A miniature home rose in a beautiful pot is the dream of most gardeners. The delicate smell of colorful buds and thin graceful shoots can conquer anyone. But not everyone will decide to grow this plant in an apartment - roses are famous for their capricious disposition. But nothing is impossible. Caring for them is no more difficult than caring for garden varieties. If you follow certain rules, they will delight you with lush flowering for many years. The tips from this article will tell you how to choose and replant fragrant bushes, how to properly care for them and how to propagate them.

For domestic roses to bloom, you need to create literally ideal conditions.

Potted roses purchased at a flower shop have the property of continuous flowering from May to October and a compact shape, up to 15-25 cm in height. The size of their flowers does not exceed 1.5-2 cm in diameter, they have a variety of colors, doubleness and fullness of the bud, and often the aroma.

The age of such plants is only 2-3.5 months from rooting. As a rule, they are sold planted 4 pieces in ten-centimeter pots or 3 pieces in six-centimeter pots. They haven’t really gotten stronger yet, but there’s such stress here – changing from the comfortable conditions of professional greenhouses to the far from ideal conditions of our apartments.

Description of home rose

Potted rose is an ornamental bush plant from the Rosaceae family. The main difference of this species is its compact size, which makes it convenient to grow it indoors. The height of the bush usually does not exceed 35-45 cm.

The history of growing roses indoors has a rich history. Even in tsarist times, it was popular to grow varieties of tea roses at home. Hybrids of its Chinese “relative” could often be found in Soviet times. The plant was distinguished by large, lush flowers.

Today there are a huge number of varieties of potted “beauties”. They are divided into the following subgroups - Miniature, Mini-Flora and Polyantha. Very popular varieties of polyanthus and border roses of small size with small flowers, patio roses, which became widespread at the end of the twentieth century. They came into apartments and houses from the miniature paved courtyards that gave them their name.

In addition, breeders have bred many varieties specifically for indoor cultivation. For example, roses from the Danish brand Cordana. The most popular representatives of the miniature “family” are the Palace and Patio-hit varieties. And, of course, we can’t help but mention the Party roses – the height of these babies does not exceed 14 cm.

Growing tips for beginners

Roses - planting and care in open ground for beginners

Before talking about roses, how to plant and care for them, you should give simple advice - immediately decide on the desired type. After all, today's market offers a huge selection. There are both bush and climbing varieties intended for growing in pots and open ground. We must not forget about the appearance, as well as the requirements for care (some are much stronger and more easily tolerate drought and insect attacks than others) and climate.

If you don’t make mistakes at this stage, then everything will be much easier - roses, care, cultivation and other work will turn into a pleasure.

How to choose a homemade rose in a store

The most suitable time to buy indoor roses is February or March. In the colder months, it will be easier for the flower to adapt to new conditions, so the chances of preserving the plant increase. It is necessary to carefully examine the rose for diseases in order to choose an absolutely healthy specimen. Such a flower has many fresh shoots with leaves, and the earthen ball in the pot is quite densely filled with roots. Avoid buying plants with drooping buds and flabby leaves. But there is nothing wrong with slightly dry shoots, but their bark should be fresh and smooth. Be sure to look at the bottom of the leaves to see if there are any pests there.

In order for indoor roses to bloom year after year and remain healthy and produce a thick crown of bright leaves, you need to carefully study the characteristics and habits of the plants.

Buy roses only from trusted chains that will not allow improper care of the plants. After all, if the soil in the pot dries out at least once during delivery or while in the store, then it will not be possible to revive such a flower. In this case, it will only act as a bouquet, which, however, will delight you a little longer than cut roses. It is very difficult to determine the presence of this problem visually.

Video on how to properly plant roses in open ground in spring

Of course, everyone understands that proper planting is almost the main action in any cultivation. And so it’s worth spending extra time on this point.

In this video you can see how to plant bushes correctly. Therefore, if there are any unclear questions in the previous chapter, you can look here and get an answer to the question. The author of the video kindly shares his experience in this matter. And it’s great that she not only talks about the nuances, but also shows how to do things.

This is such a very short video, but it contains so much useful information. You can say, “take it and use it.” I remember when I first bought my first bushes and how many questions I had about planting them.

And now everything has become simple, I opened the Internet and got answers to all my questions.

How to help a rose adapt?

