White cinquefoil: cultivation and care in open ground

Benefits of white cinquefoil for thyroid diseases

White cinquefoil (five-fingered) is a perennial plant that is recognized by official medicine as a medicinal plant. It contains micro- and macroelements necessary for the occurrence of redox reactions:

  • albinin;
  • magnesium;
  • glycosides;
  • silicon;
  • amino acids;
  • saponins;
  • manganese;
  • tannins;
  • aluminum;
  • phenolcarboxylic acids;
  • periodic acid;
  • flavonoids;
  • selenium;
  • starch;
  • iron.

Fivepal normalizes the level of hormones in the blood by restoring the secretory activity of the thyroid gland. Systematic use of cinquefoil provides:

  • regression of inflammation in the thyroid gland;
  • strengthening general immunity;
  • increasing the elasticity of blood vessels;
  • activation of reduction reactions in the gland.

Unlike hormonal drugs, cinquefoil is less likely to provoke unwanted effects.

Who is herbal medicine indicated for?

Five-fingered herbal medicine is prescribed for heart disease and thyroid dysfunction. For endocrine disorders, the plant is used instead of synthetic substitutes for thyroid hormones - Levothyroxine, Triiodothyronine, Thiamazole, etc. Indications for taking cinquefoil are:

Features of herbal medicine are determined by the form of endocrine disease. The frequency of administration, dosage of herbal remedies and course duration are determined by the attending physician. Irrational use of white cinquefoil is fraught with side effects.

In the absence of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, it is used to prevent iodine deficiency conditions. The bioactive components contained in the plant restore the functioning of the thyroid gland when it is overactive or has decreased function. Phytoncides and microelements have a beneficial effect on metabolism and normalize the rate of division of thyrocytes. Rapid cell renewal prevents their mutation, the formation of compactions, nodes and cysts.

According to laboratory studies, the maximum amount of bioactive components is contained in the root:

  • manganese;
  • albinin;
  • iodous acid;
  • iridoids;
  • selenium;
  • starch;
  • zinc;
  • meletin.

Patients with thyroid pathologies are advised to use cinquefoil to prevent iodine deficiency. Dietary supplements and herbal preparations based on the plant restore secretory activity, accelerate the resorption of compactions and prevent diffuse changes in the gland.

If the gland is not functioning sufficiently, patients complain of disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract - intestinal colic, constipation, heartburn, etc. Cinquefoil is a medicinal plant with a wide range of therapeutic properties. It is often used in complex therapy of cardiovascular, gynecological, and gastroenterological diseases. Regular use of pharmaceutical and folk remedies with five-finger prevents atherosclerosis, stool disorders, anemia, hypertension, etc.

Cinquefoil has a pronounced effect, which is due to the presence of elemental iodine in its composition. Therefore, herbal medicine with preparations containing rhizome extract is recommended for all patients with overactive or underactive thyroid gland.

Description and photo

White cinquefoil is a low herbaceous plant, usually the stem is no more than twenty centimeters high, while its root is extremely developed: it can go almost a meter deep into the ground. The white flowers of the herb can give the plant a resemblance to strawberries; people who do not understand berries and medicinal plants can often confuse them.

Cinquefoil is an extremely undemanding plant, it can grow in almost any climate, it can take root anywhere. However, despite its unpretentiousness, pentapalm does not grow everywhere in the wild; in a number of places, some varieties of the plant are included in the Red Book. The plant becomes rare due to the fact that cinquefoil grows very slowly; if you collect it in large quantities, after some time there will be too little of it.

Where does white cinquefoil grow? On the territory of Russia, you can find grass in the middle zone, but sometimes it is found in the Urals and in a number of other regions. However, it is unlikely that you will be able to find grass in the wild and collect it due to its rarity and small number of plants.

In addition to white cinquefoil, there are several other varieties of the plant, but they are not usually used in medicine. For medicinal purposes, all parts of the herb are usually used; the entire stem with leaves, flowers and root are prepared. Properly collected and prepared raw materials can be stored for several years, practically without losing their healing properties.

Important! Since today the plant is considered rare, they are trying to grow cinquefoil artificially for use in medicine.

How to take correctly: herbal recipes

White cinquefoil for the thyroid gland is used in the form of infusion, decoction and alcohol tincture. Herbal medicines are prepared from inflorescences and roots, which contain a lot of iodine. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of organic changes in the gland and the degree of disruption of its secretory activity.

Alcohol tincture

In case of insufficient and increased function of the gland, it is recommended to take a tincture of five fingers. It has pronounced anti-inflammatory and regenerating properties. To prepare it, you should:

  • chop 50 g of cinquefoil rhizomes;
  • pour ½ liter of vodka over the raw material;
  • close the glass container with a nylon lid;
  • After 20-25 days, strain the tincture.

