove all weeds. Then add compost or humus (about 5 kg per 1 sq. m) and complex mineral fertilizer.
The best time to plant in this way is May. The plant will bloom in the same season. Landing is done like this:
- make holes on the ridge at intervals of 30-50 cm;
- deepen and bury the seedling;
- water;
- There is no need to compact the soil.
Attention! Regular watering will be necessary for the young plant until it takes root and takes root in the ground.
Growing dissected rudbeckia is also possible using seeds. The soil should be light, preferably slightly acidic or neutral. Seed planting is carried out in the second half of June.
Flowering variety Golden Balls
The seeds are placed on the bed, without deepening, at a distance of 15 cm from each other. Sprinkle them with a thin layer of soil on top and moisten thoroughly. In the fall, small bunches of greenery will grow on the site, and next spring they should be planted at 40-50 cm.
Attention! With the seed propagation method, the plant blooms only after a year, but earlier than Golden Balls planted vegetatively.
The color of Provence is lavender
What associations do you have when you hear the word “Provence”, besides the style direction in the interior? Of course, lavender, fields of lavender, its amazing color and smell. In the south of France, in the province of Provence (such a tautology), lavender fields bloom in mid-summer. Of course, the time varies, but the peak is always July. Come this month, you can't go wrong. In a vast area of hundreds of square kilometers, it will be magical everywhere. Both in large farm fields and in small private gardens. Festivals, exhibitions, fairs, various flower events are organized for tourists, lavender maps and lavender routes have been developed, and a lavender museum has been created.
It's nice to be in the countryside in the summer, especially if it's Provence
Planting and care
Ageratum Blue Ball is grown mainly using the seedling method, because quite a long time must pass before flowering begins. In the middle zone, when planting in the ground, the appearance of the first inflorescences can only be expected in mid-August. The southern regions are more favorable in this regard. But there’s no need to rush into landing. Ageratum Blue Ball seedlings are very sensitive to light. With its deficiency, it stretches and weakens. The optimal time for the middle zone is the second half of March.
- For planting seeds, prepare spacious containers or boxes to avoid subsequent picking into separate containers. The soil is suitable for specialized soil for flower crops. You can prepare the mixture yourself by mixing garden soil, peat and sand.
- Drainage must be placed at the bottom of the containers.
- Fill in disinfected and well-moistened soil.
- The seeds are laid on the surface at a distance of 3-4 cm from each other.
- Sprinkle with peat, moisten and cover with cling film to create a greenhouse effect.
Imagine America before Columbus
In Arizona there is a huge flower valley with wild poppies. They are not particularly watered or cultivated, i.e. the place exists in its natural form, as nature intended. For half a century it has been considered a protected area. Tourists come here, but everything is arranged here in such a way that people cannot damage the flower carpet: special observation paths have been laid, and observation can also be carried out from the hills.
Poppies have a short flowering time (from about April to May, just a couple of weeks); catching one is considered a real success for tourists.
Miraculous beauty
Another wild valley of garden flowers familiar to us - calla lilies - is located in California, almost on the very coast. The Americans also do not specifically improve the area, plus the flowers grow in hard-to-reach places, so the beauty here remains pristine.
Dreams of California
Ageratum at home
Home conditions are perfect for flower development. Unpretentious plants grow well in spacious containers with a small amount of drainage at the bottom. In winter, they delight with friendly flowering. In summer, they are placed on the balcony, veranda or secured under the windows.
Simple rules for caring for ageratum at home will help preserve the decorative appearance of plants for a long time:
- The placement of flowers in the room should be on the south side of the apartment, near the windows, with plenty of warmth and light.
- Watering the plants should be done daily in the morning, with small doses at the root.
- Purchasing ready-made soil for ageratum, with the necessary content of microelements and organic substances, will allow the plants to receive useful nutrients. At the same time, the loose structure of the soil will give the roots constant access to air.
- Complex compositions of fertilizers must be applied once every six months.
- Overgrown flowers should be divided and planted in spacious containers.
A million roses
The rose is one of the symbols of Bulgaria. The flower was brought here from Syria several centuries ago, but it has taken root so much that it is now associated with the Balkan state. Bulgarian roses are synonymous with quality flowers, and the essential oil extracted from them is considered a reference. The area where there are the most roses is called the Valley of Roses, it is located south of the Balkan Mountains and north of the Sredna Gora massif - in a picturesque place between two mountains. The flowering time here is about two months: from May to June. Then work begins on processing, isolating essential oils, hydrosols... You can go to the Valley of Roses not only to enjoy the beauty, but also to buy natural, healthy cosmetics.
