Oak trees planting and care in open ground photo

Autumn is the time to transplant perennial flowers

With the beginning of autumn, you can start an inspection of the flower beds. Some of the perennial flowers became boring, others too large, and for others it became clear they would look much at the other end of the site . Well, let's grab the pruning shears and shovel!
Flower grower Anna Meshcheryakova from the Novaya Nadezhda farm, Gorodishchensky district, is already preparing to transplant her favorite lilies, daylilies and irises. These flowers decorate the area in spring and early summer.

“At the beginning of September, you can start replanting all the flowers that have already “gone out” and lost their decorative value,” says Anna Fedorovna. – If you planted tulips in the spring, now they can also be divided and replanted. Before this, the top part of the plants must be trimmed.

“First, large-bulbous plants (lilies, daylilies, irises) are planted, then small-bulbous plants (crocuses, lilies of the valley, muscari, freesia, snowdrops),” clarifies agronomist Tatyana Orlova . – The larger the planting material, the deeper it is buried in the ground.

– When choosing a place for planting, keep in mind that all flowers love the sun. It is advisable that the flower be exposed to sunlight for at least half a day, advises Anna Meshcheryakova. – In the shade they will grow slowly, the inflorescences will become small and stunted. Therefore, they should be located away from bushes. Last year I planted daylilies not far from the viburnum, it grew and shaded the flowers. I will now replant.

Anna Meshcheryakova advises moistening the soil before planting, but regular watering in winter is not necessary. There is also no need to add fertilizers - the plant only needs to take root for the next season, and not increase green mass. With the beginning of spring, it makes sense to fertilize with mineral fertilizers, but according to Tatyana Orlova, flowers do not need organic matter at all. This is fraught with diseases, in particular root rot.

All bulbous flowers are frost-resistant. However, winters in our region can be harsh, so it is advisable to cover the flower beds with sawdust or add more soil. Anna Meshcheryakova uses a plant blanket - cutting off the very last flowers (September, October flowers), she covers the flowerbed with them. In such conditions, the “new residents” will definitely not freeze.

Before planting perennials, Anna Fedorovna recommends carefully thinking through the neighborhood so that the flowerbed looks elegant throughout the season. The first row can be occupied, for example, by irises, and the second row by oaks (chrysanthemums) or September flowers. Some will fade and others will begin to play.

It is recommended to replant flowers every five years.

What is the difference between lilies and daylilies?

Despite their similar names and external similarities, these plants are from different families (lilies are from the Liliaceae family, daylilies are from the Xanthorrheaceae family), although they are of the same class of monocots. If you look closely, the plants are still different. For example, a daylily grows as a bush, and a lily shoots out arrows. They also bloom differently. The first one throws out several long peduncles up to a meter high; up to a dozen inflorescences appear at the top of each. Lilies have buds at the top of their trunks—some varieties can have up to fifty of them!

If you dig deeper, you can find another significant difference: the root system of lilies is bulbous, while that of daylilies is tuberous, and they reproduce by dividing the rhizome.

Description of the species

Korean chrysanthemums are perennial flowering plants that can reach a height of 120 centimeters, depending on their variety. The stems of oak trees are erect, thin, and pubescent on top. In appearance, the leaves on the stems resemble oak leaves, hence the name of these flowers. Flower buds are reed-shaped and tubular, located in inflorescence baskets. During the flowering period, up to 400 inflorescences can simultaneously open on one full-size bush.

These are unpretentious flowers that easily take root in any type of soil, and they grow especially well and are decorative in loose, well-drained soil.

Chrysanthemums are light-loving plants, therefore, when choosing a site for a flower garden, you should remember that in the sun the oak trees will be distinguished by their maximum decorativeness. At the same time, every gardener and novice summer resident will be able to care for oak trees.

Gardeners today know several hundred varieties of chrysanthemums, which are perfectly zoned for the Russian climate, are unpretentious in care and are distinguished by their excellent decorative properties. Oak flowers, the care and propagation of which are not difficult, make it easy to create a full-fledged flower bed on your garden plot.

