The best flower is a rose
Roses are perhaps the most popular and sought after flowers in the world. Any gardener has these beautiful plants on his plot. Currently, there are such a huge number of varieties of roses that it is sometimes difficult to decide on the color when purchasing. Varieties of yellow roses are especially popular. They always attract attention with a special inner glow, especially flowers with scarlet tones. Roses have won the love of gardeners for a reason. One of the reasons for the popularity of the plant, of course, is its beautiful flowers. Another factor in the general spread of the fashion trend is the long flowering of modern varieties. If previously the rose bloomed in May-June, then re-blooming could only be expected in September. Currently, many varieties have been bred that do not interrupt their flowering. Such bushes delight with their beauty throughout the warm season. The varieties of yellow roses, which are a decoration for any flower garden, deserve special attention.
Color meanings of roses in a bouquet
Roses have been popular for 4 thousand years and remain the most popular flowers for any occasion. Few people know that the color and number of flowers in a bouquet has its own designation.
The meaning of white roses
For centuries, the light palette has been identified with spiritual feelings, which correspond to earthly passions and heavenly purity and some holiness. A snow-white bouquet is presented to convey sincere thoughts, to tell a person: “You can trust me, I’m not planning anything bad against you.”
.
Another subtext of the shade is youth. In Scotland there is a sign: if a bush of snow-white roses blooms in a house in the fall, the boy or girl who lives there will meet their soulmate early.
Rose red color
The meaning of the color of red roses means true, passionate love and desire. Many people know that the smell of pink and red roses is amazing. It expresses passion and deep love. These flowers are also presented as a sign of admiration and respect.
Red and white roses combined in one bouquet mean harmonious love, unanimity, strong and long-lasting friendship, and union.
Moreover, if the giver chooses white rose petals framed with a red border, then the meaning will be the same. The combination of white and red flowers in a bouquet seems to say to the recipient: “You and I are one.”
Why are burgundy roses given?
The meaning of burgundy roses is similar to red, but has a deeper meaning. There is no place for passion here (scarlet flowers “scream” about this), but there is much more love, devotion and respect in them. Such bouquets are usually given to mature women, ladies in high status, bosses and women in leadership positions.
The color of burgundy buds will emphasize the status of a woman, tell her about her attractiveness and hint that she is loved and very much appreciated. The main thing in choosing burgundy roses is to give preference to tight and closed buds, since excessively blooming flowers can symbolize “withering and lifelessness” for a lady.

INTERESTING: The negative impression of yellow roses was received many years ago during the existence of a legend that claimed that white roses turned yellow in the hands of a traitor. Later, Catherine the Great introduced an official statement into the “language of flowers” that their yellow color is a sign of betrayal and infidelity. However, modern roses have long been no longer associated with such opinions.

. On the other hand, in Russian culture, a composition of black roses is appropriate to express grief and sadness in the event of the loss of a person.
Geisha
Yellow-red roses are incredibly beautiful. They have a special mysterious glow in the evening. Geisha rose is popular among rose growers. The plant has a very beautiful flower, which even when fully bloomed does not reveal the middle. This is due to the fact that the petals have different structures. The lower ones are very large and wavy, they bend downwards. And the upper ones are much smaller, there are many of them, they are collected into a dense bud. Geisha rose stands out among other flowers thanks to its extraordinary petals. The height of the bud reaches six centimeters, and the diameter when fully bloomed is twelve centimeters. The petals in the flower are so densely arranged that it seems as if they are very cramped there. This is an important point when cutting a flower, since the rose ideally retains its shape for seven to ten days. The flower emits a subtle aroma. In calm weather, you can feel how Geisha exudes a sweet, delicate, very light aroma.
The bushes reach a height of one meter. The plant has strong stems that hold large buds. The beauty of the flowers is emphasized by dark green leaves.
This variety is also planted in greenhouses for further cutting. With indirect lighting, the buds elongate even more, become taller, the stem lengthens, and the petals become completely white.
This variety has advantages such as resistance to diseases and freezing. The plant overwinters well even in places with harsh climatic conditions, but during the cold period it needs to be covered. The hybrid tea rose is completely unpretentious; at the minimum cost you will get beautiful lush flowers.

