Super-yielding cucumber “The envy of everyone f1”: characteristics of the hybrid and reviews of cultivation

History of the variety's creation

The hybrid, the envy of everyone, was bred by Ural breeders in this century, while specialists set themselves the goal of obtaining cucumbers with early ripening of gherkin-type fruits, high yield and ease of care.

The seed material of this hybrid is distributed through the Ural Summer Resident online store. And although this cucumber has not yet been included in the Russian State Register, many vegetable growers from different regions have already become interested in this vegetable crop and have been growing it in their garden beds for several seasons.

The cucumber, to the envy of everyone, is recommended by the originators of the variety for growing in garden beds in open ground, under film covers and in greenhouse conditions.

The hybrid is grown directly (by seed) and by seedlings.

Hybrid gherkins are planted in 2 ways - seedling and planting in the ground. For high yields, the following rules must be observed:

  • seed material is planted at the end of March or in the first half of April;
  • seeds are immersed in the ground to a depth of 2 cm;
  • daytime air temperature should be 25 °C, ground temperature should not be colder than 14 °C;
  • seedlings are planted after the end of night frosts;
  • the distance for planting a hybrid is 15x60 cm (60 cm is left between rows, and 15 cm between bushes) - with this layout, the bushes do not interfere with each other’s growth and air moves freely between the leaves;
  • the crops are covered with plastic wrap, the sprouts must be darkened from the scorching rays of the sun.

Growing and care

Water the bushes 3 times a week. The first 4 knots from below are cut off. This way the fruits will quickly extract water and nutrients from the soil.

When the first harvest is formed, the bushes are fertilized with nitrogen solutions.

A bunch hybrid requires the observance of special agrotechnical techniques to increase productivity:

  • it is important to ensure that the plant has a single stem - this way the ovaries and fruits, leaves and the stem itself will be better illuminated;
  • frequent feeding of the soil produces more new ovaries, and therefore more gherkins;
  • You need to water the bushes abundantly and regularly, this will prevent the soil from drying out.

Planting should be planned so that there are no more than 3 plants per 1 m² of bed.

Diseases and pests

The hybrid, the envy of everyone, has a distinctive feature - resistance to the most dangerous diseases. For example, to infection with powdery mildew, olive spot, mosaic virus. The hybrid is also tolerant to downy mildew and root rot.

It is still necessary to prevent diseases when growing a hybrid. For these purposes, it is recommended to use natural remedies - infusions of onion or garlic; you can also use an infusion of nightshade tops.

The value of the variety is its pronounced resistance to stress, which can be caused by unfavorable weather conditions. There is a very high level of fruit set in hot or, conversely, in cool and overcast weather. Even in relatively cold summers, a stable yield of cucumbers of the hybrid form “Everyone is Envy f1” is observed.

Cucumbers “The envy of everyone” F1: description of an early hybrid variety

The Envy of Everyone cucumber is an early-ripening hybrid variety, the seeds of which have positive characteristics only in the first generation, so it will not be possible to store seed material from this vegetable crop. Therefore, many vegetable growers talk about the main disadvantages of this variety:
a fairly high price and the need to annually purchase seeds of this hybrid in specialized stores.
But this, of course, does not stop those who want to grow delicious cucumbers in their garden, since the “Everyone is Envy” variety has excellent taste characteristics.

This variety is parthenocarpic - only female flowers are formed on the vines,

which do not require pollination by pollinating insects, and the fruits are formed independently, so they have practically no seeds, or are in their infancy. Each flower produces an ovary. The flowers are usually collected in bunches and appear in nodes. At least 4-5 ovaries (or more) can form in each bunch. The vines of this cucumber can reach 2-2.5 m in height; their side shoots develop well.

Good to know!

One of the positive qualities of the cucumber variety “Everyone is Envy” is the ability of the plant to independently regulate the number of side shoots. However, for better yield, it is advisable to form each plant into one stem.

It is also noted that the hybrid is capable of bearing fruit almost throughout the entire season - the first fruits are harvested in June, and the fruiting of cucumbers ends in the envy of everyone by mid-October

. Moreover, the fruits are able to ripen even in the shade, which makes it possible to grow the variety in greenhouses. Also, the shade tolerance of the cucumber variety “Everyone is Envy” allows you to grow it at home - on a balcony or windowsill.