Common varieties include:

  • Margarita is distinguished by snow-white flowers, and the height of the bush can reach 70 centimeters. Flowering of this variety begins at the end of August and lasts until the cold weather.
  • Valentina Tereshkova. An easy-to-care variety of oak trees, which is distinguished by its crimson inflorescences and compact shrub size. Flowering begins in September and lasts 2-3 months.
  • Spring Sunset is a dwarf variety whose shrub height usually does not exceed 50 centimeters. The peculiarity of this variety is the characteristic crimson red color of the inflorescences and the flowering duration, which is 3-4 months. Low-growing spherical oak flowers of this variety will perfectly decorate a personal plot.
  • Modesty. A powerful shrub can reach a size of a meter in width and a height of 150 centimeters. The flowers are a delicate pink shade and are 6 centimeters in diameter. Flowering begins at the end of August and continues until the cold weather.
  • Viva botany. The chrysanthemum of this variety blooms for 65 days. Oak flowers are semi-double, pronounced yellow in color. The height of this variety of shrubs does not exceed 55 centimeters, which allows this variety to be used to create original small flower beds.

By purchasing high-quality planting material in specialized stores, you can be completely confident in the quality of the flowers planted in the flowerbed.

The gardener needs to remember that most varieties of oak trees are hybrids, so it will be impossible to obtain seeds from them on your own. When choosing one variety or another, it is necessary to take into account its size, flowering period, as well as agricultural cultivation techniques.

Indoor chrysanthemum

There is hardly a person who has not heard of chrysanthemum. She is quite popular. Like some representatives of garden flowers, such as roses, chrysanthemums can be grown both in the garden and at home, as a houseplant. In the form of a potted flower, it has many varieties. Chrysanthemum is fully adapted to life at home. This is exactly what I would like to talk about.

When can you replant oak flowers - Cottage, garden, vegetable garden, indoor plants

Chrysanthemums are a special, bewitching world of flowers. They are so diverse that when choosing them, your eyes just run wild. After all, each of them is beautiful and incomparable in its own way.

These are so gentle and strict at the same time; fragile, at first glance, and assertively-solid, self-confident flowers. It’s not for nothing that they are called “oak trees.” China is considered the birthplace of these flowers.

Therefore, these flowers have another name - Chinese chrysanthemum.

Caring for chrysanthemums

As you know, there are a lot of varieties of chrysanthemums. There are basically two types of chrysanthemums. These are large-flowered. They look very beautiful in bouquets. These flowers love warmth. And therefore they grow either in greenhouses, greenhouses or in the south. Such chrysanthemums are called Indian. The second type of chrysanthemums are Korean. They are grown both in garden plots and in pots as indoor plants.

Their color range is very diverse. These flowers grow in the form of a bush. This is a perennial plant.

And another advantage for these flowers is that they tolerate cold days well and are quite frost-resistant. Although it is still better to protect them from the cold for the winter.

These plants also attract the attention of flower growers because they are undemanding and quite easy to care for.

If it is decided that the oak chrysanthemum will grow on a plot of land without shelter, then it is necessary to ensure that the plant has:

  • enough sunlight
  • windless side.
  • The soil should be fairly light. Organic fertilizers and sand can lighten the soil if it turns out to be heavy. In airy and loose soil that absorbs water well, the flower will be able to take root faster and easier.
  • It is better to use cow humus to feed oak trees.
  • Two weeks after planting the flowers, the first fertilizing is done.
  • If you want to extend the flowering time of chrysanthemums, you can use phosphorus fertilizers. By the way, this will make the leaves of the plant look greener, stronger and thicker.
  • Potassium-phosphorus fertilizers should be fed to flowers during the formation of buds and during the entire flowering of oak trees.
  • It is better to do foliar feeding with nitrogen fertilizers.
  • When watering, water should not get on the leaves of the flowers.
  • For beauty, it is necessary to trim the bushes on time.

Insects can also cause a lot of trouble for these beautiful flowers. To protect such beauty, it is necessary to get rid of aphids. This must be done before the buds form. Meadow bugs and spider mites also spoil oak flowers. Pesticides are suitable for controlling these pests.

In order for the flowers to be able to spend the winter calmly and not freeze, you need to take care of them before the onset of severe frosts. To do this, the garden perennial chrysanthemum must be pruned.

And the ground around the bush needs to be hilled up and treated with humic substances. With the onset of frost, the bush is covered with spruce or pine branches. It helps protect the bush from wind and frost. Prevents precipitation.

Helps maintain a certain temperature regime. And rodents will not be able to get to the flowers.

If chrysanthemums, such as multiflora growing in a flower bed, are purchased in early autumn, then they should not be replanted. Just a cool room is very suitable for them. Well, it is necessary that the soil in the flower beds be constantly moist.