The dose and frequency of taking the herbal remedy depends on the form of gland pathology. For nodular goiter, the drug should be taken orally according to the following scheme:

  • add 30 drops to 100 ml of boiled water;
  • take the tincture 25 minutes before meals 3 times a day;
  • The duration of herbal medicine is 2.5-3 months.

For a relatively mild form of the disease, the tincture is taken for 1 month. Take a break for 1.5 weeks and repeat the course 2-3 more times according to the described scheme. Nodules on the gland noticeably decrease after a month of herbal medicine.

Ointment

To enhance the effect of taking the tincture, it is advisable to simultaneously treat the throat with ointment with cinquefoil. It is prepared simply:

  • add 3 tbsp to 50 ml of liquid honey. l. crushed cinquefoil roots;
  • leave the product in the refrigerator for 5 days;
  • Apply to the throat in the area of nodes up to 4 times a day.

To treat the thyroid gland, you need to use cinquefoil that is at least 4-5 years old, the height of which exceeds 10 cm. This plant contains a lot of iodine and periodic acid, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the organ.

Water infusion

If there is insufficient production of thyroid hormones, take an infusion of pentapala leaves. It stimulates the absorption of iodine by the gland, thereby accelerating the synthesis of thyroid hormones - tri- and tetraiodothyronine.

Water infusion recipe:

  • 2 tbsp. l. dried leaves are poured into a thermos;
  • steam the cinquefoil with ½ liter of boiling water;
  • infuse the herbal medicine for at least 7-8 hours;
  • filter through cheesecloth.

Pure, undiluted infusion based on bloodroot can be taken twice a day, 100 ml. To achieve maximum effect, the herbal medicine is consumed 25 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is determined by the degree of dysfunction of the gland and varies from 4 to 6 weeks. If necessary, herbal medicine is repeated after 1.5-2 weeks.

For congenital hypothyroidism in children, take an infusion prepared from the roots of cinquefoil:

  • 1 tbsp. l. rhizomes are steamed with 500 ml of boiling water in a thermos;
  • insist throughout the night;
  • filter the product through cheesecloth.

The infusion is taken three times a day, ½ glass 20 minutes before meals. Begin treatment with small doses - 1-2 tbsp. l. funds for 1 appointment. Gradually the single dose is increased to 100-125 ml. In case of gland deficiency, the course of therapy is 2-3 months. The recipe is suitable for adults and children for whom herbal remedies with alcohol are contraindicated.

Decoction

The medicinal decoction has the most pronounced effect on the gland. It is taken to treat the thyroid gland with thyrotoxicosis and chronic thyroiditis. The herbal medicine is prepared according to the following recipe:

  • 25 g of cinquefoil rhizome is poured into 1 liter of mineral water;
  • bring the liquid to a boil and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes;
  • The cooled broth is filtered through cheesecloth.

It is undesirable to increase the dosage due to a possible increase in intestinal motility and stool disturbances.

The dosage depends on the age of the patient. For hyperthyroidism in adults, the decoction is taken taking into account the following rules:

  • number of appointments per day – 3;
  • single dose of herbal remedy – 150 ml;
  • Duration of treatment – 2 months.

The decoction is recommended for women who suffer from an overactive thyroid gland. Its systematic use not only reduces the level of thyroid hormones in the blood, but also:

  • reduces pain during menstruation;
  • restores the menstrual cycle;
  • strengthens general immunity;
  • relieves symptoms of menopause.

More concentrated decoction - 1 tbsp. l. rhizomes per 250 ml of water - will eliminate hypertension caused by endocrine disorders in the body.

Pharmaceutical preparations based on white cinquefoil

Preparations with cinquefoil extract are as effective as many hormonal medications that are included in thyroid therapy. According to European endocrinological centers, herbal remedies with pentapala rhizome normalize the synthesis of thyroid hormones in the gland. Tablets and syrups with plant extract have replaced many products with synthetic active ingredients.

Endorm

Dietary supplement with five-finger is used to treat the thyroid gland with excessive production of tri- and tetraiodothyronine. The phenolic compounds contained in the plant stimulate the production of TSH - thyrotropin, which controls the secretory activity of the gland.

Features of use:

  • dosage – 1 capsule;
  • frequency of administration – 3 times a day;
  • Duration of treatment is 35-60 days.

Endorm generally has a beneficial effect on the functions of the pituitary gland and thyroid gland, and prevents iodine deficiency.

Dietary supplements are not prescribed to women during pregnancy and lactation due to possible dysfunction of the thyroid gland in the child.

You should take 30 drops two to three times a day, first diluting it in 100 ml of water. The duration of the course is 25-30 days.

Planting cinquefoil in open ground

The flower is planted in partial shade, the soil is dry sandstone. The ground is dug up and leveled in advance.