As soon as a rose comes into your home, immediately free it from the plastic cup in which it is often sold. Clear the soil surface of fallen leaves and carefully inspect the plant for diseases and pests. Remember that the first 2-3 weeks after purchasing a rose will be the most difficult and stressful. Be prepared that the rose may lose all its buds and flowers, and even its leaves. But after the adaptation period, the rose begins to grow and blooms again after 1-1.5 months.

On a note! The first 2-3 weeks after purchasing a rose will be the most difficult and stressful.

When choosing roses, you should responsibly weigh your own capabilities to satisfy the individual preferences of the plant.

Start caring for your rose immediately after purchase. Even if outwardly you do not find any pests, immediately after you bring the rose home, wash it under a warm shower. This will be a good prevention against spider mites. It is even better to treat the rose prophylactically with the systemic pest control drug Aktara. You just need to remember that Aktara works against almost all pests, except for mites.

On a note! For spider mites, the rose should be sprayed with your choice of Fitoverm or Agrovertin.

If you bought a rose that is no longer blooming or is just about to bloom, you can immediately replant it. More precisely, do not replant, but carefully transfer, without destroying the lump, into a slightly larger pot, adding nutritious soil suitable for roses. It's best to buy ready-made. After transplantation, treat the roses several times with growth stimulants - Epin or Zircon.

Selection of seedlings

The choice of planting material should be approached with all responsibility if you want beautiful and bright roses to grow in your garden. First of all, you need to carefully examine the seedlings. Appearance is very important. Shoots and stems should be elastic, strong, have a rich green tint, and the bark should not have the slightest damage or defects. Live and healthy kidneys are a must. The root system should be inspected no less carefully: the roots must be intact, undamaged, without breaks, fractures or rot. Feel the soil in which the seedling is located: the planting material should not be in dry soil; the soil should be slightly moist. Living green leaves without spots are a sign of a high-quality and healthy seedling.

When choosing planting material, you need to pay attention to several more very important points:

  1. Label. In specialized stores and nurseries with quality products, seedlings have a tag with all the necessary information: species, variety, selection.
  2. ADR marking. This mark is not present on all varieties. The marking is only on those varieties that have increased resistance to cold, diseases and good immunity to pests. The best decorative qualities are also found in species marked ADR.
  3. Number of shoots. The highest quality material has three shoots, two of which grow from grafting. The price for such seedlings is higher. Cheap and, therefore, lower quality seedlings have only two shoots, and both grow from grafting.

You can purchase roses with a closed root system, with an open root system, or seedlings in a container. In any case, after purchasing it is better to start planting as soon as possible. If you cannot plant flowers after purchasing, you must properly store the seedlings. To do this, keep them in a container of water for 2-3 days, then wrap them in film and leave them in a cool room, such as a basement or cellar. But it is not recommended to delay planting.

Experienced gardeners advise planting roses in the fall, closer to winter. However, in the Moscow region and other regions of central Russia, roses must be planted in the spring. Otherwise, young roots will not be able to take root in the new area before frost. The probability of their death with the onset of frost is very high. Summer planting of roses is allowed, the result will be good. But it is worth noting that this option will cost several times more.

Caring for roses at home

Indoor roses are quite capricious and finicky. They are not easy to care for. Just like in natural conditions, they need wintering in a cold room. In summer, roses do not tolerate heat well, so during warm periods it is recommended to take them out into the open.

The first days of indoor roses in the house are the most important. In fact, they will determine how the plant will grow and survive in its new home.

There are many nuances that affect the condition and appearance of the plant. Proper care will certainly bear fruit, and the plant will certainly delight you with luxurious flowering in return. Let's look at the basic rules for keeping home roses.

Choosing a place to grow home roses

If you do not plan to send a flower for permanent or seasonal residence in the garden and are going to grow it at home, you need to choose the right place to place it.

Rose is a light-loving plant, but is afraid of direct sunlight. A south-eastern or southern window sill is suitable for its permanent location. They are quite well lit, which is very important for the fragrant “beauty”. However, in such places the plants may be too hot and they may not be able to withstand the scorching rays.

For indoor roses, you need to find a place in the house where the lighting will be diffused, but very bright.