Reproduction and cultivation of oak trees

The best time to plant or replant flowers is after the last frost and cold weather have passed. The last month of spring, May, is ideal for this event. Even the beginning of June will do. These flowers need to be planted in higher areas.

These flowers can best be propagated using cuttings or in separate parts of the bush, separated from the main bush.

It is necessary to decide on the location and location of the plants. Then prepare the soil.

And if you have to plant previously grown cuttings, then it is preferable to transfer the cuttings into the ground together with a lump of earth, so as not to damage the root system of the plant.

If the plants in flower beds were kept in a cool place, then they will need to stand in the open air for a week so that they can warm up. Plant small chrysanthemum bushes at a distance of twenty centimeters.

Bush chrysanthemums grow very quickly. Over the course of a season, they grow from a planting cutting to a full-fledged bush. To give the bush a certain shape, you need to carry out shaping. It is necessary to pinch the tops in early June.

It is worth replanting large chrysanthemum bushes if they have been growing in the same place for three years. During the first year, after transplanting the bush to a new place, the soil around the bush needs to be loosened constantly throughout the year.

This is necessary for flowers, since young shoots will appear faster and the bush itself will form.

It is also possible to replant chrysanthemums in the autumn season, in areas where winters are not cold and there are no severe frosts. In such cases, it is necessary to transplant the cuttings before the first frost. To do this, you need to dig up the plant and cut off the old branches. Then separate the young ones.

Next, you need to prepare the soil by fertilizing it first. There should be no stagnant water in the holes. Then plant young cuttings. And don't forget to water. Over time, we cover the flowers, protecting them from the winter cold. To do this, you can use sawdust, peat, spruce branches, and dry leaves.

Large chrysanthemum bushes can also be transplanted into a suitable sized flower pot or bucket, but do not damage the plant and root system. Leave the plant in a cool place. As soon as the flowers begin to fade, it will be necessary to trim the bush almost to the ground, leaving about fifteen centimeters.

Leave the plant in this state until spring.

You can also try growing chrysanthemums using seeds. Based on the photo, you can choose exactly those chrysanthemum seeds that you liked best and want to grow at home.

To sow chrysanthemum seeds, you need to prepare special boxes with the necessary soil.

In February, in its last ten days, or in March, you need to sow flower seeds in special boxes, which must be covered with glass on top.

This way the greenhouse effect is recreated. After seven days, sprouts appear. As soon as two leaves appear on the plant, the flowers must be immediately transplanted into pots.

Two months is enough for the plant to grow to a height of up to twenty centimeters. Oak trees bloom five months from the moment they are planted. In May, seedlings are already planted in open ground.

To plant a young flower in the ground, you need to choose the right weather.

It could be a cloudy day, or even better, a rainy day. To plant flowers you need to make a trench. It's better than planting in holes.

The distance between seedlings can be from twenty to thirty-five centimeters, depending on the type of flowers. After planting and watering the plant, pinching is carried out, that is, the sprouting point of the flower is removed.

You can cover the seedlings and keep them covered until you are sure that the flowers have set.

Tips for flower growers

These flowers are unique and amazing. Today, more than six hundred and fifty species of these flowers are known. These are varieties of pompom, feathery, bristly, spherical, anemone-shaped, low-growing, semi-double and double oaks. They are annual and perennial. Each of the varieties is interesting in its own way. And caring for such flowers requires knowledge, diligence, desire and great love for flowers.

It happens that the chrysanthemum does not bloom. And the question immediately arises: why? So what should I do? If by autumn your favorite chrysanthemum bush has not bloomed, it means mistakes were made while caring for it. Typical mistakes include:

  • lighting. Perhaps the sun's rays illuminated the plant for less than seven hours a day. And this light was too little for the flower. Or perhaps there was too much lighting. When the plant was exposed to light for more than ten hours. The plant is tired of this.
  • Pinching done at the wrong time can also be one of the reasons why chrysanthemums do not bloom.
  • Lack of fertilizers. It is necessary to feed the plant with phosphorus or potassium. The plant can be saved from the invasion of leaf rollers, slugs, and caterpillars with ash, mustard, herbal infusion, and chemicals.
  • These same drugs can get rid of powdery mildew, leaf spot, rust, and chlorosis.
  • A very large amount of moisture leads to fungal diseases in plants.
  • Viral plant diseases lead to the fact that chrysanthemums suddenly begin to fade. In this case, it is necessary to immediately dig up the diseased bush and burn it.
  • If chrysanthemums were grown in a greenhouse, then they simply need to be dug up for the winter.
  • For the winter, you don’t have to hide chrysanthemums indoors, which are adapted to the winter cold.

