Marigolds (Tagetes) are a genus of heat-loving plants belonging to the Asteraceae family. Today the culture has about 50 species and is cultivated all over the world. These sunny flowers captivate with their variety of shades, long-lasting flowering, unpretentiousness, and the ability to grow in several ways (seedlings, sowing seeds in open ground in the spring, sowing seeds in the fall). While the first two methods are often used, few people know when to plant marigolds before winter and how.
Is it possible to plant marigolds before winter: when and how to sow marigolds in winter.
Marigolds, another name - Chernobryvtsy, are known throughout our once vast country.
Flowers are grown everywhere: in parks, in city flower beds, in garden plots. But when flowers need to be planted, not every gardener can choose the right time. There are two options for planting seeds. The first is in spring, the second is in autumn. Spring is the traditional time when everything is planted. Or almost everything. Autumn is an ambiguous period. And whether it is possible to plant marigolds before winter, you should figure it out. But first, about the flowers themselves. What are marigolds like?
What kind, not in terms of beauty, but in terms of appearance. There are three main types. It seems like not much, but given the number of varieties in each of them, flower growers have plenty to choose from. Only varieties are more about beauty, but types are already an opportunity to satisfy the wishes and requirements of any person.
The most “delicate” type of flowers. Small velvety inflorescences in large quantities on one bush turn any piece of land into a gorgeous golden yellow-red “carpet”. The bushes are the shortest in height - they grow to a maximum of 40 centimeters. The diameter of the flowers is 2-3 centimeters. 70 varieties of different colors allow you to choose the one that is most suitable for a specific landscape design. The varieties “Lulu”, “Paprika”, “Golden Jam”, “Gnome” have proven themselves well for decorating various kinds of “clearings”.
These are medium-sized plants, growing no more than 60 centimeters. They have spreading bushes, on which inflorescences with a diameter of 5-6 centimeters flaunt. They bloom brightly and for a long time. The varieties “Bonanza Orange”, “Carmen”, “Flame”, “Bonanza Bolero” are popular among flower growers.
If you don’t know which marigolds to plant, these will be just right. The height of the trunk is up to 1 meter, the diameter of the inflorescences is up to 15 centimeters. What other flowers do you need to choose to organize a real live fireworks display on your site? Marigolds this tall, with their vibrant blossoms in lemon yellow and golden orange, can outshine even roses. The varieties “Antigua” and “Kilimanjaro” are prominent representatives of this category.
Pros and cons of planting marigolds before winter
For most gardeners, planting seeds in the spring seems like a familiar thing and seems convenient to them. It’s warm outside, no matter how you plant it, there will be shoots anyway. But when marigolds are planted for the winter, in addition to convenience, there is also a practical benefit.
1. During the winter, plants harden, which means they grow better and get sick less.
2. At the beginning of its development in the spring, hardened marigolds develop a deeper and healthier root system.
3. After winter, you don’t have to figure out the correct planting day; the seeds germinate when they need to.
The disadvantage of winter sowing is the higher consumption of planting material. But if you have your own seeds, collected from your own flowerbed, such a “trouble” can be neglected.
And yet – to plant or not to plant
A question containing two unknowns at once. The first unknown is whether the landing can be carried out. Secondly, if possible, when to plant marigolds before winter and how. Regarding the possibility of planting flowers for the winter, you can answer in different ways - yes and no. This culture, so to speak, loves warmth. Therefore, in regions with not very cold winters, marigolds are successfully planted. In cold climates, plantings are more likely to die than to survive the winter successfully. But even in relatively harsh conditions, flower growers conduct experiments on winter planting, and in some cases even with success.
How to plant marigolds before winter
Chernobryvtsy, they are also marigolds, will be discussed a little further before winter when planting, but first about the planting rules. If all the rules that determine the successful sowing of seeds are followed, young green shoots will certainly appear in the spring. What you need for a successful landing.
Firstly. You need to choose a place. Marigolds tend, perhaps even excessively, to absorb water, which if too much leads to rotting of the root system and death of the entire plant. Therefore, so that water, melt or rain, does not stagnate, it would be nice to organize a flower bed not on a perfectly flat area, but with a slight slope.
Secondly. There will never be more moisture than normal when the soil for planting is loose. If the soil in the selected area is dense, it must be brought to the desired condition. Alternatively, it can be a mixture of turf, humus, peat and sand prepared in a flowerbed in equal proportions.
Third. Since different types of marigolds can be planted before winter, the planting scheme for each of them should be different. Small seeds are sown according to the pattern 20x20, medium 30x30, large 40x40 centimeters. Planting depth: first 1, second 2, third 3-4 centimeters.
Fourthly. About the timing. Anyone who plants marigolds before winter for the first time should know that the seeds are sown in well-frozen soil. And not just when it’s cold, but during a period when the return of heat is unlikely. The temperature will return above zero, moisture will appear in the ground, the seeds will rot and disappear.
Fifthly. To plant seeds in frost, the “beds” must be prepared in September. You just need to “cut” grooves and prepare soil in a warm room for backfilling with planting material.
After laying out, the seeds are sprinkled with warm soil from the room and insulated with a layer of leaves (a layer of 7-10 centimeters). By the way, when planting flowers before winter, you need to take twice as many seeds. If the plantings turn out to be too dense, they can always be replanted in the spring.
Of course, even after all that has been said, the question of whether it is possible to plant marigolds before winter will arise more than once. And not because the explanations were not complete enough, but because by their nature these flowers are very heat-loving, and therefore capricious in relation to the cold. But a real gardener does not look for easy ways, he looks for the opportunity to grow any flowers in the most unfavorable conditions.
Marigolds as fertilizer in autumn – Country house, garden, vegetable garden, indoor plants
When growing plants in field cultivation or gardening, fertilizers play an important role. There are many of them, organic and chemical, widely used by farmers. But nature still has in its arsenal crops and flowers that can replenish part of what they remove from the soil during the growing season. These are green manure plants, green manure. These include, among many others, marigolds.
About green fertilizer
The use of green fertilizers has become especially important recently, as attempts are being made to revive organic farming. Green manure crops are grown for the purpose of their subsequent incorporation into the soil.
These plants are mowed and used for composting, mulching, and preparing liquid fertilizer for feeding and controlling pests and diseases. The positive consequences of such land care are felt for a long time, up to 6 years.