Zelentsy are gherkin-type, reaching up to 10-12 cm in length, the diameter of the cucumbers is about 3.5-4 cm. The average weight of a cucumber is the envy of everyone - 90-100 g

. The cucumbers are smooth, approximately the same size, and have a beautiful appearance, which is the main advantage of the harvested crop if vegetable growers grow a hybrid for further sale of the product. The surface of the greens is slightly ribbed and covered with a large number of small tubercles on which short light spines are located.

The skin is thin, quite dense, crispy, with slight pubescence, rich emerald color with longitudinal stripes of a light tone. The pulp is compacted and crunches when eaten. The taste and smell of fresh green cucumbers “The Envy of Everyone” is preserved when preserved or pickled

. There are no voids inside the pulp; during heat treatment, the cucumbers do not lose their beautiful appearance and remain dense and crispy.

Reviews

Polina, 35 years old, Ural

This year I bought cucumbers called EVERYONE’S ENVY F1. Beautiful bright packaging, expensive premium seeds - they promised a simply unimaginable harvest of wonderful gherkins. There was nothing to envy. All the seeds sprouted, but the seedlings turned out to be frail, they were sick for a long time after being transplanted into open ground, and half of them eventually died. There were few cucumbers on the remaining bushes. Maybe our soil didn’t suit them or the seeds they got were of poor quality.

Timur, 52 years old, Novosibirsk

In our greenhouse near Novosibirsk, the conditions for cucumbers are far from the best. We take hardy hybrids intended for our region: Siberian Garland, Beam Splendor, The Envy of Everyone. Excellent gherkin size, smooth and neat appearance, excellent taste of cucumbers! We grow mainly for sale, but we still have enough for ourselves.

Ksenia, 48 years old, Moscow

Of all the cucumbers, I prefer small pickling gherkins. Now there are many new varieties, I want to try them all. This year I planted “Perfection Itself” and “The Envy of Everyone.” I was very pleased! I regularly removed small pickles for salting and preservation. The jars turned out like this – just a sight for sore eyes! And cucumbers taste excellent - strong, crispy, sweet.

Lyubov, 50 years old, Magnitogorsk

We recently installed a polycarbonate greenhouse, and now we are constantly experimenting with new varieties of cucumbers and tomatoes. Conveniently, there are self-pollinating or parthenocarpic plants that do not need pollination by insects. Gherkins were planted this spring. F1 is the envy of everyone. Bushes on trellises were formed into one stem: blinded up to the 5th leaf, side shoots were pinched, and tendrils were torn off. The plants are powerful, strong, hardy, and have not suffered from any disease. There are many ovaries, they are laid in bunches of several at a time. They bore fruit until frost. The harvest turned out to be simply huge, I didn’t even expect so many cucumbers! Fresh greens have a very pleasant taste, the peel and seeds are tender, and the flesh is dense. When salted and pickled, they remained firm and crispy. We eat with great pleasure.

Regarding agricultural technology, I can advise the following: plant no more than 2 bushes per square meter, water abundantly (daily in hot weather) with warm water, feed with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers. We use organic matter - diluted manure and urea. We get an environmentally friendly, tasty and healthy product!

Sergey, 34 years old, Rostov region

I spent a long time choosing a variety of cucumbers that could be grown at home on a glassed-in loggia. In the store they advised me “Everyone is the envy of F1” - it does not require pollination, ripens quickly, bears fruit consistently and for a long time even in low light. According to the description, everything suited me and, although the seeds are quite expensive, I only bought 5 pieces in a bag. Germination rate was 100%. However, 3 sprouted at once, and 2 hatched for almost a week. The sprouts were strong and green. I pulled the strings all the way to the ceiling, and the vines wove along them very beautifully. And after a month and a half, cucumbers began to appear, in large numbers. They picked the crops and ate them right away. A real tasty cucumber in pimples, crunchy and fragrant. Can't compare with store bought ones!