Variety Pilgrim
Rose Pilgrim has a beautiful delicate flower of light color. The inner petals are painted in a more saturated color, but the outer ones are almost white. This creates a glowing effect. The flower has a very delicate and discreet appearance; it goes well with other varieties.
Many breeders believe that the Pilgrim rose has one of the most perfect buds. Being a hybrid form, this rose has a very unusual aroma of a mixture of myrrh and tea rose. Such bushes are perfect for decorating and landscaping parks and gardens. Roses bloom in huge clusters of inflorescences that do not fall off for a long time. Gradually, the first flowers wait for the last ones to bloom.
The bushes themselves have a very lush shape, strong shoots and shiny waxy leaves. Breeders state that the height of the plant ranges from 105 to 305 centimeters. However, it is difficult to grow a bush of this size under normal conditions. Typically the height of the plant is one meter.

The plant is universal in use; it looks very advantageous in hedges, when planted alone, or in isolated groups.
Preparing roses for winter
If you live in the middle zone, then it is better to make a shelter for floribunda roses. But first you should trim the bush, clear it of leaves and flowers. The soil is sprinkled with fallen leaves or covered with spruce branches, and the whole thing is covered with non-woven material. This will be enough for the plant to survive even the most severe frosts. Then the winter shelter is removed in early spring (if stable warm weather has already established) so that the rose does not begin to rot and rot from excessive humidity and high temperature.