Historical reference
Now marigolds know everything. In Russia they are called velvets and merchants, in Ukraine - Chernobrivtsy, in Poland and Belarus - Aksamitkas, in Great Britain - marigold, in honor of the Virgin Mary. Scientific name: Tagetes L.
The flower received its Latin name in honor of the handsome Tages, the son of Genius, the grandson of Jupiter. He, possessing the gift of foresight, knew how to predict the future. His revelations were recorded in the Etruscan prophetic books for transmission to posterity.
The genus "Marigold" includes almost 60 species. The homeland of the plant is Mexico. The first owners were the Aztecs, its indigenous inhabitants. They called the flower sempoalxuchitl.
It was used in many areas of life, and the attitude towards it was respectful, which has remained to this day. When Europeans appeared on the American continent, the conquest of the world by this plant began.
Now it grows almost everywhere except the Far North. Moreover, there are not only cultural, but also wild Tagetes.
In Vietnam, marigolds are used to decorate the house for the New Year. This flower is considered a symbol of long life. In China, they also symbolize longevity; they are called “flowers of ten thousand years.” In India, he is personified with the god Krishna.
About marigolds
Tagetes are herbaceous plants. There are perennials, annuals are more common. They have straight stems. Height from ten centimeters to two meters. The root is fibrous. The leaves are pinnate, dissected. The plant is decorative, beautiful even without flowers.
Inflorescences come in different colors, shapes, and sizes. Red, gold, burgundy, yellow, brown, bicolor and other marigold flowers attract butterflies to the garden. There are marigolds - simple, double, semi-double. The fruit is a very flattened achene. The seeds are suitable for sowing for up to three years.
The plant self-sows abundantly.
There are seven types of marigolds in cultivation. The most common in floriculture are:
• erect (Tagetes erecta L.);
• rejected (T.patula L.);
• thin-leaved (T. tenuifolia Cav.).
The first two types are used as green manure. This does not mean that thin-leaved tagetes, if it grew in a flower garden, should be thrown away in the fall. In no case! It will also be beneficial. But for a special landing, this is not the one you should take.
Flowers are unpretentious. Everyone can grow them. Often found in cities and in summer cottages, on balconies and even on window sills.
In the language of flowers, tagetes symbolizes the qualities of a lion - courage, strength, power. In India, this flower is considered a symbol of fidelity.
They begin to bloom in June. Flowering continues until frost, which the plant cannot tolerate. This is his only whim. Otherwise, it can tolerate partial shade, although it loves the sun, is resistant to drought, but will be grateful for watering. It can be replanted at any age.
To date, about 600 varieties are known. Plant selection is underway. Especially in Denmark, USA, Germany.
Reproduction
Seeds for seedlings are sown in March. The substrate must be loose. Shoots can be seen after 5 days. Room temperature is quite suitable for seedlings. When the second leaf appears, the seedlings dive. In the second half of May you can plant it in the ground. We must remember to cover the plant when there is a threat of frost.
You can simply plant the seeds directly into the ground. This is done at the end of April, beginning of May. With the first method, there will be earlier flowering and it will be easier to plan plantings.
Marigolds as green manure
Tagetes is not only beautiful, it has a lot of useful properties, thanks to which there are many applications. Used as a medicinal, spicy, coloring agent.
Often used as green manure. The plant is grown in this capacity for about 60 days, then they are embedded in the soil.
Tagetes are considered successful predecessors of sage, barley, and corn. Also, after them or next to them, bulbous plants and perennials, such as tulips, asters, and gladioli, grow well. Many insects - aphids, bedbugs, flea beetles, Colorado potato beetles - do not like the smell of marigolds; they prefer to leave this place. Medvedka is also not a fan of this smell.
Marigolds are excellent plant guardians. They protect roses, phlox, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, leeks, carrots, celery, strawberries, potatoes, cucumbers.
It should be remembered that Tagetes are allelopathic; they can oppress some cultures. This applies to beans and cabbage. You can’t plant a lot of these flowers next to them, although they protect against pests.
In the fall, you need to collect all the tagetis bushes, trim them and scatter them over the beds in the form of mulch. This product will disinfect the soil from fungi that cause fusarium and repel nematodes.
Tagetis is used in infusion with other plants (nettle, alfalfa, tansy, chamomile, and so on). The result is liquid fertilizer. It is rich in potassium and nitrogen, biologically active substances. Garden crops quickly absorb them, so this feeding is very effective.
Fertilizer from plants is made in a wooden, ceramic or plastic vessel, but not in a metal one. The container is filled with finely chopped plants without seeds, or with roots, and filled with water, preferably rainwater. The water is not poured to the top, as the volume increases during fermentation.
It is better to press the mass with a weight; it should be completely covered with water. It should be stirred once or twice a day. The smell of grass indicates decomposition. After about two weeks, the solution becomes dark in color and the foam disappears - this is evidence that it is ready. It will cook faster in the sun.
Take 1 part infusion to 9 parts water; this solution is used for irrigation. For foliar feeding, the infusion is filtered and diluted 20 times. This is done immediately before use.
Liquid fertilizer is produced much faster than compost. It is quickly absorbed by plants. Reduces soil acidity. This occurs due to the alkaline reaction of the solution. With it, microorganisms that have a protective effect enter the soil.
The fertilizing should not be made more intense; it can burn the roots of the plants. After using the infusion, the herb is used again. It must be filled with water, allowed to stand for a day or two and watered without dilution. After this, take it to the compost heap.
It is useful in the fall to water the beds prepared for the next season with liquid fertilizer. Foliar feeding works more actively than fertilizer applied to the soil. It should be done every 2-3 weeks.
Liquid fertilizer will be enriched if you add a small amount of bone meal, blood meal, and wood ash.
Marigolds are also used in the preparation of extracts for pest control.
List of plants whose extracts are used in pest control together with marigolds:• Nematodes – Marigolds;• Raspberry-strawberry weevil – garlic, wormwood, tansy, tomatoes, peppers.• Aphids – Horseradish, tansy, garlic, tobacco, onions, mustard, wormwood.• Raspberry beetle - Wormwood, garlic.• Strawberry mite - Tansy, garlic.• Cabbage fly, larvae - Garlic, sage, wormwood.
• Cotton bollworm - Geranium.
Solution recipe. For 2 kg of dry plants you need 10 liters of warm water. This mixture is infused for 2 days, filtered and water is added up to ten liters. You can add 40 g of laundry soap.