It is especially difficult for roses to survive the midday hours, when the sun bakes with incredible force. At such times, you need to take care of high-quality shading of the rose, or at least move it from the windowsill to a surface that is not so flooded with light. For example, you can put the pot on a table adjacent to the windowsill or a shelf placed on the wall next to the window.

Choosing soil and pot for home roses

The soil must have good permeability and provide easy passage of air and moisture to the roots. These properties are found in ready-made soil mixtures available in specialized stores. You can mix the substrate yourself. There are several soil options for indoor roses. It may include:

  • 4 parts turf soil, 4 parts humus and 1 part sand;
  • 2 parts humus, 2 parts peat, 1 part sand;
  • 2 parts peat, 1 part garden soil, 0.5 parts sand, 2 parts humus.

After combining the components, it is necessary to disinfect the prepared mixture - pour boiling water over it.

Each rose should have its own individual pot, then it develops evenly and fully.

Usually a slightly larger pot is selected than the previous one. It may be larger in diameter by a couple of centimeters, and in height by 5-8 cm. If the rose was sold in a miniature glass, it is permissible to take a larger pot. The diameter of its bottom can be 10-12 cm, and its height - 15-20 cm, approximately the same as the height of a mini-shrub. If a newly purchased plant is immediately planted in an overly large pot, it will bloom worse. An adult rose can be planted in a pot with a height of 20-22 and a diameter of 24 cm.

The optimal pot for roses is ceramic with a protective layer of glaze. In such a container the soil will remain moist longer. If you are going to purchase a plastic pot, choose one with thick walls and bottom.

Air humidity and temperature

The well-being of the plant directly depends on the quality of the microclimate created in the room.

Excessive dry air can lead to the appearance of diseases and pests. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain humidity at 60-70%. Fill the containers with water and place them near the plant. The water will evaporate, which will provide the required level of humidity.

If necessary, indoor roses can be sprayed with warm, settled water daily or every other day. The frequency of spraying water depends on the degree of dryness of the air and the temperature in the room. If the room is cool, the procedure is not required. The influence of a warm shower has a very beneficial effect on the condition of plants.

In spring and summer, the favorable temperature for a rose bush will be 18-24 degrees. It is necessary to avoid overheating and drying of the roots. In winter - during the dormant period - plants must be kept at a temperature of 8-15 degrees. Under no circumstances should the pot be placed near radiators or heaters. The room should be well ventilated and at the same time protected from drafts. The plant cannot withstand sudden changes in temperature and may turn black if taken directly into the open air. However, minor daily fluctuations will only benefit him.

Any extremes of hypothermia or overheating of the soil are very dangerous for roses.

In summer, a rose can survive at 30 degrees, but only if it is regularly and abundantly watered and sprayed. Therefore, it is better to keep it in a cool room. You can install it in a room equipped with air conditioning, provided it is located at a significant distance from the cooling source.

Lighting

Indoor roses must be located in a part of the house that boasts constant and very bright, and at the same time diffused lighting. Only if there is a sufficient amount of sunlight will the flower bloom intensively and develop properly. Roses in pots are placed on windowsills. Moreover, it is preferable to use windows on the south side. At midday, it is necessary to remove the plant from areas flooded with scorching rays, or protect them from the sun with curtains or blinds. If it is not possible to shade the plants, you should move them to east or west windows. The rest of the time, additional lighting using special devices will not be superfluous.

Watering

To moisten the soil in a pot, you need to use soft, settled or rainwater, at room temperature or slightly warmer.

While roses are actively growing vegetative mass, producing buds and blooming, they always need abundant, frequent watering.

The intensity of watering may vary depending on the time of year. In spring and summer there is a stage of active growth and flowering. Therefore, during these periods the plant needs abundant soil moisture. It must be done several times a week. In the autumn-winter period, the intensity and frequency of watering should be reduced. At low temperatures, do not moisten the soil more than once a week. Between waterings, the soil should have time to dry 2-3 cm deep. Otherwise, acidification of the soil may occur. During wintering, the risk of soil acidification increases. This can lead to root rot. The water remaining in the pan must be drained 10 minutes after watering.

Planting roses in open ground

Beginning gardeners, before buying rose seedlings, should find out where it is best to plant this crop, then carry out the preparatory work. You also need to decide on the type and variety, based on the climatic conditions of the growing region and taste preferences.

