Chameleon grapes: what you need to know about it, description of the variety, reviews

History of the variety's creation

The hybrid form “Chameleon” was produced by a national breeder from Ukraine, Nikolai Pavlovich Vishnevetsky .

Formula: (“Atlan Zaporozhye” x “Gala” x “Arcadia” x “Kishmish Radiant”)

Since 2011, it began to spread and received excellent reviews from many winegrowers not only in Ukraine and Russia, but also in other CIS countries.

The hybrid received the name “Chameleon” due to its ability to color the berries in different shades.

Features of agricultural technology

The Chameleon grape variety does not require special care. It is preferable to form it on a high trunk so that the supply of vines is larger. Pruning is carried out to 10 eyes: this allows you to increase productivity.

Landing

Any soil is suitable for planting Chamelenon. He is not picky about the composition of the soil. The process of planting seedlings begins in late March.

After the spring planting of seedlings, the root system is able to grow and strengthen before the winter period. When planting grapes in the soil in the fall, more careful measures should be taken to protect them from frost and drafts.

When choosing a seedling, you need to look at the length of the rhizome. It should be at least 20-25 cm. For better growth, one shoot is left on the vine, the rest are cut off.

They are planted in a hole up to 70 cm deep, where a nutritious soil mixture is first poured in a small layer. A seedling is placed on top, which is buried in soil. The soil around is compacted and watered abundantly with water at room temperature. The presence of a sufficient amount of moisture accelerates the survival of the seedling.

For further development of the bushes, a distance of up to 1 m is maintained between them when planting. The first fruiting occurs after 3-4 years.

Care

Watering is carried out 1-2 times a month at the rate of 3 buckets per 1 square meter. m.

Mulching after watering conserves water in the soil and maintains the desired level of moisture until the next watering. It protects the vine from weeds. For mulching, use any suitable and available material: mowed and dried grass, leftover burlap, etc.

For a good harvest, you need not only to water, but also to fertilize the plants. For this purpose, mineral, phosphorus and potassium additives are used. If necessary, add zinc and iron-containing fertilizers. Green fertilizers, compost, peat, manure, etc. make good organic additions. It is applied twice a year.

Autumn preparation for cold weather includes well-watering the soil and protecting plants from the upcoming winter frosts. To do this, the bushes are attached to the ground and tied together. They are covered on top with prepared material: film, burlap, tarpaulin, etc. and sprinkled with earth for insulation.

Bush characteristics:

The hybrid bush “Chameleon” grows quickly. It has a huge growth reserve of vines that can stretch 6-7 meters. The bush on shoots can withstand heavy crop loads. Each plant usually has 2-3 brushes quietly ripening. Often, the “Chameleon” bush manages to produce two crops: the main load and on the stepsons.

The plant of this variety has medium dark leaves. The leaf shape is often three-pointed, less often five-pointed, the edges are smoothed. In normal years, the leaf remains clean, the grapes are not affected by diseases. However, the bush needs to thin out the shoots and break off the shoots.

Spring pruning is done with either 4-6 or 8-10 eyes. A medium cut shape is more preferable. An adult bush is usually loaded with 30-40 buds. The variety does not suffer from overload, only the ripening time of the berries and vines is delayed.

Landing requirements

When planting grapes, you must follow the rules.

The Chameleon grape variety is unpretentious, so it can be grown in almost any soil. Planting can be done both in spring and autumn. However, planting seedlings in spring gives better survival rate.

  • The distance between seedlings must be at least 3 meters . For a seedling to grow quickly, its roots must be large (about 20 centimeters in length and at least 2 centimeters thick).
  • At the same time, the color of the shoot is bright green, with the presence of 4 eyes.
  • If a shoot has 2 or more seedlings, it is necessary to leave one of the strongest ones , otherwise the growth of the bush will be slowed down.

On the eve of planting, you need to trim the roots slightly, and remove the lower roots completely (leave the side ones). To make the root system take root faster, you can use growth enhancers (Kornevin, Heteroauxin).

Landing algorithm

For the seedling, it is better to choose the southern and sunny side of the site.

To properly plant grapes, you need to dig a hole measuring 0.8x0.8x0.8 meters.

  1. The soil that remains after digging needs to be divided into less and more fertile: the upper one is more fertile, the lower one is less fertile and has fewer nutrients.
  2. You need to add organic fertilizers to richer soil and fill the hole with this mixture to a depth of 40 centimeters.
  3. Next, you need to place the seedling on this soil and sprinkle it with soil from the lower layer (less fertile). It is not recommended to completely cover the seedling with soil. It is optimal to leave about 7–8 centimeters of free space in which you can water the plant.
  4. It is necessary to water the seedling immediately after planting, with a volume of 1-2 buckets of water.
  5. After this, you need to cover the soil with mulch to improve moisture retention.

Characteristics of berries:

The weight of the grapes is about 10 grams, the shape is spherical, less often olive-shaped. Size approximately 20-30 millimeters. The taste is amazing, delicate Muscat, very sweet grapes. The balance of sugars to acids has a significant advantage in the direction of sugars: sugars - 22-24%, acids - 5-6 g/l.

The color of the berries can be different on one bunch: from greenish-white, yellow, amber-pink, to bright red. The color of the berries does not affect the taste; even the greenest-looking berries have a delicate nutmeg and very sweet taste. The grapes that are best colored are those that are on the sunny side and not shaded by leaves.

Beneficial features

The fruits are large and have a marketable appearance.

The calorie content of grapes is 75 calories per 100 grams, water is no more than 60%, and simple carbohydrates (sucrose, glucose, fructose) account for 20%.

  • Chameleon grapes contain the following vitamins: A, C, E, B9, K, H, PP . Berries are also rich in microelements and macroelements, such as calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, boron, aluminum.
  • Many nutritionists have noticed that if you eat at least 2 kilograms of grapes every day, you can get rid of hemorrhoids, constipation, anemia, obesity and dermatosis .
  • But grape fruits can also normalize blood pressure , so it should be consumed in sufficient quantities by hypertensive and hypotensive patients.
  • Using the grape diet, you can cleanse your kidneys of sand and stones . For nephritis, such fruits are extremely useful, since grapes can reduce the level of uric acid.

For chronic fatigue and frequent stress, you need to eat a small portion of grapes daily, as they can have a calming effect on the body . It is worth noting that the berries are not able to overload the digestive system and are quite easy to digest.

Diseases and protection against them

Chameleon is resistant to many grape diseases, but is susceptible to the harmful effects of mildew.

Mildew can affect not only grape leaves, but also berries and shoots. Which makes it a terrible disease that can destroy more than one bush. However, timely use of protective agents will protect your grapes from it.

An excellent measure to protect the plant is to treat it with fungicidal preparations. It is worth spraying plants before and after flowering - from the shoots reaching 20 cm in length to the period when the berries grow to the size of a pea.

Among the drugs themselves, we can highlight: Ridomil, Tsinos, Tiram, Folpet and Captan.

The Chameleon grape variety is considered an excellent option for beginning winegrowers or people who cannot devote too much time to their garden.

Requiring a minimum of cost and effort, it can give you a large harvest with excellent taste and external properties. Thanks to all this, it is suitable both for personal use and for growing for sale.

Among the unpretentious varieties, it is worth paying attention to Muscat Delight, Giovanni and Black Raven.