Description and characteristics of the plant
Tagetes (marigolds, Chernobrivtsy, lights) are bushes that can reach up to 130 cm in height.
The leaves are pinnately divided or pinnately dissected, in different shades of green. The plant blooms from early summer until the first frost. Its flowers are large, yellow, orange or with a brown tint. In addition to decorating the garden bed, marigolds have many beneficial properties:
- their smell repels insect pests;
- lutein, which is contained in flowers, reduces the likelihood of developing cataracts and increases visual acuity;
- an infusion of marigold flowers relieves inflammation of internal organs and relieves stress;
- dried raw materials are a seasoning for food.
What kind of flowers are these?
Marigolds are representatives of different species and varieties. The height of the erect stem varies between 0.2-2 meters. Leaves are pinnately dissected, pinnately divided, serrated, rarely entire, green to dark green in color .
The buds can be large, small, simple, or velvety. Color: yellow, orange. There are both calm tones and bright, saturated ones. Some representatives come in two colors.
The flowers gained popularity for their unpretentiousness, frost resistance, and long flowering. In addition to decorative properties, marigolds have medicinal properties; they are used in cooking, as a spice, and in cosmetology.
Rules for planting in open ground
Marigold seeds can be purchased at the store or collected from plants you like that have already bloomed. Subsequently, they are removed from the capsules that form in place of the flowers.
Next, they need to be dried and stored at room temperature until spring.
Planting marigolds in open ground and caring for them does not require preliminary preparation. Seeds can be planted in one of the following ways:
- Dry seeds are placed in previously prepared and watered furrows no more than 3 cm deep at a distance of 5-10 cm from each other.
- Seeds can be germinated 2-3 days before planting. They are soaked for 10 minutes, then left in any container and covered with a napkin with water. When the first shoots appear, they are transferred to the garden bed in the same way as dry seeds.
Marigolds protect neighboring plants from insect pests
When to plant marigolds in open ground depends on the region and soil type. In any case, it is better to plant them in the spring, after the weather warms up, so that the seeds do not freeze and rot over the winter. The sooner they are planted, the sooner they will sprout and begin to bloom. The flowering period continues until the first frost.
Planting marigolds in open ground in the fall is not always possible. They will survive the winter only in southern regions where severe frosts do not occur. In addition, these plants quickly absorb moisture and may rot when large amounts of snow melt.
Can marigolds be grown in pots at home?
Marigolds are flowers with a bright, specific aroma. Therefore, they are suitable for growing on a balcony, terrace, loggia. Lovers of spicy scents grow flowers in the room.
Marigolds are planted not only as ornamental plants. Thanks to their spicy smell, flowers protect themselves and neighboring plants from pests; they are used in cooking as a spice. The plant has medicinal properties.
Plant care
Planting marigolds with seeds in open ground and caring for them will not seem difficult even for novice gardeners. The main thing is to remember that the plant is very heat-loving, and before planting, make sure that the soil has had time to warm up. Planting marigolds and caring for them in open ground during frosts is not always possible. In cold regions they are propagated by seedlings. Seeds are germinated at home or in a greenhouse, and transferred outside only when the soil warms up.
Plants require frequent and abundant watering. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the soil remains loose and permeable to air. Otherwise, individual inflorescences and leaves will begin to rot. They must be carefully removed with scissors and the soil loosened.
Tagetes grows well in any light. The difference is that in open, illuminated areas the bushes will reach their maximum height and the flowers will be larger. In the shade, marigolds will grow short, but will not lose their beneficial properties.
Marigolds grow in any type of soil. They can be planted even in depleted or sandy areas, but subject to additional feeding. Organic fertilizers - compost or humus - are suitable for these purposes.
Marigolds for autumn plantings
All parts of marigolds: both flowers and stems, can be buried in the ground in the fall along with green manure, burying them on the bayonet of a shovel. The result is an excellent fertilizer that will “work” for several years and protect the beds from phytopathogens and pests. If you are preparing a bed for autumn planting of onions, garlic or carrots, then you should dig up green manure and marigolds a month before.
After winter planting of vegetables, the beds can be mulched with spruce branches and cut marigold stems. This will protect the ground from freezing, and future seedlings from pests. In spring, the spruce branches need to be removed, and the marigold stems can be left between the rows.
Marigold diseases
Chernobrivtsy are very resistant to pests. The phytoncides they secrete repel insects, protecting not only these plants, but also neighboring ones. They also maintain immunity to infectious and fungal diseases.
The variety of varieties allows you to create entire compositions from Chernobrivtsev.
There are several dangers to which these flowers are exposed:
- During periods of prolonged drought - spider mites. To get rid of it, plants are pollinated with a solution of colloidal sulfur or used for fumigation.
- When watered abundantly, flowers attract slugs. To combat them, it is enough to place containers with bleach between the beds.
Diseases of marigolds in open ground can be easily avoided. If you control soil moisture and pay attention to pest invasions in time, Chernobrivtsy will grow tall and healthy. Their flowers will decorate the beds and treat the owner from many different diseases, and the plants in neighboring beds will be under reliable protection from insects.

Rules for using marigolds as green manure and how such fertilizer is useful
The productivity and resistance of garden crops to pests largely depends on the quality and composition of the soil.
Therefore, when growing plants, gardeners often use mineral or organic fertilizers, which eliminate the lack of nutrients in the soil. However, it is not always possible to provide sufficient feeding.
In such cases, using marigolds as green manure (a plant that replaces fertilizer) helps.
The benefits and harms of marigolds for a country garden
The beneficial properties of marigolds (tagetes) are determined depending on the growing zone. These flowers are grown near:
- Nightshades (potatoes, peppers, tomatoes and others). This proximity prevents the proliferation of aphids, nematodes, whiteflies, weevils, Colorado potato beetles and other pests.
- Strawberries. A plant next to tagetes is less likely to become infected with gray mold.
- Cabbages. This combination reduces the risk of cabbage fly and white fly breeding.
- Luke. The smell that marigolds emit repels root mites and secretive proboscis.
Marigolds are used to repel insects when growing seedlings. To do this, the plant is planted simultaneously with vegetable crops in a greenhouse. .
Gardeners pay attention to other features that marigolds are useful for. The roots of these flowers contain a substance that prevents growth in the garden:
- purslane;
- creeping wheatgrass;
- horsetail and other weeds.