This flower loves sunlight very much, so the place should be unshaded, preferably on the eastern side. This will allow the dew to dry out in the morning, thereby reducing the risk of fungal development. If there is not enough sun, the flower grows poorly and subsequently begins to suffer from various diseases.

The place should not be in a low place so that liquid does not accumulate. At higher elevations, the risk of groundwater availability is reduced. After all, the roots may begin to rot due to increased humidity, which will lead to the death of the flower. In addition, a high landing site will prevent cold air currents from accumulating. Avoid drafts.

The soil required for cultivation is loamy, it is light in structure, with good air permeability. The acidity is better to be neutral or weak. The fertility of the land can be increased by applying fertilizers and minerals.

You should not grow a rose in the same place for more than 7-8 years, because the plant will deplete the soil during this period. New bushes will not have enough nutrients to grow strong and healthy.

These beauties can be planted in both spring and autumn. Spring planting begins in mid-April; the soil needs to thaw from winter frosts. In the Urals and Siberia, this time comes a little later, in May.

The place where you plan to plant the seedling should be prepared in advance. Due to the fact that the root system of the plant is large and goes deep into the ground, a hole is dug at least 60-70 cm. Within half a month the soil will settle and our crop will not go underground.

If the soil is heavy, dilute it with sand. If, on the contrary, it is too light, then add a small amount of clay.

In autumn, the landing time is in September or October. The main thing is that frost does not occur. After all, the plant needs time to get comfortable and strengthen.

Fertilizing and feeding indoor roses

Fertilizing is an essential part of caring for indoor roses. During the spring and summer periods, fertilizing is carried out every two weeks. It is necessary to alternate organic substances - an infusion of cow manure, with mineral ones - special liquid fertilizers are suitable for flowering potted plants. Additionally, it is worth spraying the leaves with a weakly concentrated solution of special fertilizers. There is no need to apply fertilizer during the dormant stage.

It is often recommended to feed roses in the same way as any other beautifully flowering houseplant - during the period of active growth.

The first feeding is needed in April, after the plant enters the active growth phase. If the plants were replanted in the fall, the soil does not need to be fertilized for a month from the beginning of the growing season. Fresh potting mix contains sufficient nutrients. During the flowering stage, weekly intensive feeding is required. Roses take fertilizer best in warm, sunny weather. Therefore, on cool days you can refuse to feed.

Rules for transplanting home roses

Young potted roses are replanted every year. Mature roses are extremely sensitive to transplantation. They tolerate this procedure very painfully, so you should not disturb the plant again. Replanting is justified only if the roots have become crowded and a larger pot is required. The work is carried out using the transshipment method. This allows you not to disturb the earthen lump and not damage the fragile roots. After transplanting, the pot must be placed in a shaded place.

With regular fertilization in the summer, the soil does not have time to deplete, and it is worth replanting only if the soil has changed its physical properties.

The best period for replanting is late autumn. The new pot should be 3-4 cm larger in diameter and 5 cm in depth than the previous one. If the pot is reused, it must be washed. A new ceramic container should be soaked in water and left for several hours.

On a note! The rose should be watered before removing from the pot. This will allow you to pull out the entire earthen lump.

To carry out the transplant, it is necessary to prepare drainage, stock up on special soil for roses and complex fertilizer. First you need to form a drainage layer 3 cm high. Then we place the plant in the center and fill the edges with soil mixture that needs to be compacted. The rose should not be deeply buried - the root collar should be at soil level. To replant after purchase, you need to wait until flowering is complete.

When and how to plant roses

It is advisable to purchase seedlings in September - October. In spring, there is a risk of buying last year's planting material.

To protect new plantings from diseases, it is not recommended to plant them in the place of previous roses.

Technology for planting rose bushes:

  • Using a sharpened and treated garden tool, shorten the roots of the seedling and remove the dry parts. Cut the stem to a height of 16-20 cm.

Place the seedling in water before planting time

Dig a planting hole measuring 50x50 cm and 10 cm deeper than the size of the roots along with a ball of earth

Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole

  • Mix the excavated soil with compost at a ratio of 3:1. Add wood ash.
  • Pour one bucket of heteroauxin solution into each well. Dilute the drug according to the instructions.