Yield of the variety “The envy of everyone”

Vegetable growers collect ripe fruits from this variety not only at the gherkin stage. But also at the pickle stage. Since a large number of cucumbers are formed on the vine at the same time, the cucumber yield is the envy of everyone - at least 10 kg of ripe fruits are collected from each bush

.

In order for new ovaries to form on the lashes faster, it is recommended to regularly pick ripening gherkins.

Sowing seeds

Since cucumber seedlings do not tolerate transplantation well, the cultivation of cucumber seedlings is carried out, as mentioned above, in plastic or paper cups and milk bags or in peat-humus pots. But cylinders made from newspaper without a bottom are best suited for these purposes. To do this, fold the newspaper in four and wrap it around the bottle, fastening the edges with paper clips. The cylinder is removed from the bottle and filled with soil mixture, moistening it with a not very concentrated solution of potassium permanganate, Ideal, and at worst, warm water.

The prepared seeds are laid out in these peculiar cups directly on the surface and sprinkled with a mixture of no more than one and a half centimeters or sown in furrows to a depth of one and a half to two centimeters. To prevent the seeds from being pulled deep, the soil is sprinkled with warm water rather than watered. Then the containers are tightly packed into boxes and placed in a warm greenhouse or on a south window and covered with plastic wrap. If the temperature is maintained at 25-28°C, seedlings will appear in three to four days. At lower temperatures this will happen in five to six days.

When the shoots appear, you need to remove the film and transfer the seedlings to a well-lit place, and reduce the temperature for two to three days to 17-19°C during the day and 13-14°C at night. This is necessary so that the seedlings do not stretch. After this, the temperature of the seedlings is raised:

  • for closed ground - on sunny days up to 21-22°C, in cloudy weather - up to 19°C and at night - up to 16-17°C;
  • for open ground, so that the seedlings do not become pampered, the temperature is lowered by 1-2°C.

Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to create such conditions on a windowsill. For example, if cloudy weather continues for a long time, the subcotyledon of cucumbers may become very elongated even before the formation of real leaves. If this happens, the stem is carefully laid in a ring along the wall of the pot on the soil up to the cotyledon, covered with loose soil mixture to 1.5-2 cm, and then watered. Within a week, this stem will take root and the plant will become strong and short.

During prolonged cloudy weather, even on the brightest windowsill, it is better to illuminate seedlings with fluorescent lamps for 10-12 hours a day. When the cotyledon leaves unfold, the seedlings should be watered with warm, settled water at a temperature of about 30°C.

If seedlings are grown in a box, then only seedlings with dark green cotyledons and good root lobes are taken for picking. Half an hour before picking, they should be watered generously. At optimal temperatures and good lighting, a real leaf appears within a week.

If the seedlings were grown in newspaper cylinders, then they are placed in a prepared hole that has the same depth as the cylinder, and then soil is added around the newspaper. The newspaper will quickly become soggy and the roots will grow through it.

Advantages of the variety and its disadvantages

The main advantages of the cucumber hybrid “The Envy of Everyone” include:

  1. early ripening of gherkins;
  2. fruiting is extended, lasting from the first ten days of June until frost;
  3. high productivity;
  4. even sizes of ripening gherkins;
  5. beautiful appearance and good taste;
  6. lack of bitterness in fruits at the genetic level;
  7. greens do not overripe and do not turn yellow, even if they remain hanging on the shoots after ripening;
  8. resistance to most diseases;
  9. the variety is adapted to negative weather conditions - the fruits continue to ripen in hot or cold weather, when grown in the shade;
  10. the harvested crop can be transported to any distance; under appropriate conditions, greens are stored for quite a long time;
  11. the versatility of the collected fruits.

The “Envy of Everyone” variety has virtually no disadvantages. It is only necessary to note the high cost of seeds and the need to purchase them annually.

Features of harvesting and storage

Cucumbers are ready for harvesting 45–50 days after planting. The main rule when harvesting cucumbers is regularity. Depending on the purpose, pick greens of different sizes. Thus, 8-10 cm specimens are good for canning, although some recipes require small fruits - about 4 cm in length. For fresh consumption, wait until the greens reach a length of 10–12 cm.