In addition to fighting worms and insects living in the soil, marigolds provide another useful service: this plant protects against fungal infections. At the same time, despite the described properties, tagetes can harm some crops. Planting flowers next to legumes is highly discouraged.
Using the biological properties of a flower
Due to prolonged use, the fertile soil layer becomes compacted, making it difficult to dig up the garden every year. Planting specific plants, or green manures, which include marigolds, helps to cope with this problem.
Flowers improve the composition of the soil and are used to prepare compost or liquid fertilizer, as mulch, or as a component in the preparation of solutions that are used to treat vegetable crops. One of the important features of marigolds is that the effect of tagetes lasts for 5-6 years.
Marigolds as fertilizer
Some of the most common uses of marigolds include using the flowers as fertilizer. Moreover, to feed fruits and vegetables, you can either plant this plant in the garden or add it to compost or mulch.
Growing as green manure
Marigolds have a fibrous root system. Therefore, if the plant is used as green manure, in the fall it is necessary to cut off the upper part of the flowers. The roots remaining in the ground improve oxygen microcirculation and prevent the development of fungal infections.
If you plan to use marigolds as an organic fertilizer, it is recommended to cut off the stems of the flowers 2 months after planting and place the tops in the soil. The stems rot in the soil, increasing the content of useful microelements.
Mulching
When using tagetes for mulching, with the onset of autumn, it is necessary to trim, chop and scatter the flowers with stems on the garden bed, and then dig up the garden. With the onset of spring, the crop will completely decompose.
This mulch will increase the content of nitrogen and other micronutrients in the soil. At the same time, the rate of moisture penetration will increase.
It is not recommended to use tagetes as mulch in the spring, since the plant does not have time to decompose before planting fruit crops.
Humus
The optimal and simplest way to prepare fertilizer is to create humus. To do this, you will need to dig a hole in the garden with the onset of autumn and lay down the stems and roots of the marigolds. Then the plants should be compacted and filled with plenty of water. By spring, the humus will be ready for use in the garden.
Liquid fertilizer
In addition to the above methods, marigolds are recommended for use in preparing liquid fertilizer. To do this, you will need to chop and place the stems with flowers in a large container (wooden, plastic or ceramic), filling the composition with water. It is recommended to press the raw materials with a press. Then the mixture must be kept in a dark place for two weeks.
During the specified period, the fermentation process begins, which is indicated by foam appearing on the surface of the water. As soon as the composition darkens, the fertilizer is ready for use.
This mixture is used for watering plants. This fertilizer accelerates fruiting and improves growth. Before introducing fertilizer into the soil, it is recommended to dilute the mixture with clean water in a ratio of 1:9. If the composition is used for spraying crops, then a proportion of 1:20 is used.
Application in compost
There are different points of view on whether marigolds can be buried along with other plants used in composting. In fact, this option for using flowers is considered successful. Most gardeners recommend putting marigold tops in the compost pit, since tagetes inhibit pathogenic bacteria and destroy the larvae of the cockchafer.
We use the plant as a fungicide and herbicide
The substances that make up marigolds allow this flower to be used to combat pests and diseases.
Pest control solution
To obtain an effective solution against pests, you will need to mix tagetes with other similar plants:
- tobacco;
- sagebrush;
- nettle;
- alfalfa;
- mustard;
- horseradish;
- tomatoes.
From the resulting mixture you should take no more than two kilograms and add 10 liters of water. The solution is infused for two days in a dark room. After straining, 10 liters of water are re-added to the mixture.
It is recommended to treat fruit and vegetable crops with the resulting composition every 5 days. To increase the effectiveness of the solution, 40 grams of liquid soap should be added to the mixture at the preparation stage. The latter will increase the viscosity of the composition.
Thanks to this, the product will last longer on the leaves of the plant and be better absorbed.
Before planting gladioli, lilies and tulips, it is recommended to soak the bulbs of these flowers in the described mixture for 8-10 hours. This procedure helps reduce the risk of plant infection with fungal infections.
Soil disinfection
Fresh marigolds are used to disinfect the soil. To do this, with the onset of autumn, you will need to bury cut stems and flowers (without roots) in the ground in the garden bed. During the winter, the plant overheats, producing substances that destroy nematodes and other insects harmful to fruit and vegetable crops.
You can also use tagetes for “fallow” disinfection, when flowers are planted for a season in an empty garden bed, and vegetables are placed here the following year.
Folk recipes for aphid infusion
To destroy or prevent the appearance of an aphid colony, you will need to fill half a 10-liter bucket with crushed marigolds (both stems and flowers will be needed), and fill the rest with warm (50-60 degrees) water. The composition should infuse for two days. After filtering, add 40 grams of laundry soap to the solution.
The resulting product is applied to the affected plant from a spray bottle in the following volume:
- up to 8 liters - for an adult tree;
- up to 4 liters - for bushes;
- up to 3 liters - per 10 square meters of garden.
In case of aphid infestation of strawberries, you will need to steep the chopped marigolds in cold water, soak the tansy in hot water for two hours and grate a clove of garlic (each ingredient will require no more than 200 grams). Then all components are mixed and filled with 10 liters of water.
It is necessary to treat crops with the above products until the aphids disappear completely..
The best time to plant flowers
Experienced gardeners recommend starting to grow seedlings in late March - early April , because marigolds develop quite quickly and break through from the seed.
Transplantation of seedlings into open ground is carried out at the end of May, when the threat of return frosts has passed and the soil has warmed up sufficiently, the same applies to sowing seeds.
Although marigolds have good frost resistance, newly planted seedlings are unlikely to survive the winter in open ground.
Perennial marigold seedlings
This is due to the fact that flowers actively reproduce by self-sowing.
When to plant marigold seedlings in 2021 according to the Lunar calendar
Orientation to the phases of the Moon in agricultural technology is based on thousands of years of practice, so the recommendations of astrologers should be trusted.
The landing calendar provides information about the position of the night star on each day of the year. Here, first of all, the phases of the moon are taken into account. For annual flowers, favorable days include the period from new moon to full moon. Moreover, if you choose the first week for sowing, the marigold inflorescences will turn out more lush.
To decide on specific dates, you should take into account what sign the Moon will be in on a given day. Suitable signs for sowing annual flowers are Pisces, Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio.
Favorable numbers:
- in March : 3, 4, from 16 to 18, 22, 23, 26, 30, 31;
- in April: from 7 to 9, 18, 19, from 23 to 26, 28;
When to plant marigold seedlings to bloom in May 2021?