Place the seedling in the hole and cover it with fertilized soil, holding it. The main thing is that all the roots are straightened

Make a ditch around the trunk for irrigation

  • Hill up the planted seedling by at least 15 cm and shade it for 10-12 days.

Make the next watering two days after planting.

The optimal distance between rose varieties is 1-2 m.

How to prune a home rose

Proper pruning of indoor roses is the main condition for its abundant, continuous flowering. All types of this plant, both potted varieties and garden specimens, tolerate this type of care well.

To obtain the best results, the following types of pruning are necessary:

  • annual - a regular procedure that provokes the formation of denser bushes and abundant flowering;
  • seasonal - removal of dying branches and inflorescences;
  • regulating - cutting off weak and protruding shoots.

In the process of pruning indoor roses, a necessary condition is compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards.

In order for indoor roses to bloom as long and abundantly as possible, you need to promptly take care of removing fading flowers.

The work will require sharp and clean tools - it is best to use pruners. The cutting edges of garden shears must be treated with a disinfectant compound. The resulting sections must be immediately treated with special protective agents.

Pruning must be done at an angle, taking into account the location of the buds. The cutting is done just above the embryonic shoot. It is necessary to leave a small area - approximately 5 mm - to ensure the safety of the kidney. The damaged part of the shoot is cut down to healthy tissue. If there are no buds on a branch, it is cut off at the base.

Sanitary pruning of indoor roses should be done in the fall. Remove all weak and inward-looking shoots completely. Cut all the rest by one third, keeping 5-6 buds on the branch. This will ensure early and lush flowering in the spring.

The main formation and pruning of shoots is carried out only after flowering has completed.

Formative pruning is carried out in late February - early March. It is necessary to stimulate the growth of strong shoots and active flowering. At this time, the resting phase ends and you need to be in time before active growth begins, at the moment when the buds have just begun to swell.

On a note! The duration of daylight at the time of pruning should be more than 10 hours. This is necessary for the proper development of shoots.

Caring for a rose during flowering

The first flowers appear on the bushes at the end of March or April. Experienced flower growers know how to achieve three blooms in one season. The formation of new buds is stimulated by cutting off flowers along with the peduncle as soon as they begin to fade. This procedure allows you to get new flowers, although autumn blooms are not as abundant as spring ones.

If the rose produces corymbs and clusters of inflorescences, then the individual flowers are cut off along with the peduncle.

There is nothing impossible in stimulating flowering in winter. Flowering plants in stores confirm this. The main condition for growing in winter is the presence of bright artificial lighting.

Dormant period for indoor roses

All types of indoor roses need a period of rest. In its absence, the plant weakens and its growth slows down. This can lead to a lack of flowering and even death of the plant.

Roses are one of the plants that will not bloom without a cool dormant phase.

After flowering stops, when the leaves begin to turn yellow, it is necessary to gradually reduce the room temperature to 8-15 degrees. Avoid excessive soil hypothermia. The soil should be slightly warmer than the ambient temperature. You can preserve heat by placing the pot in a container with sawdust. During this period, you should water the rose infrequently and little by little. Proper care guarantees the appearance of fresh buds with the onset of spring.

Sheltering roses for the winter

Caring for roses also includes covering them for the winter. Since this is a heat-loving plant, cold temperatures down to -10 degrees can cause the death of the plant. Some advise cutting off unripe shoots for the winter, and some cut off in the spring only those that did not survive the winter and have turned black.

To cover the roses, you can cover them with soil, peat or compost on top. All this can be diluted with pine sawdust. Covering material is prepared in advance and at the first cold snap the bushes are covered with it. The layer of covering material should be approximately 35-40 cm. If the area with rose bushes is located at the latitude of Moscow, then cover it with lutrasil or spruce branches on top.

Everything that is prepared for insulating roses must be dry, otherwise when it gets cold it will be covered with ice and it will be impossible to cover the roses for the winter.

The method of covering with lutrasil cannot be used on soils with close groundwater or swampy soil, because a greenhouse effect will occur and the roses will freeze out in winter. In the spring, when the weather is above zero, the covering material is carefully removed, and the remaining soil or peat is washed off with a bucket of water.

Methods for propagating indoor roses

Indoor roses are propagated by cuttings. For this purpose, stems of purchased roses from the store or adult bushes during the growing season are suitable. Cuttings can be done in a greenhouse, at home, and even in open ground. The best time for this process is spring and summer. However, even in winter, provided that additional lighting is used, it is quite possible to germinate a cutting of a plant you like.

