For some reason, my brother and I were not fed lentils as children. The favorite legume on our children's menu was peas. Perhaps it was not sold due to a shortage, or maybe my family was simply not accustomed to this product... One way or another, my young years were about peas, not lentils.

These same small beans that I am talking about today appeared in my life much later, when I grew up, moved from my parents to my husband and became a culinary trendsetter in my own kitchen. At that time, I tried a lot of new products, played with flavors and textures.

Then began the period of my vegetarianism, which, in fact, continues to this day - with a short, almost one and a half year break for a raw mono diet. So, lentils appeared in my diet at that time. I was stumped on finding meatless yet nutritious products and this was a perfect fit.

The funniest thing in this whole story is that my mother and I somehow simultaneously, without saying a word, included lentils in our diet, and began to cook soups. That's what genes mean! Although my mother was not delighted with my vegetarianism, and at the same time she did not particularly like meat - she ate it irregularly, but only when my father cooked something fresh with meat. She herself ate porridge with butter and sometimes included legumes in her lunch and dinner.

One day I came to visit my parents, intending to share my next valuable find with my mother, and she invited me to try her super delicious... lentil soup! We laughed heartily then.