If flower growers want to get flowering marigolds already in May, then the seeds should be sown in February. But in this case, additional lighting with a phyto-lamp will definitely be required.
In February, sowing marigolds according to the Lunar calendar in 2021 can be done on the following favorable days:
- in February : from 1 to 7, 13, 14, from 22 to 25, 28;
Marigolds sown in the last winter month bloom for a shorter period of time compared to those planted as seedlings from March to April. Therefore, in order to enjoy the flowering of Tagetes until the end of autumn, you should plant the second seedlings in April or May.
When transplanting marigolds into open ground in May, you should take into account the weather conditions in the region, since cold weather is possible at this time. Therefore, the gardener should provide the flowers with additional shelter.
On a note! People call marigolds lights, marigolds. In Ukraine, the Tagetes are called Chernobrivtsy. In England - “Mary's gold”, in Germany - “student flower”.
Selecting seeds and preparing seedlings
Regardless of whether marigold seeds are used for growing seedlings or are immediately sown in open ground, they must go through several stages of preparation:
- To begin with, the planting material needs to be disinfected , such actions will help avoid the occurrence of unforeseen situations and diseases;
- Then the seeds are germinated . To do this, they are laid out on a damp cloth and covered with film, while it is very important to create comfortable conditions and warmth. If the outcome is favorable, root embryos will appear on the seeds in 3-4 days.
In order to grow good marigold seedlings, you need to prepare the correct substrate with the following composition:
- 1 part peat;
- 1 part humus;
- 1 part of turf land;
- 3 parts sand.
It is also welcome to have a 2-3 centimeter layer of drainage, which can be made from crushed stone, expanded clay, broken brick or pebbles.
The process of growing seedlings is as follows:
- The soil, as well as the seeds, must be disinfected in advance ; for this, it is spilled with a weak solution of potassium permanganate before planting;
- Then the earth is compacted and seeds are laid on its surface. It is worth noting that marigolds sprout better when planted densely, so the seedlings will have to be thinned out;
- The seeds are covered with a thin layer of soil ;
- Seedlings germinate best at a temperature of 22-24 degrees . Since marigolds reproduce by self-sowing, the creation of special conditions such as a special greenhouse is not required;
- Water the soil as it dries; it is very important to prevent the soil from drying out or becoming waterlogged.
Within 2 weeks the first shoots should appear. In this case, the container with seedlings will need to be moved to a bright room with an air temperature of 18-20 degrees. Watering is carried out in such a way as not to touch the green part. If the plantings are too dense, they will need to be thinned out.
Features of caring for marigold seedlings
Tagetes, like other plants, prefers that the conditions of agricultural technology be observed. But at the same time, culture does not make any special demands.
Basic care comes down to the following points:
- Watering is carried out when the soil has had time to dry slightly;
- it is important that there is no stagnation of water in the pan;
- for better development of seedlings, it will need additional nutrition, which is carried out every 2 weeks, using a universal complex for flowers;
- Fertilizers are not applied immediately, but 10-15 days after sowing and picking, and then according to the scheme;
- if the seeds are not planted densely, the marigolds do not need to be picked; otherwise, the procedure is carried out when 3 carved leaves are formed on the seedling.
When transplanting, the sprouts are buried in the soil so that the cotyledons do not touch the soil. Then the seedlings will not get sick, and a strong root system will develop on it.
Planting marigolds in open ground
Marigolds can grow well in any light, but in sunny areas their flowering is especially lush . It is also worth noting that this plant does not really like direct sunlight.
Sowing seedlings
30-40 centimeters is left between individual plants , while low-growing varieties are planted at a distance of 20 centimeters from each other.
Before planting, it must be fertilized with complex mineral fertilizers.
During planting, the seedlings are carefully lifted with a spatula and transferred to a permanent place; after the plant is firmly in the ground, it is carefully compacted. The next mandatory step is watering.

To plant seeds in open ground, you must initially prepare holes with a depth and diameter of 5 centimeters. The optimal distance between plantings will be a gap of 15 centimeters.
The seeds are placed in pre-moistened holes and covered with a centimeter layer of soil. Further care will be regular and careful watering. The first shoots will appear soon enough; if there are too many marigolds, they can easily be transplanted to another place.
Protecting strawberries from nematodes
Many gardeners are faced with dangerous strawberry pests such as nematodes and weevils. The phytoncides secreted by marigolds repel these insects. Therefore, inflorescences, chopped stems, as well as petals and baskets remaining after collecting seeds can be embedded in the ground between the rows of strawberries. And if, when planting bushes, you put several marigold inflorescences at the bottom of each hole, protection from nematodes is guaranteed!
Caring for perennial marigolds
During the period of active growth, marigolds are watered more abundantly than during the formation of buds and flowering. This is necessary in order to avoid stagnation of moisture in the soil and, consequently, rotting of the root system.
During the growth period, water marigolds more abundantly
Marigolds respond well to the application of complex fertilizers. Such work is carried out three times a year:
- during the period when the size of the plant reaches 10 centimeters;
- at the beginning of bud formation;
- first days of flowering.
When growing plants on fertile soil, fertilizers are not required .
In order for new buds to actively form, it is necessary to promptly remove faded inflorescences, which require strength and attention.
It is also worth considering that tall varieties need additional support , because fragile stems can break from faith or due to the weight of the flower.
Preparing for winter
Marigolds tolerate winter frosts well, so the construction of complex structures is not required.
For the winter, it is enough to cover the marigolds with geomaterial
Further care
Regardless of the planting method, subsequent care consists of periodic weeding and loosening the soil around the plants to increase water and air permeability. In summer, overgrown bushes are pruned to give them beautiful shapes, and faded flowers are removed. Plants bloom more abundantly after pruning.
Watering
During the active growth of seedlings, watering should be intense, but as soon as inflorescences appear, watering is reduced. If there is excess moisture, the plants rot and flowering stops. A sign of a lack of moisture is the lower leaves turning yellow and drying out.
The most popular varieties for growing in the country
There are a huge number of varieties of marigolds, but in the central region three types are most popular.
Rejected
A low, neat plant, the height of which does not exceed 60 centimeters . The bush is spreading, the side shoots are deviated from the main mass.
The flowers are small, usually their diameter does not exceed 8 centimeters. Depending on the variety, the flowers can be double or have a pronounced disc-shaped center. The color can be yellow, orange, gold or two-tone.