To obtain shoots, parts of the stem with several buds are suitable - 2-4 buds are enough. Cuttings should be taken from the middle, mature part of the stem with young bark and green healthy buds. A branch is cut from below right below the lower bud, and a couple of cm are removed from the upper bud.

It is better to cut cuttings from May to August, and choose a thickness from 2.5 to 3.5 mm with 2-3 internodes.

The roots emerge from the lower bud placed in a moist environment. The most common methods of root formation are in water and in substrate.

Recently, gardeners are increasingly resorting to cuttings in potato tubers. The plant feeds on moisture from the root crop and feels very comfortable as long as it does not have large roots. We make a hole in the potato, place a cutting in it so that the two lower buds are inside, and plant it in the ground - open ground or a pot.

Preparing rose cuttings

To do this, you will need already cut roses, which you can buy in the store.

For the first stage of work, you should arm yourself with a sharp knife-scissors. This will prevent unnecessary trauma to the cut stems.

Before using the instrument, it must be disinfected to prevent contamination of planting samples.

It is also necessary to trim off unopened buds, and then cut the stems into cuttings 15 to 30 cm long .

The technique of the procedure is as follows: an oblique incision is made under the lowest kidney with a recess of 1 cm, then a straight incision is made above the kidney located above it.

As a result, you need to get stem segments, each of which contains from 2 to 3 future shoots.

At the level of the resulting planting material, the lower leaves are removed and the upper leaves are shortened by 1/3.

This procedure will help retain moisture and prevent drying out of the shoots.

It is not recommended to break all the leaves as this may affect the circulation of the juice.

The last thing to do is to get rid of the thorns on the stem.

Propagation of domestic roses by cuttings in water

Most often cuttings occur in water. We place the branch in the container so that the lower buds are in the water and make sure that the liquid level does not decrease. After a few weeks, small roots will form and the plant can be planted in the ground.

The disadvantage of this method is that the cuttings may rot in water. In addition, rose roots are very delicate and often suffer during replanting.

Propagation of domestic roses by cuttings in substrate

If you root the cuttings directly in the soil, the described problems can be avoided. Rooted plants are transplanted into a flowerbed or pot along with a lump of soil. This avoids damage. Suitable planting materials include peat, sphagnum moss, and coconut substrate. Cuttings can be rooted both in separate pots and in a common box.

The drug heteroauxin stimulates root formation and gives better results when propagating roses from cuttings.

Before planting, it is necessary to dip the prepared cuttings in a special product that provokes rapid growth of root formation. Plant the branch on a slope, deepening a couple of lower buds. It is necessary to water the plant and cover it. For planting, you can take a glass or plastic jar, or just a plastic bag. The appearance of the first leaves indicates the formation of roots and signals that it is time to plant the plant.

How to grow a rose from cuttings using different methods

Today, flower growers have tried many methods of rooting cuttings. We have selected the most effective ones.

Rooting in water

Some advise taking boiled water. However, such water is considered “dead” for the plant, and therefore useless. Therefore, for an antiseptic effect, it is better to use the old method - a piece of charcoal thrown into water. Such water will not bloom.

Rooting stimulants are added to a container of water before the cutting is lowered into it.

Cover the top of the container with either polyethylene or foil, leaving a hole for the cutting.

ATTENTION!

The vessel with water must not be placed in direct sunlight!

The water must be changed and topped up periodically.

The cuttings with roots are replanted after three weeks. The length of young roots is 5 cm. The most important thing is that planting must be done extremely carefully, since the roots that appear in the water are not adapted to the soil conditions.

Rooting in pots

You can grow a rose from a bouquet, just like from an adult bush, by rooting a cutting in a pot. In this case, the survival rate approaches 100%; the bush grown in this way blooms earlier.

A correctly prepared cutting is lowered with an oblique cut into the substrate diagonally and the soil is compacted around it. Caring for the cuttings consists of maintaining the level of humidity, watering and fertilizing. It is better to put a cap made of a plastic bag on the cutting. Once a day, the cap is raised for 10 minutes for ventilation. Watering is moderate, as the substrate dries. Fertilizing is done carefully, at the rate of 10 drops of fertilizer per 1 liter of water, once every two weeks. The soil around the cuttings should not be loosened. When leaves appear, the cap can be gradually removed.