Seeds are often sown before cold weather, then they carry out natural stratification, and simultaneous shoots are observed in the spring. The chosen place is well loosened, adding humus; this is done in advance so that the earth settles. The soil is carefully leveled with a rake, planting material is scattered over the surface and the soil is sealed.

When the seedlings appear, they are picked at a distance of about 10 cm and cleared of weeds. Stronger bushes are placed so that the interval between them is 20-40 cm.

In order not to spoil the planting material, seedlings are often used. In this situation, the seeds are used in March:

  • prepare the boxes and fill them with a mixture of peat and sand, taken in equal proportions;
  • moisten the soil;
  • seeds are placed on the surface;
  • crops are covered with polyethylene;
  • provide a temperature of +15…+18 °C;
  • After the formation of two permanent leaves, the cinquefoil is transplanted into different containers.

They are placed in open ground at the end of the summer season.

The choice of location depends on the variety. There are both capricious and unpretentious species. For example, shiny cinquefoil is placed in dry sandstones on the southern side of the site, white cinquefoil is placed in partial shade.

When planting seedlings in the ground, it is recommended to follow this plan:

  1. They make a hole. A layer of gravel is placed at the very bottom, and then the hole is filled ½ full with a substrate of leaf soil, humus and sand (2:2:1).
  2. The neck of the rhizome is placed so that it is located above the trench. Empty spaces are filled with garden soil, compacted and watered.
  3. A month after planting, the soil is regularly moistened, preventing moisture stagnation.
  4. Rapid drying of the soil is prevented by mulching the area around the bush with sawdust, bark and straw.

Adverse events

White cinquefoil is a plant that rarely causes side effects. But an overdose of pharmaceutical and folk remedies sometimes leads to:

  • to bowel dysfunction;
  • drowsiness;
  • lowering blood pressure;
  • skin rashes.

Hypersensitivity to plant components is fraught with allergic reactions. Therefore, it is not advisable to take the medicine without a doctor’s prescription or exceed the recommended dosage.

Medicinal properties

The composition of the plant allows it to be used to solve various problems. White cinquefoil is used in various fields of medicine.

Relieves irritability

The plant contains useful components that have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the nervous system. Thanks to this, it is possible to withstand stress factors.

Also, grass increases a person’s ability to work.

Reduce sweating

White cinquefoil includes a large number of tanning elements. Due to this, it is actively used to treat hyperhidrosis.

Adaptogenic and tonic effect

The plant increases vitality. Thanks to its use, the body's resistance to the influence of adverse factors increases.

Eliminates the effects of stress and toxins

Thanks to the use of the plant, it is possible to strengthen the nervous system and increase its resistance to stress factors. Potentilla also has a cleansing effect and successfully removes toxic substances.

Antiseptic

The above-ground part of the herb can be used for antiseptic purposes. Powders and ointments made from this product successfully cope with purulent processes.

Contraindications for use

Herbal remedies with pentapala root extract cause tachycardia at the very beginning of treatment. Contraindications to their use are:

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • severe hypotension;
  • inflammation of the gastric mucosa;
  • hypersensitivity to components.

You should refrain from herbal medicine during the period of exacerbation of allergic diseases, stomach or duodenal ulcers. It is undesirable to use the plant to treat the gland if myocardial contractile activity is impaired.

Reproduction methods

Plant propagation is carried out by planting seeds in the ground, or vegetatively. The first method is more effective because it does not transfer varietal characteristics.

It is necessary to grow seedlings in advance. Therefore, in the second half of March, cinquefoil seeds are sown evenly in a container with sandy soil. Then the soil is covered with a film on top, since it is necessary to maintain a temperature of +18...+22°C. After the first shoots appear, the film is removed. Seedlings begin to bloom after 2-3 years.

An excellent result can be obtained by cuttings. In summer, green shoots are cut off, leaving a length of approximately 15 cm. The lower leaves are removed from them, and the cut area is coated with Kornevin.

The shoots should be planted immediately in open soil, in a place protected from the sun. For 2 weeks, until the cutting takes root, it is better to cover it with film on top. This requires daily watering or spraying of the plants.

Reproduction by layering is suitable for cinquefoil species with creeping shoots. You just need to slightly damage the bark, or sprinkle the sprout with earth. The top of the shoot remains above the ground. Rooting lasts for a month. The plant is then separated and replanted.

Prevention of thyroid diseases using five fingers

Incorrect functioning of the thyroid gland is often associated with iodine deficiency. Regular use of cinquefoil prevents gland dysfunction and endocrine disorders. To prevent serious illness, you should:

  • Once every six months, undergo herbal medicine using tincture or infusion of five-palm;
  • take a decoction of the roots for 30 days at intervals of 6-7 months;
  • combine products based on cinquefoil extract with vitamin and mineral complexes.

To avoid iodine deficiency, you need to balance your diet and replace regular salt with iodized salt. Compliance with preventive measures reduces the risk of organic changes in the gland and disruption of its functions.