The most popular varieties are:
- Carmen - this variety boasts double flowers with ruffled petals. The middle of the flower is yellow-orange, the outer part is red-brown. On average, the height of such a plant does not exceed 30 centimeters;
- Gold Ball is a shrub whose average height is 60 centimeters, strewn with bright flowers with a yellow center and a red edge;
- Lemon marigolds - these double flowers with bright yellow solid petals look great in single compositions;
- Boleros are small bushes, no more than 20 centimeters high. The flowers are very lush and bright, the petals are wavy, colored yellow and red, which periodically replace each other.
Thin-leaved
This variety is distinguished by unusual, openwork foliage . The shrub rarely grows above 40 centimeters.
The flowers are small, up to 2 centimeters in diameter. The petals can be golden, yellow, orange or red.
Most often you can find the following hybrids in garden plots:
- Ursula - the height of the bush is 40-50 centimeters, the petals are golden;
- Paprika – as the name suggests, this variety blooms with bright red or dark orange flowers. The height of the plant itself usually reaches 25-30 centimeters;
- Lulu - the flowers are very similar in shape to yellow-golden baskets. The height of the bush is 25 centimeters.
Erect or African
The height of such a bush can reach 1 meter . The flowers are large, double, usually their diameter is 15 centimeters. Most varieties have a uniform color of cream, yellow or golden color.
The following varieties are very popular among gardeners:
- Vanilla - a 70-centimeter large-flowered shrub literally strewn with large (up to 12 centimeters in diameter) double flowers of a delicate cream color;
- Kilimanjaro - on average, this plant grows up to 70 centimeters. Large, double white flowers have an unusual spherical shape;
- Antigua - this variety blooms with bright baskets of golden, orange and lemon shades. The height of the plant is 30 centimeters.
Marigolds are very bright and beautiful flowers that even novice gardeners can grow.
Types and popular varieties
There are more than 30 plant species in the marigold genus. They are similar to each other in appearance, with a specific persistent aroma and characteristics. In Russia, mainly 3 types of tagetes are cultivated, which can be seen in group plantings in flower beds, in the borders of paths, and in small islands on alpine hills. Flowers also coexist with garden crops.

All types of herbaceous plants are characterized by ribbed stems and pinnately dissected leaves with serrated edges. The inflorescences are represented by a loose basket (simple, double and semi-double), producing a fruit - an achene.
Marigolds: description and characteristics
Depending on the variety, the bush is formed from erect or branched shoots. The root system is fibrous. Leaf blades are divided into pinnately divided or pinnately dissected. The color is uniform from pale green to dark, the surface is matte.
Appearance of marigolds
In the formed flower baskets, the petals are characterized by almost all shades of brown, orange and yellow. During flowering, the plant emits a pleasant, rich aroma, and it comes out more strongly from the leaves rather than the flowers.
Interesting! Today the genus has about 40 varieties, which, due to their unpretentiousness, grow in all corners of the planet.
If agrotechnical rules are observed, flowering is not only lush, but also long-lasting. It begins in the first days of June and ends with the arrival of the first cold weather. After flowering, a linear achene is formed. Such plants guarantee lush self-seeding. The germination of seed can last for 3-4 years.
Depending on the variety, plants can be either annual or perennial.
Medicinal properties
Due to the fact that the above-ground part of the plant has a rich chemical composition, the crop is used for medicinal purposes. For example, the foliage contains a high concentration of lutein, which prevents the development of cataracts. Also, compositions based on marigolds are effective for diabetes mellitus and pancreatic diseases.
Decoctions based on marigold
A decoction of marigolds can eliminate anxiety, normalize the functioning of the nervous system, and also relieve stress. That is why, for depression and neuroses, experts recommend that their patients take baths with similar decoctions.
Marigolds as fertilizer
Marigolds, tagetis, marigolds are the names of a genus of annual and perennial herbaceous garden plants that can not only decorate flower beds, but also be used to decorate flower beds and the surrounding landscape. Marigolds are used as a fertilizer by gardeners.
Biological description of the plant
In nature, there are many varieties of marigolds, which differ in the shape of the bush, the structure of the inflorescence baskets, and dimensions. Depending on the structure of the inflorescences, marigolds can be:
- Anemone-like;
- Clove-shaped;
- Terry;
- Semi-double;
- Simple;
- Chrysanthemum-shaped.
Some varieties are formed in the form of a small, compact bush, others are tall and spreading. The leaves are pinnately dissected on strong, erect stems. The variety determines their arrangement, opposite or alternate, and the color green, from light to dark shade.
Marigolds bloom for a long time; the bushes, abundantly strewn with bright inflorescences, begin to bloom from mid-June until the onset of the first frost.
You can prolong the lush flowering of marigolds that form seed pods by removing faded flowers. Self-sowing Tagetis produces abundant seedlings. Hybrid varieties do not produce seeds, so this rule does not apply to them. .
Planting, propagation and care of marigolds
Growing marigolds as a decoration for a garden or summer cottage is simple. To provide a flowerbed or garden bed with yellow-red-orange blooms, it is enough to plant a small number of seedlings on the site.
Seed germination is very good (marigolds are grown from seeds); the emerging shoots with a pair of leaves can be planted at night temperatures of at least 5°C.
If it is not possible to plant seeds for seedlings yourself, you can purchase ready-made seedlings at the flower market.
When planting and caring for marigolds, you need to remember that plants grow, so when planting them, an interval of at least 20 - 25 cm must be maintained.
During the season, the faded baskets open, and the fallen seeds produce new shoots that can be planted, adding new bushes to the garden.
Marigold bushes require virtually no care. They don't need pruning. During the season, faded baskets of inflorescences are removed from the plant. This procedure improves the appearance of the plant and at the same time stimulates its flowering before the onset of the first frost.
Using the biological properties of marigolds
During the process of many years of intensive exploitation, the fertile layer of any soil is depleted, changes its structure, and becomes very dense. Such soil is difficult to dig.
The most relevant is the use of green fertilizers and the revival of organic farming. It is based on the use of green manure. Crops grown on the site are often used as such. For example, marigolds can be used as a fertilizer that improves soil composition. They are used:
- For making compost;
- As a mulching component;
- For preparing liquid fertilizer;
- In order to improve the soil structure by adding them to the soil;
- For the preparation of solutions used in the fight against pests and diseases of garden and vegetable crops;
The positive effect of such treatment of plants and soil lasts for 5-6 years.