Method for rooting roses in a pot

Germination in a potato tuber

How else can you plant a rose from a bouquet? We answer: using potatoes. Medium or large healthy tubers are pierced to the center and all eyes are removed. The cuttings are lowered into the recess of the tuber and planted in the ground outside or in a pot at home. Potatoes protect the emerging roots from drying out, and at the same time nourish the future rosette.

Growing in a bag

The cuttings are placed in a bag strewn with disinfected damp soil or moss. In order for humidity to be established in it, it needs to be inflated and put in a dark place. Roots will appear in 4 weeks. Then the plant is ready for planting.

The second method of growing in a bag is called "burrito". The cuttings are soaked in water for a day, and then placed on damp newspaper, which is then wrapped tightly and placed in a bag. The package is placed in a place with a constant temperature of 18-20 degrees.

Once a week, the bag of cuttings is checked to remove blackened material and moisten the soil, moss or newspaper.

Diseases and pests of indoor roses

Indoor roses are sensitive to powdery mildew. It leaves a white coating on the foliage and stems. To eliminate the problem, remove the affected elements of the plant and treat it with a fungicide. Fundazol, Topaz, Fitosporin are suitable.

Fungal spot.

Powdery mildew.

Aphids or spider mites can harm the health of roses. When attacked by red spider mites, cobwebs appear on the shoots and the youngest leaves dry out. If a small number of insects are detected, you can get by by washing the leaves with soapy water. If the plant is massively damaged by pests, you will have to resort to insecticides - Actellik, Fitoverm, Nurrell-D. You should not try to remove spider mites using folk remedies - this will lead to the death of the plant.

What other problems can lead to diseases of indoor roses?

  • lack of nitrogen in the soil - the leaves become pale, the veins turn yellow first;
  • in case of insufficient lighting, irregular or lack of timely pruning, drafts, infrequent watering - there is no flowering;
  • if the temperature is too high, irregular watering and excess lighting - the leaves turn yellow and fall off;
  • with excessive watering, the shoots rot.

Preparation and care in winter

After heating appears in our apartments in mid-October, and daylight hours become noticeably shorter, our rose clearly begins to mope. Flowers bloom underdeveloped, their number is sharply reduced, and the bush begins to fall. The best thing we can do during this period is to give the rose a rest. To do this, in November, watering is slowly reduced to 1-2 times a week, the bush is trimmed and sent to a cool room with a temperature of 5-8°C until February. Such a place could be a loggia, a basement, a cool pantry or a glazed balcony.

It is best to reduce watering in winter and place the rose in a bright and cool place.

In February, the rose is moved to a permanent place, and the rose usually shows its readiness for this with swollen buds. At first, water it very carefully, accustoming it to constantly moist soil.

On a note! In summer, it is optimal to take the rose out into the fresh air, it’s good if you have a balcony. It’s even better to take it to the garden, to the country house and leave it there for the entire summer period. For roses, fresh air will be the ideal condition for good development and flowering.

Rosa, of course, is a girl with a rather capricious temperament - she suffers after changing houses, can get sick out of the blue, and will not forgive us for dry soil due to inattention. And he will show his cool disposition by throwing off every single bud and flower. But it sleeps for 3 months, and blooms 7 months a year. Let me tell you straight - this is a flower for selfless, tireless lovers of beauty, who begin their day with a raid on all the windows with flowers and end it with the meditative pleasure of admiring their plant treasures.

It is quite possible to grow miniature roses at home, the main thing is to follow the rules of caring for them.

How to prepare a cutting

After you have prepared the required number of cuttings, they need to be soaked in a solution of a root formation stimulator. The soaking period is one day.

The solution can be prepared with different drugs. This may be a purchased product. For example, Kornevin, Energen, Heteroauxin or any other. The solution must be prepared according to the instructions indicated on the package.

You can also prepare a stimulant from improvised means. A solution based on aloe juice works well. Proportions are 1 to 9. Slightly less effective, but also suitable for stimulating root formation, is honey water (a tablespoon of honey per jar of water).

ON A NOTE. Soaking should be done in settled warm water. If possible, use water from natural sources (river, rain, melt).