Bring a girl here and virtually give a million roses
Propagation by cuttings
Ageratum is usually propagated by seeds and seedlings. Compared to cuttings, these methods are less labor-intensive and are used more often. The method of propagation by cuttings is used for breeding hybrids and to achieve a bushy plant appearance.
Propagation of ageratum by cuttings
Preparation for cuttings occurs in the fall before the onset of frost. Flowers intended for propagation are transplanted from open ground into pots and brought into a warm room. With the onset of spring, side shoots up to 5 cm in size are cut off from the plants. The place of the cuts should be below the buds, where there is a special substance that further protects the mother plant from the effects of fungus and disease. Cuttings should be planted in a mini greenhouse. Planting in open ground occurs as with conventional planting of plant seedlings.
Flower carpet in the Himalayas
The huge flower valley - a national park - is located in India, in the Western Himalayas. Its peculiarity is not only in its size (almost 9 thousand hectares), but also in the fact that it is not dominated by any one type of flower. There are more than 500 of them! Both well-known, more or less common in the world, and rare, even unique (for example, blue poppy). Due to such diversity, flowering actually continues from spring to autumn, and every month the “flower carpet” looks different.

Description: varieties and varieties of rudbeckia
Rudbeckia is a genus of flowering plants discovered by Carl Linnaeus. These flowers were brought to Europe from across the Atlantic. In the wild, the crop has several types:
- dissected;
- hairy;
- shiny;
- glossy.
Rudbeckia dissected and became the basis for the most popular ornamental variety Goldball or Golden Ball.
This is a perennial plant about 2-2.5 m high. You can see what it looks like in the photo:
- The leaves are heavily dissected and green.
- The inflorescences are dense, spherical, about 10 cm in diameter. They consist of tubular petals in the center and reed petals around.
- Double flowers. Color: bright yellow.
Perennial rudbeckia
There is another variety - Goldquelle, which is also popularly called the Golden Ball. Its difference is in height: the herbaceous plant grows only up to 0.8-0.9 m. Breeders have eliminated a significant drawback of the Goldball variety - the tendency of tall shoots to deviate in different directions under the weight of the inflorescences. This feature harms the beauty of a flower bed or flower garden.
Desert Flowers
The flower park in Dubai, Miracle Garden, or “Garden of Miracles,” was built on an oriental scale and has no less than 45 million flowers. They are decorated in stunningly complex compositions.
An installation in a Dubai park with an A-380 aircraft made of 500 thousand flowers was included in the Guinness Book of Records
By the way, the “Garden of Miracles” has a unique irrigation system (this is in addition to the fact that the huge park with greenery was actually built in the desert and operates in heat above +40 °C). Residents of the emirate use purified wastewater to irrigate the flowers in the park, but there is no unpleasant odor from it and the flowers “don’t complain”; on the contrary, they grow magnificently.
Application in landscape design
Not only garden owners are involved in growing Blue Ball ageratum. An unpretentious and long-flowering plant attracts the attention of landscape designers. The variety allows you to create beautiful compositions with brighter and taller flowers. For example, with marigolds and zinnias.
Ageratum is not bad. A blue ball will highlight the beauty of roses or clematis in purple or white-pink shades. It is also suitable for decorating alpine slides. In mono-plantings, when growing, the Blue Ball ageratum, thanks to its large leaves and abundance of inflorescences, will allow you to close large free spaces.
But first of all, due to its low growth, the Blue Ball ageratum is an excellent option for decorating borders. Can be grown in containers and flowerpots. This variety can also be used to decorate a loggia, balcony or veranda.
Ageratum planting sites
The ornamental crop is widely used for home and garden decoration. It grows most in the flower bed. When planting several varieties, a beautiful flower meadow is obtained. The combination of plant varieties with red and yellow flowers of other crops elegantly and effectively decorates any flower bed. Also used for decorating borders and alpine slides.
To create expressive flower arrangements, ageratum is grown with other decorative flowers: zinnia, marigold, calendula and many others.
A light-loving plant that requires a lot of sun and space. Planting in a shady place is not suitable for flowers; they grow more tall and lose their aesthetic appearance. For planting, choose soil that is fertile and neutral in chemical composition. Rotted manure is used as fertilizer, which, unlike fresh manure, does not burn plant roots. In poorly ventilated soil, drainage is done to avoid rotting of the root system. To do this, a layer of gravel is laid under the top layer of soil.
The best varieties of ageratum are rightfully popular and in demand among many gardeners. An unpretentious plant, when planted in a timely manner and properly cared for, gives all its connoisseurs an abundance of bright colors.