Such a picky plant as the bright Tagethis bush has the properties of repelling pests:
- Planting marigolds around a plot of potatoes, cabbage, and tomatoes cleanses and disinfects the soil from harmful bacteria and microorganisms. The smell of marigolds is intolerable to many insects from the category of pests;
- It is noteworthy that marigolds in areas planned for planting strawberries and wild strawberries clear the land of pests such as nematodes;
- Marigold roots enrich the soil with ethereal secretions that neutralize the effect of fungal microorganisms;
- You can use marigolds growing on the site, as well as dried marigolds, as a fertilizer that can enrich the soil with microelements, improving its structure;
- Tagetis is effective in repelling the onion fly and the cabbage white butterfly.
Aphids on shrubs and fruit plants will disappear if marigold bushes are planted under them. However, planting too much tagethis or adding green manure based on them can slow down the growth and development of plants.
Using marigolds as fertilizer
The presence of single and mass plantings of tagetis in a garden or vegetable plot helps to cleanse the soil of pests and enrich it with useful microelements. The effect of marigolds as a useful plant is enhanced if:
- Bury marigold bushes in vegetable beds or dig them along the perimeter of berry and fruit plantings;
- It is recommended to spray plants with a tincture of dry marigolds. In this way, external nutrition of the plant is ensured and it is protected from pests;
- Marigolds as a fertilizer in the form of a tincture are considered both an effective means of treating and reviving rose bushes.
The use of natural fertilizers in garden, vegetable and melon plots will help revive soil fertility, replenish it with useful nutrients, prevent damage to cultivated plants by pests, and ensure lush growth and high fruiting for plants.

Perennial marigolds: planting and care in open ground
Quite a lot of people wonder how to plant marigolds in open soil. Marigold seedlings are planted in the spring with the arrival of cold weather. The chance of frost should have passed and the site should be sunny with loamy or sandy soil. The culture can grow in shade and partial shade, but in the sun it will happen more actively and enchantingly.
In the selected area, grooves are dug about 5 cm deep, after which the seeds are poured there and carefully covered. If seedlings are too frequent, pick and plant the crop.
Marigolds will decorate any landscape design
Marigolds for seedlings: when to plant
Marigolds need to be grown taking into account the weather and climatic conditions where they grow. Planting time can vary from mid-March to early May. It is necessary to calculate so that after 1.5-2 months the frosts end. For example, in the Moscow region the most favorable period is the end of April-beginning of May.
Note! Thin-leaved marigolds are planted in April so that they begin to bloom in June.
The seeds can lie in the soil all winter without damage, but the plants will most likely die.
Soil preparation
The soil must be nutritious; it is recommended to mix it with humus, sand, peat and turf in equal proportions. At the bottom of the container with seedlings, under the thickness of the soil, lay out a drainage layer of small pebbles, expanded clay and/or sand. Thanks to this approach, excess moisture will not be retained by the root system, which can cause rotting.
Note! As a container, you can use an ordinary plastic container, at the bottom of which several holes are made to allow excess water to drain out.
To prevent the development of diseases, before planting, the soil is treated with solutions of potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate) or a fungicide.
Seed preparation
Immediately before planting, you need to prepare the seeds. To do this, they are wrapped in damp cotton cloth for several weeks, placed in a plastic bag and left warm. One of the main conditions is that the air temperature should not rise above +25 degrees. If the room temperature fluctuates between +15-20 degrees, then after a week the first shoots should appear.
Important! At home, you can implement sowing and seedling propagation methods. This does not require the use of any special equipment.
Now the seeds can be sown in previously prepared soil. The depth of the furrow is about 2 cm, with an interval of about 2 cm. To speed up the process, the container can be covered with polyethylene fiber on top to create a greenhouse effect. The soil should always remain moist. Regular ventilation will prevent the development of fungal diseases.
How to sow marigold seeds in open soil
Seedling care
The plants are not picky, but they like to grow in sunny areas, so it is better to place seedlings on windowsills on the south side, but it is better to avoid direct sunlight.
When 2-3 leaves appear on the seedlings, then it will be superfluous to carry out picking - transplanting the plants into separate containers. This will ensure rapid growth and development of the root system. You can use ordinary soil with the addition of a small amount of nitroammophoska and ash. Feeding with potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen will also have a good effect on the condition of the crop.
Important! When the marigolds have already formed more than four leaves, it’s time to pinch them off. Pinching is necessary so that the crop does not stretch upward, but is more magnificent. The upper part of the stem is cut off, leaving 4-5 leaves. It is recommended to repeat the procedure at intervals of one month.
If you don’t have the time and opportunity to do all the above manipulations, in June you can sow the seeds directly into open ground, then water generously and remove weeds. In the second half of summer, closer to August, the crop should already bloom.
What to do with marigolds in the country after flowering
Marigold flowers are unpretentious plants; they can be perennial or annual. Growing from seeds in open ground is easy; replanting can be done even during flowering. Flowering of marigolds begins in the first month of summer and continues until the first frost.
Marigolds have medicinal and beneficial properties. The individuality of marigold is a rare individual scent. In natural conditions, marigolds have about 35 varieties and a large number of species.
Marigold varieties and types
Erect marigolds are a straight bush with large double inflorescences of a single color, the diameter of the flower is 12 cm. Dense and stable shoots sometimes reach one meter in height. This species is popular among gardeners.
Antigua marigolds bloom in a rich yellow or orange hue, the diameter of the inflorescence is about 10 cm, and the height of the bush is only 20 cm.
Small-flowered marigolds are not a tall bush with a height of 35 to 50 cm. The inflorescences are about 5 cm in diameter, flowering occurs from July until the first frost. The inflorescences sometimes have a two-color tint. This variety is used for planting on borders.
Thin-leaved marigolds are a lush compact bush, reaching a height of up to 40 cm. The leaves of this species are greenish, the shape is slightly dissected. And the inflorescences resemble baskets with a diameter of about 3 cm. This species loves good lighting and is quite thermophilic. Used in cooking as a seasoning.
Rejected marigolds are a good lush bush with numerous flowering, about a hundred inflorescences on one plant, each inflorescence 4 cm in diameter. The height of the bush is from 20 to 40 cm. Among them there are dwarf plants up to 20 cm in height. The inflorescences vary in color, plain and combined in two colors.