Interestingly, chrysanthemums, speaking in the language of flowers, are considered a reflection of longevity. And if you were given these amazing flowers, then know that they wished you long life from the bottom of their hearts. And this is worth a lot.

Buying chrysanthemums

Homemade chrysanthemum is quite small in size. This is due to the fact that it is grown artificially in greenhouses, where its growth is stopped with the help of special preparations to give it a decorative appearance.

Some people encountered the fact that when they bought a cutting and tried to grow a homemade chrysanthemum, they received a flower of overall dimensions comparable to a garden one. This is precisely due to ignorance of how to grow such an ornamental plant. Let's figure out how to choose a chrysanthemum when purchasing.

First of all, you need to carefully examine it, make sure that the plant is strong, dense, the leaves are well developed, and insects are not crawling along the trunk. Like any plant, a chrysanthemum, when brought home, should be quarantined for a couple of days. This will help her adapt to your home environment. Do not become infected from other plants and do not affect the development of your already established flowers.

How to grow an oak tree from an acorn

If you want to grow an oak tree from an acorn, the most important thing is to find good acorns and save them for spring planting. You can plant them in the fall, but they will most likely be eaten by mice in the winter.

The best acorns are the ones that fall from the tree last. Therefore, they need to be collected at the end of September or early October. Under the tallest and strongest tree, the largest and healthiest-looking acorns are collected.

For storage, they are placed in a cool basement or refrigerator. In order for the acorns not to dry out, they must be kept at a temperature of about zero degrees. Moderate air humidity and air circulation are needed, so acorns cannot be stored in sealed packaging. At room temperature until spring they will certainly dry out and become unviable.

How to distinguish living acorns from dead ones? Living ones are light yellow inside, dead ones are black. If you place them in water, living acorns will sink, and dead acorns will float.

Acorns germinate slowly. They need to be planted in the ground as soon as the soil warms up. If you want to grow a lot of oak seedlings, then planting acorns should be done in parallel furrows located 20 centimeters from one another.

Acorns are placed at a distance of 2 to 10 cm from each other. If you are going to grow them in this place as a permanent one, then the distance should be at least 15 cm. Acorns are buried 2–3 cm into the soil and sprinkled with earth. They need to be laid horizontally. From a sprouted acorn, the root first begins to grow, and the shoot appears only a month after the root begins to grow. Subsequently, weak seedlings are removed, leaving the strongest ones.

Usually one- and two-year-old oak seedlings are sold. In order for a two-year-old seedling to have a developed root with many lateral branches, it is recommended to replant one-year-old seedlings, cutting off the main root at a distance of 25 cm from the remains of the acorn. If an annual seedling is planted in a permanent place, there is no need to cut off the main root.

Chrysanthemums - late autumn flowers

In September, against the general background of wilting, chrysanthemums reign in flower beds. Autumn flowers have a tart wormwood scent and an unsurpassed richness of colors. The picturesque picture is complemented by bees, bumblebees and butterflies that flock to them from all over the area. There is something special about this flower. For me , without chrysanthemums, a garden is not a garden , and autumn is not autumn.

I have long given my preference to ground Korean chrysanthemums, we also call them oaks. They successfully winter with light shelter even north of the middle zone. In spring, their sprouts are among the first to appear from the ground, long before the earlier soloists of flower beds wake up: peonies, astilbes and hosts. Neat dome-shaped bushes with carved bluish leaves decorate flower beds all summer long. Mass flowering of Korean chrysanthemums begins in September and continues until snow falls.

To achieve abundant flowering of Korean chrysanthemums, I adhere to several rules:

  • I plant them in the highest and sunniest places. Chrysanthemums are more afraid of damping off and getting wet than frost. During flowering, oak trees are able to withstand frosts down to -10°C, and then thaw and continue to bloom;
  • the soil should be loose, fertile and non-acidic, with a reaction close to neutral. And no fresh manure, otherwise they will fatten and not bloom;
  • In the spring I often loosen the soil. At this time, the root system and underground shoots are growing, from which a bush will be formed. In the future, I stop loosening so as not to damage the young shoots;
  • oak trees that bloom at the end of August - beginning of September, I always pinch off the 6-10th leaf in the spring. This simple operation practically does not delay their flowering time, but allows you to get lush bushes and increase the number of buds. And most importantly - root shoots. Having overwintered, it takes root well. I grow chrysanthemums that bloom at the end of September in their natural bush form, pinching only individual elongated shoots;
  • if I want to get large inflorescences, then in the spring after regrowth I remove some of the shoots, leaving no more than 3-5, depending on the development of the bush;
  • I do the first feeding in the spring with a solution of herbal infusion (or chicken droppings) with the addition of 25-35 g of azophosphate per 10 liters, and before budding - only with a solution of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers;
  • Korean chrysanthemums winter well if they are constantly rejuvenated. In the spring I plant all the plants, throwing out the old center of the bush;
  • I don’t cut chrysanthemums in the fall, I leave them to winter like that. I just sprinkle it with humus. As a last resort, I cut off several branches with flowers dried from frost and cover the bush with them. This is for snow retention.

Rules for caring for Chinese chrysanthemum

Oaks are unpretentious flowers, the cultivation of which is considered not difficult. Regular, well-drained garden soil is optimal for growing. The plant cannot withstand stagnant moisture . In such places, the likelihood of winter freezing increases. If the site has clay soil, then before planting it must be diluted with peat, humus, and compost.

The best time to plant oak trees is spring. The distance between planting holes is about 40 cm . In addition to organic matter, a small amount of mineral fertilizer is added to their bottom. They are quite enough for two or three years of bush development. Plants grow quickly, turning from a small seedling into a spreading bush in one season. This requires careful attention to feeding chrysanthemums.

The distance between chrysanthemums is determined depending on the variety

It is recommended to carry out the first feeding two weeks after planting . For this purpose, nitrogen-containing fertilizers are used. During the budding period, it is recommended to apply potassium-phosphorus fertilizers. They are also used at the moment of mass flowering of bushes. The plant is watered with an organic solution throughout the growing season. In the fall, after pruning the bush, it is useful to add organic matter around each bush along with bone meal and superphosphate. Florists consider ready-made preparations Aquarin, Omu flower, Gumi-Omi to be the best fertilizers for oak trees.

Watering matters for the quantity and preservation of flowers. With a lack of moisture, the stems of oak trees become lignified, and the beauty of flower stalks decreases . Water carefully, trying not to get water on the leaves. In the fall, after pruning the bush, you need to make sure that there is no stagnation of water in the place where the flowers grow. The last step in caring for the plant is pruning, preserving the stumps, about 15 cm high, and covering them for the winter. To do this, it is recommended to use sawdust, peat, spruce branches, dry leaves, and stems of annual flowers. Winter shelter should not be dense.

I even replant flowering ones

Korean chrysanthemums are also good because they can tolerate transplantation to a new place in any condition, but subject to the following conditions:

  • if you just need to transplant the bush to another place, then two weeks before, cut the roots around the plant with a shovel at a distance of 15-30 cm, this technique will cause the formation of new roots. The chrysanthemum should be replanted with a clod of earth, having first watered it well. It is better to choose a cloudy or rainy day. After transplanting, the soil can be watered with root. It is advisable to complete all manipulations before frost;
  • if you bought a blooming chrysanthemum, let it bloom (you can use the same packaging that you brought from the market), and then, cutting it to a height of 5-10 cm, send it to a cool basement for the winter. If you want to leave it in the garden for the winter, then before planting the bush needs to be trimmed short. Otherwise, it may not survive the winter, especially if it does not have root shoots.

Important point

When buying blooming chrysanthemums, pay attention to the shoots (young shoots). If it is not there, it means they are selling the old part of the bush . And she doesn't winter well.

And a few more recommendations for replanting oak trees:

  • try to transplant the oak to a new place with part of the old soil in which it grew, this will allow the tree to take root better;
  • when replanting, it is important to choose the right place so that the soil is fertile and acidic;
  • oaks are not a capricious plant; they tolerate drought well. However, at a relatively young age of 1 to 2 years, it would be better to protect it from sunlight, otherwise the oak may burn. You can cover it with something or put something that will create shade.
  • By mid-summer, the oak tree may become infected with an infection called powdery mildew. How to eliminate the infection is written in the article “ Plant an oak tree. How to do this correctly? »

Oak is a sacred tree among the Slavs, “king of the forests.” He was inextricably linked with the head of the pagan pantheon - Perun. The tree attracted the lightning of the thunder god, and for this reason there was a ban on planting an oak tree in the immediate vicinity of the house.