Focus on harvesting in the morning or evening. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut off the fruit, leaving the stem on the branch. Unfortunately, fresh cucumbers do not last long, so they are usually salted or pickled for the winter. By wrapping the fruits in a plastic bag, you can extend freshness for up to five days.

Important! Collecting fruits occasionally or once a week is unacceptable. Inspect the plants for green growth every other day. It is also strictly forbidden to pull, tear off or twist the stem.

Such a versatile and hardy hybrid form of cucumber, like the envy of everyone, is very useful to have in your summer cottage. Provided you are treated with care, cucumber bushes will repay you with a bountiful harvest of delicious fruits.

Planting cucumbers “To the envy of everyone” immediately in open ground and for seedlings

Cucumbers of this variety can be planted either by seedlings or without seedlings.

You can plant the seeds of the “Envy of Everyone” cucumbers directly into open ground beds in the garden in the second half of May, and in greenhouses this procedure is carried out a couple of weeks earlier.

When growing cucumber seedlings “To the Envy of Everyone,” sowing is done in the last ten days of March or in the first ten days of April. Moreover, when pre-growing seedlings at home, the first harvest of ripe gherkins can be obtained a couple of weeks earlier than when sowing seeds directly into the ground.

Seed preparation

Since this variety is a hybrid, seed material must be purchased annually from online stores or specialized outlets. Such seeds do not require pre-sowing preparation, as they have already undergone it before sale.

Photo of germination of cucumber seed material

The only thing that vegetable growers usually do is soak cucumber seed material in damp material to germinate it. After they hatch, the cucumber seeds are placed in prepared containers.

Planting seeds

The soil for planting cucumber seeds should be quite loose and nutritious. Usually, a ready-made nutrient substrate is purchased in stores; all the necessary fertilizers for growing cucumber seedlings have already been added to it.

Advice!

Since cucumbers have a very delicate root system, which does not tolerate unnecessary transplants, which often damage the roots, it is therefore recommended to immediately lay out the seed material in separate cups. In this case, there is no need to pick.

The seeds of the “Envy of Everyone” cucumbers are buried in moistened soil to a depth of 1 cm, the cups are covered with film and placed in a bright, dark place until shoots appear. Usually a couple of seeds are planted in each cup. After the shoots appear, the stronger plant is left, and the other one is pinched at soil level.

After the cucumber sprouts appear, the film must be removed and the cups transferred to the windowsill.

Further care of seedlings

The main thing when caring for cucumber seedlings is to follow the watering regime.

. The soil in containers should always be moist, but it is important that it does not stagnate. Water for irrigation is preliminarily settled; it must be heated, since cold water negatively affects the seedlings.

During the period of growing cucumber seedlings “Everyone is Envy”, they are fed a couple of times with organic matter (infusion of cow manure) or complex mineral fertilizer. The interval between fertilizing is 12-13 days.

Cucumber seedlings “Envy of Everyone” should be transplanted into open ground at the age of 28-30 days, while the plants should have at least 5-6 true leaves, and the height of the seedlings should be at least 20 cm.

Transplanting cucumber seedlings “To the envy of everyone”

The beds for cucumbers are prepared in advance - humus or compost is added before digging. Immediately before planting, place 1 tbsp in the planting holes. l. superphosphate and potassium salt.

The best predecessors for this hybrid are:

  • potato;
  • tomatoes;
  • cabbage;
  • beet;
  • oats;
  • sweet clover;
  • rye;
  • phacelia;
  • alfalfa;
  • mustard;
  • leek.

The distance between adjacent holes should be at least 0.15 m, and the row spacing should be about 0.6 m.

When growing cucumbers in peat cups, seedlings are planted with them

. And the seedlings are taken out of the plastic container along with a clod of earth - in this case, the roots of the cucumbers will not be damaged, and the plants will not get sick and will quickly acclimatize to the new place.

Plants are placed in holes, soil is added, compacted and watered. Supports are dug in next to the plants, to which the cucumber shoot is tied.