Marigolds are low growing
Probably the most popular type, because they have neat bushes, and they serve as an excellent decoration for flower beds, borders, and flower beds.
Marigold Bolero is one of the rejected, low-growing varieties. It is distinguished by a thick cover of leaves, height 30 cm. The inflorescence is about 5 cm in diameter, double with corrugated petals. The color is fiery brown, with a yellow-orange tint at the base.
Tangerine marigold is an annual plant about 25 cm in height. The inflorescences are about 6 cm in diameter. The name is associated with the rich orange color, the inflorescences are double and showy. Marigolds are unpretentious to either moisture or the soil in which they grow. Blooms abundantly until the very first frost.
Also, there are varieties of white marigolds from upright varieties: Kilimanjaro , a rather rare variety. Plant height up to 70 cm, inflorescences double, spherical in diameter up to 12 cm, white and beige.
Popsicle marigolds have neat bush-like feathery leaves. Height is about 35 cm. Inflorescences are about 6 cm in diameter. The shade of the inflorescence is similar to vanilla.
Marigolds Vanilla , height about 70 cm, inflorescences of a cream and whitish hue with a diameter of about 13 cm.

Planting marigolds in open ground with seeds
Planting marigolds with seeds can be done directly in open ground. They are sown in the second half of May, when the soil has already warmed up a little. Sowing is done to a depth of approximately 5 cm.
To do this, a groove is dug about 5 cm deep, watered with water, seeds are sown there and sprinkled with earth. Seedlings are thinned out if they are densely planted.
Before planting marigold seeds, they can be moistened and placed in a piece of damp cloth, wrapped in cellophane, after a few days the seeds will sprout. Such seedlings germinate faster in open ground.

Marigold seedlings
If you want to achieve earlier flowering, it is better to plant marigolds as seedlings. To do this, it is better to sow the seeds in a container early in the spring. For marigolds, growing seedlings is not a complicated process. When sowing, it is necessary to take into account different sowing dates.
In the first half of March, upright ones are planted, and in April, low-growing ones. Planting seeds is not difficult, you just need to provide the marigolds with care after sowing.
The composition of the soil should include peat, sand, humus and turf, all in a one to one proportion. Before sowing, the soil is disinfected with a manganese solution. Don't forget to place drainage at the bottom of the container.
When sowing seeds in a container, try to maintain a distance of about 2 cm, moderate constant watering and a temperature of about 23 degrees.
Watering is done from a sprayer. After the first shoots, and this is approximately the fourth day, if the seeds are fresh, and if the seeds are stale, then the shoots will appear somewhere on the seventh day. We move the container to a cool but bright place.
- Marigolds do not tolerate temperature drops below 10 degrees , they slow down growth and may stop flowering.
- If the marigold seedlings have stretched out, what should you do ? In this case, you need to plant them a little deeper into the ground.
- Is it necessary to pinch the plant ? Under no circumstances should you do this, since the plant will be late in flowering for a considerable time.

When to pick marigolds after germination
After the first three leaves appear on the seedlings, they can be planted. You can pick up young plants by slightly securing the rhizome, planting the shoots in separate boxes, deepening them into the ground up to the cotyledon.
It should be noted that after diving, marigolds will begin to grow rapidly due to an increase in the amount of soil.
Marigold seedlings are planted in open ground two to three weeks after picking. After the seedlings take root well, and for this they require abundant watering and sufficient lighting.
The best period for planting seedlings in open ground is when the air temperature at night is not lower than 6 degrees. Marigolds are not picky about soil, but prefer loamy soil. Taking into account all the varieties and varieties, marigolds must be planted at a distance of about 15 cm from each other. If you are planting adult bushes, then the distance is at least 40 cm.

Watering marigolds
After planting the seedlings, moderate watering is required for their rooting. In hot weather, it is better to water in the evening.
Also, abundant watering is required during active growth; stagnation of water is not allowed, this can lead to rotting of the root system.

How to fertilize marigolds for abundant flowering
Marigolds tolerate all fertilizing well, except humus, but it is better to choose a complex fertilizer. It should be fed 3 times per season, during the active growth of seedlings, during the appearance of buds, and during flowering.
But don't over-fertilize, or your plants will stop blooming. Flowering begins in June and continues until frost.

Marigold diseases and pests
Diseases of marigold seedlings - can occur due to excessive watering or prolonged rains; seedlings can also be threatened by snails and slugs. You can destroy or drive them away using chlorine liquid, which must be placed around the area with marigolds.
In dry times, flowers can be affected by spider mites; they are fought with an infusion of yarrow or onion, sprayed with a sprayer. And to avoid their appearance, it is necessary to spray the flowerbed more often.
Also, marigold seedlings are affected by gray rot and fungus. The cause of the fungus could be high humidity and lack of sufficient lighting. In this case, the plant should be transplanted into light. If gray rot appears on the leaves in the form of brown spots, then the plant will have to be removed.

Caring for marigolds in flower beds
This blooming culture is perhaps the most unpretentious of all. Only calendula is easier to care for than them. You can safely water them no more than once a week.
Marigolds look beautiful in flower beds
To prolong flowering and leave it lush, gardeners recommend removing old inflorescences by breaking them out. Many people wonder how to plant marigolds, or rather, replant them. Marigolds tolerate transplantation well at any age. Throughout the summer they can be transferred from one area to another, and with the arrival of cold weather they can be transferred to a pot with a lump of earth.
Important! Marigolds can withstand lack of watering for up to two weeks.
The answer to the question of how to feed marigolds for abundant and long-lasting flowering is trivial. It is necessary to feed at least three times; at the beginning of the growing season, nitrogen-containing compounds are used to build up green mass and the root system; in the second half of summer, potassium-phosphorus fertilizers are used. The plant cannot be fertilized with fresh manure.
Prevention of marigold diseases and pest control
During flowering, marigolds emit a rather rich and specific aroma that repels pests. However, during prolonged rains, snails and slugs may appear on the bushes. To prevent their occurrence, it is recommended to place a container filled with bleach around the area of the flower bed.
Marigolds affected by snails
During periods of sustained drought, the plant is more susceptible to attacks by spider mites. To prevent its occurrence, it is necessary to water the flower beds regularly and moderately. If the pest does infect the bushes, then it should be irrigated with infusions of yarrow or hot pepper.
Marigolds are unpretentious and easy-to-care plants that, thanks to their bright colors and lush flowering, can transform any garden plot.