Sacrifices were made to the deities under the oak tree, and idols were carved from fallen trees. At the dawn of Christianity, during the fight against paganism, there was even a separate ban on “singing prayers in front of an oak tree.” Belarusians, in particular, believed that if you try to cut down an old oak tree, blood will flow from under the ax.

In mythology, the oak always acts as a symbol of strength - a male tree. For example, in the Vitebsk region, a boy’s umbilical cord was cut by a midwife on an oak block. But with all this, in most Slavic traditions they still did not dare to plant an oak tree near the house. Thus, in our Polesie it was believed that the owner of the house would die as soon as the oak trunk reached sufficient thickness to make a cross out of it. Although whether this is a serious threat is a big question, since the oak trunk will gain a meter thickness only by the end of the first century of its life.

However, there are also completely opposite superstitions associated with this tree: “when a lad plants an oak tree smaller than himself near his hut, and the lad’s oak tree outgrows it, the lad will be healthy; if the oak tree does not grow, the lad will get sick.”

In practical applications, the so-called bog oak. The wood of this tree successfully and very deeply absorbs salts contained in river water, which gives the tree such strength that even processing it with metal tools later appears to be a difficult task. Such strength of oak led to the fact that it was not only used to make support logs for log houses, but also to hollow out coffins and make tombstone crosses. Hence the popular phrase “give a damn.”

The oak as a symbol of strength could not help but take its place in folk medicine: Belarusians, after washing a consumptive patient, tried to pour water under a young oak tree so that the power of this plant would take away the disease; It was believed that oak could save from infertility.

I rejuvenate regularly

Chrysanthemums grow quickly, so I keep them in flower beds without replanting for more than two years. In the first year they branch well, bloom profusely and colorfully, in the second year each bush already has 10-20 branched shoots. If chrysanthemums are not planted in the third year, they turn into real brooms: thin shoots with small, quickly fading inflorescences only at the ends. Such bushes can only be used for queen cells.

I propagate chrysanthemums most often by dividing the bush or by root shoots. I usually divide the bushes when replanting. Each division should have 2-3 shoots with roots. In early spring, I separate the root shoots from the bush with a shovel and move them with a large lump of earth to a new place.

Oak trees also reproduce well by cuttings, especially axillary ones. When I pinch the shoots, I don’t throw away the tops, but stick them into the ground so that I have young plants by the fall.

I tried to sow chrysanthemum with seeds . Shoots will germinate better if you sow them before winter.

If I need to quickly get a lot of planting material, then in late autumn I dig up the bushes I need with a lump of earth. I make a groove and place chrysanthemums in it so that only the tops remain at the top. Then I cover everything with soil, water it well and mulch with humus. After the ground freezes, I throw spruce paws on top. In spring, a sprout with a root appears from each leaf axil. All that remains is to dig up the bush, divide it and plant it.

Growing oak flowers

This is an unpretentious crop that will require a minimum of attention from the gardener, so it can be recommended to novice summer residents and gardeners. With the simplest care, a Korean chrysanthemum can grow in one place for about 5 years, after which it is recommended to change the location of the flower garden by transplanting the cuttings to a new place of residence.

Planting Korean chrysanthemum

Oak trees can be planted either by rooted cuttings or by planting seeds in open ground.
For planting, seeds are used that have been collected for a year or more. Such well-prepared planting material will have a germination rate of almost 100%. Chrysanthemums are planted in fertile soil, to which organic fertilizers and a small amount of nitrogen-containing fertilizers are added. The nutrition in organic matter will be sufficient for several years of flower growth, after which the plantings can be additionally fed with complex mineral fertilizers for flowers.

When using rooted cuttings, they must be planted in holes with a depth of about 30 centimeters. The optimal spacing for seedlings is 30-40 centimeters. Such plants grow quickly, so in just one season you can get a luxurious flower bed with bright flowers.

Caring for planted seeds and seedlings consists of watering them and regularly weeding the beds, which will prevent the occurrence of various infectious diseases in oak trees. When planting seedlings in the fall, it is recommended to mulch the soil, which will protect the plants from winter cold.

Proper care of plantings

If you provide the simplest care, this flower crop will be distinguished by its rapid growth rate and excellent decorative effect. The gardener will need to provide the following:

  • Perform timely watering.
  • Trim the bush.
  • After 2 years after planting, feed the plants.
  • Pick off the lower leaves and weed the flower garden.
  • Cover plants for the winter.

