A little about the history of selection

The originator of the culture is a seed and horticultural company from the Moscow region. The tomato variety Katyusha is a hybrid of the first selection by D. V. Zhemchugov, V. M. Nalizhitogo, V. A. Skachko and A. V. Borisov. The original name of the variety was Katya F1. It was included in the state register of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "State Varietal Commission" in 2007 and is recommended for cultivation in open and protected ground.

Varietal characteristics of tomato Katyusha

Tomato F1 is early ripening. It ripens in 85–120 days after sowing. In greenhouse conditions, full maturity of the fruit can be expected in 80-90 days.

The hybrid is resistant to severe drought and heat. Tolerates high humidity well in rainy summers. The yield of the variety ranges from 160 to 530 c/ha, depending on weather conditions. The yield of marketable fruits is about 87%. Gardeners note that when optimal growing conditions are achieved, it is possible to harvest from 1 m² to 10 kg of fruit in unprotected soil. Landing

Seeds for seedlings are planted 50-60 days before transplanting to the site. To get healthy seedlings, you need:

  1. Treat seeds, soil and containers with a solution of potassium permanganate before sowing.
  2. Allow the seeds to germinate in a warm place.
  3. For the first three days after germination, keep the sprouts at a temperature of +16 so that they do not stretch.
  4. Provide at least 8 hours of daylight.

For 1 sq. m place 4-5 bushes. The soil is fertilized and dug up in the fall. Choose an area where any crops except nightshades grew last season.

Features of bushes

Hybrid Katyusha – standard, determinant. Low-growing bushes stretch up to 80 cm. In greenhouse conditions they can grow 1.3 m tall. The crop grows with one stem, colored green. The leaves are small, oval-pointed, bright green. On the bush the density is medium. Inflorescences appear above the 7th leaf and are further initiated through it.

Characteristics of the fetus

The biological description of the variety reports:

  • flat-round shape of the fruit with a smooth surface, thin skin;
  • pulp juiciness;
  • bright pink or pink color of a ripe tomato;
  • medium-sized vegetable, the average weight of which is 120-130 g;
  • 6-8 chambers in the fruit;
  • dry matter content of no more than 5%;
  • sugar content 2.9%.

Due to the low dry matter content, hybrid tomatoes produce good juice with excellent taste characteristics.

Advantages and disadvantages of a hybrid

Tomato Katyusha has advantages over other varieties. Among them are:

  • high resistance to waterlogging and dry weather;
  • excellent taste - a combination of sweetness and sourness;
  • excellent transportability and keeping quality;
  • immunity to various diseases and pests.

The characteristics of the variety say that the hybrid has no pronounced disadvantages. Its cultivation is complicated by the fact that one bush is strewn with fruits. Branches may break off and need gartering.

Features of cultivation

The crop is planted with shoots or seeds. For the middle zone, it is optimal to plant grain material in a container 2 months before planting in open soil. Tomato seeds are buried 5 mm into the ground, covered with glass. After the formation of several leaves, the young shoots peak. Seedlings are placed in the ground after frost. The recommended landing pattern for Katyusha is 50x50 or 70x30. During planting activities, a special anti-mole cricket preparation is added to each hole under the bush. Then the plant is slightly moistened and covered.

Productivity

If all care requirements have been correctly met, the yield from one plant reaches more than 5 kg. From 1 m2 of planting, subject to the recommended scheme (from 5 to 8 bushes), approximately 17-20 kg are collected.

Which regions are best to grow in?

To get a bountiful harvest in unprotected soil, it is preferable to cultivate the tomato variety “Katyusha” in the southern regions. The variety shows similar yields when grown under film covers and greenhouse structures in the middle zone and more northern regions.

It can be planted both in a greenhouse and in open ground. The composition of the soil is not particularly important for tomatoes, and they also tolerate both excessive humidity and drought.

The tomato variety is particularly hardy. He is not afraid of diseases, even such dangerous ones as blossom end rot, Alternaria blight, etc.

It should be noted that tomatoes of the Katya variety have a marketable appearance, are perfectly stored, and can even withstand long-term transportation. They have a pleasant taste. They are used both fresh and for preparing for the winter, they combine perfectly with other components of the recipe, giving the finished dish a rich taste and aroma.

Pleasant taste and versatility of use are the hallmarks of many tomato varieties, but the description of the Katya tomato variety indicates some other important points for any gardener.

First of all this:

  • unpretentiousness;
  • high resistance to pests and diseases;
  • the ability to grow in almost any climatic conditions;
  • early and friendly ripening of tomatoes.

One of the advantages is that tomatoes have thick, elastic skin and do not crack.

We have already said that planting can be done both in open ground and in a greenhouse.

Caring for planted seedlings is no different. It is enough to carry out timely watering, feeding, and fertilizer. As evidenced by the description of the tomato variety, they do not require either picking or tying.

Seeds are planted in early to mid-March in small cups with a nutrient mixture. After the first true leaves appear, the seedlings are planted in larger containers.

Having studied the photos and reviews about Katya tomatoes, we can conclude that the plant feels good even when two or three stems are formed. So the yield is higher, and the appearance of the plantings is more attractive, but then you need to provide the plants with a sufficient amount of free space.

Growing tomatoes of this variety requires, perhaps, only one moment, which will 100% ensure a generous harvest. This is the introduction of daily fertilizing during the formation of ovaries.

Gardeners who love experiments claim that this variety, like the much-similar Anna tomato, can be grown all year round, in winter on a windowsill. But then care is more complicated.

There are nuances in composing the soil mixture, the bushes need to be shaped and pinched differently, and the harvest, of course, is not the same, but why not try? Although the description of the variety does not provide for cultivation under indoor conditions.

Why did we focus on Anna tomatoes? Because the photo and description of these two varieties are very similar. Those who have already planted it on their plots affectionately call tomatoes “Anyuta”.

To further verify the similarity of the two varieties, and also to study some points that are very important not only for beginners, but also for experienced gardeners, you can additionally study thematic videos.