David Austin varieties
In recent decades, gardeners have had an excellent opportunity to enjoy not only tea and garden varieties, but also wonderful pompom roses that seem to have just stepped out of old Flemish paintings. Many now popular varieties appeared thanks to the English farmer David Austin. Back in the fifties, he crossed tea and garden varieties with floribunda roses, as a result, many new colors were obtained, including yellow species. New varieties could re-bloom or bloom all the time. In addition, they were more resistant to cold and disease. These varieties are the dream of any gardener.
Hybridization of new varieties takes at least eight years. Every year David Austin creates new varieties. The breeder's intention was that each new species was increasingly adapted to any weather conditions and required minimal care.
Those who are fans of David Austin varieties need to know some of the nuances of growing roses.
All species come from Foggy Albion, and therefore do not really like direct sunlight. Therefore, it is better to plant them in partial shade.
There are a large number of David Austin varieties. Its climbing roses can be used to decorate walls, gazebos, arches, and pergolas. A characteristic feature of such plants is the flowering of buds from the very base of the stem to the tips. A similar phenomenon cannot be found in other climbing varieties, which have bare branches with flowers at the very edge of the branch, which looks unsightly.
English roses require breathable soil. When planting, it is recommended to add humus and compost.
Modern gardeners are very fond of floribunda roses. Their color palette in English varieties is incredibly wide. In addition, they exude an incomparable aroma. Unlike other varieties, they are incredibly fragrant.
The corrugated roses are very beautiful. Many bred varieties can withstand frosts of up to forty degrees under light shelter.
Also good are ground cover species, the long shoots of which cover the ground. They do not require huge areas, but at the same time they constantly bloom and delight with bright colors, creating carpets of flowers.
I would like to note that David Austin varieties are significantly different from other roses. If you love such flowers, you should definitely have an English rose in your garden. Plants bred by David Austin change their aroma throughout the day depending on the weather, humidity, and temperature. In the morning they smell completely different than in the evening.
Also striking is the lush shape and size of the flowers, some of them reach fifteen centimeters in diameter. This is something amazing.
General characteristics of the plant
Despite the large number of varieties, bushes are divided into 3 subspecies:
high | growing more than 1 meter |
medium height | the height of which varies from 60 cm to 100 cm |
low-growing (border) | which grow a maximum of 40 cm |
There are a great variety of colors of roses. Flowers can be double and simple, goblet-shaped and flat, semi-double, with multi-flowered or few-flowered inflorescences. The length of the flowers reaches from 4 to 9 centimeters.
Floribunda roses can bloom year-round or in three waves. Bright flowers open simultaneously, 2-3 pieces in one inflorescence. These bushes tolerate winters well, are not afraid of rain, and are practically not destroyed by diseases. The bulk reproduces well using cuttings.
Each country calls this beauty differently. Sometimes they are simply called bush or bouquet roses. Currently, most amateur gardeners prefer to plant rose bushes in their garden. They also show off in parks, squares, and around free-standing office buildings. They grow well both outdoors and in flower pots. Mainly used as cutting material for making bouquets.
Some David Austin varieties
At one time, David Austin was amazed by antique French roses. He wanted to use them to create new varieties that would bloom all season and at the same time have an amazing aroma and an incredibly beautiful flower. It must be said that the farmer managed to make his dream come true. He created a large number of varieties with excellent qualities that became famous throughout the world.
So, in 1980, a new variety of yellow rose appeared in David Austin's arsenal, which he named in honor of his friend Graham Thomas. This species has a unique shade, rarely found in roses.
The most famous varieties include:
- Constance Spry.
- Evelyn.
- Eglantune.
- Golden Celebration
- Gertrude Jekyll.
- Mary Rose.
- Graham Thomas.
- Charlotte.
- Pat Austin.
- Molineux.
- L. D. Braithwaite.
- Scepter'd lsle.
Golden variety
Among the yellow varieties, the Golden Celebration rose stands out. It has simply giant spherical flowers on drooping branches, colored coppery yellow. This shade is unique to the English rose. Looking at the rose up close, you will notice that the unusual effect is achieved due to the presence of small pink spots on the petals on a yellow background. Well, we can’t keep silent about the strong, wonderful smell. This variety combines disease resistance, elegance, beauty, and strength. This is one of David Austin's best views. The bushes bloom very profusely with proper care. The flowers are densely double and large. They combine an antique-looking shape and a completely modern color.
This variety is represented in shades of cream, egg yellow, peach, copper yellow, and pink. The aroma is described as fruity and spicy. Flowering begins in early summer, followed by regular periods of roses re-blooming. Golden Celebration bushes reach one and a half meters in height. The leaves of the plant are dark and hard, the vines are moderately prickly.
Variety Thomas Graham
Of the yellow varieties of roses, Thomas Graham is the most popular. This phenomenon is understandable, since there are few species that can boast such a beautiful and pure yellow hue. The autumn flowers of the plant are large and cup-shaped and smell like tea roses.
This variety can be characterized as the most variable and inconsistent in terms of bud shades. Flowers range in color from bright yellow to peach. But with age they fade and become much lighter.
Flowers are formed in clusters, flowering begins in early summer, then wavy, moderate flowering is observed. The bushes have arched branches with dark green leaves. The variety belongs to tall plants. In cold climates, bushes grow up to one and a half meters. And in hot countries, the plant produces lashes up to three meters in length, which can be sent along supports. In temperate climates, bushes can manifest themselves differently.
English roses
Unfortunately, not all David Austin varieties are represented on our market. Although his roses have long been widely used in parks and gardens. They are good because they very quickly create tall flowering masses. Some varieties are wonderful for forming hedges. And shrub species will decorate any, even the most sophisticated, flower bed.
Some varieties are even used for container growing. These roses take root well in pots and flowerpots. And in winter, such plants are buried under cover with all the garden bushes. Austin himself advises planting roses in groups, since all of his varieties are compatible in color.
But as for blooming, roses bloom very first, which is their advantage. In June they are already blooming safely. This means that you can soon count on the reappearance of flower stalks.
Almost all Austin varieties are shade-tolerant, so they thrive in partial shade. Three hours of direct sunlight per day is enough for them.
However, for all the positive features of Austin varieties, there are some disadvantages. Roses are not resistant to excess moisture and rain. If there are showers during the flowering period, you may not enjoy all the beauty, since the flowers simply do not open and begin to rot. Wet buds do not have enough strength to bloom.
Rain has a very detrimental effect on pompom English roses. Their petals stick together due to water and do not open. However, you should not focus too much attention on this, since, in principle, there are no ideal varieties; each has its nuances. David Austin's roses undoubtedly deserve close attention.
How to plant and care for yellow roses
If you want to achieve maximum results from your plantings, you will have to put in a lot of effort. As a rule, yellow roses are planted in the autumn, starting from September and ending in mid-October. When purchasing planting material, give preference to strong and healthy plants. Choose well-lit areas to plant your yellow roses.
Buildings, tall bushes or trees should be located further away so that there is no unnecessary shadow. Do not plant yellow roses in lowlands; groundwater should not be too high. The site must be protected from gusts of wind and drafts. The soil acidity level should be no higher than 6.5 units. There must be good drainage, as well as a sufficient amount of nutrients.
Roses should be planted in containers after the soil has been thoroughly watered. The roots need to be pruned and the stems shortened. As for the depth of the planting hole, it should be ten centimeters greater than the length of the root system. The graft must be placed in the soil, immersed to a depth of three to four centimeters. After the plant is planted, compact the soil and form a roller. This is necessary to prevent water from escaping. The next day, water your seedling. At first (about ten days from planting), protect the plants from sunlight.
As your shrub grows, pinch the tops of the shoots, and you also need to remove excess buds by mid-July. Also do not forget about regular pruning and watering. Periodically, the soil needs to be loosened, weeds removed, and fertilizers applied.