This is a moisture-loving crop, so regular watering will be required, which has a positive effect on the decorative appearance of the plantings. When watering, be careful not to let water get on the leaves, which can lead to sunburn. In summer, Korean chrysanthemums need to be watered several times a month.

Annual pruning is performed in spring and autumn. In the spring, the gardener will need to remove frozen and dried branches. In the fall, before the onset of cold weather, the bush is pruned in such a way as to leave small stumps with a height of about 15 centimeters. Subsequently, the autumn flower garden is mulched and covered with spruce branches. Next spring, provided proper care is taken, the chrysanthemum will quickly grow green mass and will soon bloom profusely.

When using fertile soil, the first feeding of oak trees should be done in the second year after planting. Potassium-phosphorus fertilizers are applied to the soil, and before the growing season the plants are fed with nitrogen-containing complexes. During the flowering period, potassium-phosphorus mineral complexes are also added to ensure maximum decorative effect. In the fall, after flowering has completed, you can water the bush with a light solution of mullein and other organic matter. Experienced gardeners use specialized flower complexes called Gumi Omi, OMU flower and Aquamarine for fertilizer.

Throughout the growing season, you will need to regularly weed the beds and remove weeds. It is weeds that can contribute to the emergence of various infectious diseases, taking away nutrition from the bush, which significantly weakens the flowers.

It will also be necessary to promptly remove all lower leaves during the period of active growth, which prevents the development of various diseases in the plant.

Korean chrysanthemums (oaks).

Chrysanthemums are one of the last flowers that delight us with their bright inflorescences until the frosts.
There are different types of chrysanthemums: there are annuals, with large flowers, grown mainly for cutting, but the most widespread in our gardens are perennial small-flowered or Korean chrysanthemums. People also call them oak trees, thanks to their leaves, which are shaped like oak trees. These are exactly what we will talk about today. Korean chrysanthemum bushes range in height from 30 to 120 cm. Its inflorescence is a basket consisting of many flowers, the size of the inflorescences ranges from 5 to 10 cm, and there can be up to 100 of them on one bush. The inflorescences are double, semi-double, pomp-shaped and flat. Oak trees come in many colors: white, yellow, orange, red, lilac. Chrysanthemum inflorescences have a fresh, pleasant aroma. The plant blooms for quite a long time; if faded inflorescences are removed in a timely manner, it can last up to four months.

Description and popular varieties of Dubka

Currently, about 650 species of chrysanthemums are known, grouped into 13 groups according to types of inflorescences . Among them are pompom, feathery, bristly, spherical, anemone-shaped, simple, low-growing, semi-double, double types of plants. Perennial and annual species. One of the conditional groups includes cold-resistant Korean chrysanthemums. The list of varieties of Korean chrysanthemums contains a large number of multi-colored forms, despite the meaning of the word chrysanthemum as “golden-colored.”

Korean chrysanthemums

a Korean chrysanthemum bush can reach 25, 130 cm. The inflorescences are formed from a large number of small flowers or several large ones, reaching 12 cm. The flowers can have the shape of a tube or a tongue. Often up to 400 inflorescences bloom simultaneously on a bush, collected in a complex panicle . The branched root system, located at a depth of up to 20 cm, has shoots in the form of stolons and numerous shoots.

Terry chrysanthemum

Terry and semi-double varieties have a specific smell, similar to the freshness of autumn fogs, not yet cold rains. If faded inflorescences are promptly removed, the total duration of flower growth on the stems reaches four months. Japan and China are considered the birthplace of oak trees. In Russia, chrysanthemums began to be cultivated as a cultural perennial flower in the middle of the last century. There is evidence that the main set of modern varieties of “Korean hybrids” began as a result of crossing work carried out by A. Cumming in 1928.

Diseases and pests.

Korean chrysanthemums are quite disease resistant. Most plant diseases are associated with improper agricultural practices, namely excessive waterlogging. These are all kinds of fungal diseases and rot. In addition, oak trees can be affected by viral and bacterial diseases. The fight against them usually comes down to destroying the affected plant.

Of the pests, the greatest danger to chrysanthemums is root and leaf nematodes. Chemical methods of combating them are not effective. In addition, oak trees are attacked by aphids, mites, thrips, and whiteflies. You can fight them with insecticides.