Planting cucumbers “The Envy of Everyone” directly in open ground or a greenhouse

The “Envy of Everyone” method of planting cucumbers directly in open ground, without growing seedlings, can be used from about the beginning of June

when the risk of return frosts has receded and the soil in the garden has warmed up sufficiently. Cucumbers are planted in holes several at a time. Cover the top with covering material.

Pest and disease control

Despite the fact that the hybrid is resistant to the main group of cucumber diseases, as well as various harmful insects, if the rules of care are grossly violated, it can be affected by Fusarium wilt, gray and white rot. Among the dangerous insects, it is worth highlighting melon aphids, spider mites and whiteflies. To prevent fusarium wilt, treat the soil with “Fitosporin” or “Trichodermin” (a week before planting).

If it was not possible to avoid infection with gray mold, you should stop irrigating the bed for several days. Remove the affected parts of the bushes, and sprinkle the cut areas with copper-chalk powder (mixing chalk and copper sulfate in equal parts) or charcoal. Take similar measures to combat white rot.

The following tincture will help get rid of melon aphids and spider mites: pour 30 g of red pepper and 200 g of tobacco dust into 10 liters of hot water (+60°C). Infuse the product throughout the day. Then add 2 tbsp. l. wood ash and liquid soap. Treat all bushes with this mixture, and repeat the procedure a week later. Summer residents deal with whiteflies using traps made of pieces of plywood coated with white paint and an adhesive substance.

Further care for cucumbers “The envy of everyone”

Caring for cucumbers of the All Envy variety is practically no different from growing other varieties of cucumbers.

Irrigation regime

The Envy variety cucumbers need to be watered regularly, but in moderation, avoiding stagnation of moisture in the soil. When watering, you need to make sure that drops of moisture do not fall on the foliage and stems.

Important!

Cucumbers are moisture-loving plants and should be properly watered at all stages of growth.

Water for irrigation is pre-filtered and left in the sun to warm up.

Loosening and weeding

After each watering, the soil around the cucumbers should be loosened to break up the dry crust that forms. At the same time, you need to remove all weeds along with the roots.

As the cucumber vines grow, it is necessary to form the plant

– it is best to leave one shoot on each bush. It is better to grow such cucumbers by tying them to trellises.

Stepchildren are removed as they appear.

Feeding cucumber bushes

Fertilizing the cucumber bushes “To the envy of everyone” should be applied after watering and loosening

. The first time the cucumbers are fed is a couple of weeks after transplanting the seedlings to a permanent place. Usually a solution of cow dung or bird droppings is used for this.

During the flowering period, it is fashionable to feed cucumbers with an infusion of wood ash - 1 glass of wood ash is dissolved in 10 liters of water and left for several days. This type of fertilizer is applied to the roots in hot weather. In cool, cloudy times, you can feed the plants “leaf by leaf” with this infusion.

The following fertilizing is carried out during the ripening period of cucumbers. The interval between them is at least 2 weeks. Wood ash and urea are used as fertilizers.

Features of care

When growing bunch hybrids, you should use the following agrotechnical techniques that have a positive effect on plant productivity and the quality of greens:

  • it is optimal to form plants strictly into a single stem, which improves lighting of the main stem and provides enhanced nutrition to the formed ovaries;
  • it is necessary to blind the lower three or four nodes, and then absolutely all shoots must be removed up to the trellis;
  • each node located on the main stem should have one leaf and form a bunch of greens;
  • after the first harvest of greens is formed on the main stem, the plant should be fed with nitrogen fertilizer;
  • in addition to nitrogen, high-quality complex fertilizers should be used to feed fruit-bearing plants;
  • timely feeding allows the formation of new cucumber ovaries in the leaf axils;
  • watering the cucumbers should be abundant and fairly regular, which will protect the ridges from drying out the soil and will have a beneficial effect on the quality of the greens;
  • For preventive spraying of plants that are sufficiently resistant to diseases and pests, natural and environmentally friendly products should be used - an infusion of nightshade tops or onions with garlic.

In order to properly form the plant and get a high yield of quality fruits, cucumber seedlings should be planted quite rarely. It is recommended to plant no more than a couple of plants for each square meter of bed area. It is also necessary to carry out regular harvesting. Compliance with the rules of agricultural technology contributes to a yield of 40 kg per square meter.
