Replanting a rose after purchase
Before replanting a rose after purchase, it must get used to the new conditions. It is enough to give her two weeks to adapt. It is necessary to replant a rose, regardless of what variety it is.
Newly purchased indoor rose needs replanting
The fact is that often a purchased plant is overfed with fertilizer and all kinds of stimulants; this is done so that it grows faster, gains green mass and blooms.
To avoid the death of a flowering crop after purchase, the flower is planted in fresh and fertile soil. But before this, it is necessary to carry out a number of preventive measures on the flowering crop, namely:
- wash the vegetation thoroughly using a mild soap solution;
- arrange a contrast shower, but the water should not be too hot, as this can harm the flower;
- Spray the green mass with Epin solution, it will increase immunity and at the same time stimulate the crop to grow.
Note! For greater effectiveness, after spraying the vegetation with Epin, the bushes are covered with plastic film, it will provide a greenhouse effect.
How to protect your indoor rose from diseases and pests
First of all, it is worth creating conditions in which it will be uncomfortable for pests and diseases to reproduce. For strong immunity, roses need:
- sufficient lighting and watering;
- regular supply of fresh air;
- moderately humid air in the apartment;
- protection from the scorching sun and drafts;
- regular pruning;
- complete feeding;
- proper wintering.
If at least one factor is not met, the plant becomes vulnerable and problems appear. The most common of them is damage to spider mites, which can quite quickly completely destroy a rose.
Signs of spider mite infestation:
- light dots and spots are visible on the outside of the leaves, small crawling mites on the inside;
- the leaves of the plant dry out and fall off, becoming covered with cobwebs.
As a preventive measure, it is necessary to regularly spray the rose with water at room temperature. If mites appear, treat the bush with a soap solution (15-20 g of laundry soap per 1 liter of water) or garlic infusion. Grind 150 g of garlic, add 1 liter of water, let it brew for 5 days. Then strain and spray the plant. Among the chemicals, Actellik, Fitoverm, etc. will be effective. But it is better to carry out the treatment outside residential premises.
Less commonly, roses become prey to other pests: aphids, scale insects, thrips, mealybugs, and whiteflies. For prevention, you can periodically wash the plants with soapy water or treat them with Aktara (in the fresh air).
As for diseases, indoor roses most often suffer from powdery mildew, rust, and black spot. For prevention and treatment, you can use Fitosporin-M, Gamair and other biological products.
Features of plant adaptation
How to replant Kalanchoe - what soil and pot are needed
To successfully adapt a purchased plant, you must resort to three important components. They are as follows:
- carefully examine the flower, it should not be affected by diseases, after which it must be properly transported to a new habitat;
- quarantine the flower so that it successfully passes the first adaptation period;
- provide the crop with basic care in the form of watering and spraying.
If the flower is kept in an apartment, you should take care of the light - it should be moderate. And the temperature regime is optimal 18-20 degrees.
As for open ground, it is worth choosing a place where there is partial shade and there are no drafts.
Transfer time
When is the best time to replant an indoor rose? If we talk about a plant that has long settled on one of the windowsills, then it is best to replant it in early spring. Almost all green pets need to be rehomed once a year, and roses are no exception.
However, after purchasing a bush in a store, it needs to be moved to a larger pot almost immediately, since the containers in which they are sold are almost always too small. But before transplantation, you need to endure a two-week quarantine and give time for acclimatization.
Novice gardeners often ask about how to replant an indoor rose in the fall. And although spring is still considered the best time to change an “apartment,” indoor plants, by and large, do not care when to move to a new place, since climatic conditions do not change much. You just need to try to ensure that the replanting does not coincide with the active flowering phase, although if the roots are already sticking out of the ground or the plant is infected with parasites, then the roses need to be replanted immediately.
Also, many people coordinate the time of transplantation with the lunar calendar and transplant roses only on the waxing moon.
Pot and soil

As for flowerpots, they are selected taking into account the size of the roots. The plant should feel free in the pot. If a transplant is made immediately after purchase, then you need to take a container 2 cm larger than the previous one.
A good layer of drainage is placed in the flowerpot next to the rose.
Ideally, take flowerpots made of ceramics or high-quality plastic. There must be drainage holes at the bottom; if there are none, then you need to make them yourself.
Even before replanting, you should thoroughly wash the pot with soap and then pour boiling water over it.
Indoor rose is one of the finicky indoor plants. The plant is quite demanding regarding the composition of the soil in which it will grow. An unsuitable composition can cause a number of problems in the form of falling leaves or lack of buds.
It is preferable for this crop to purchase ready-made complexes; they contain all the necessary substances. If you decide to make the soil yourself, then it must contain:
- humus - 4 parts;
- turf - 4 parts;
- sand - 1 part.
Note ! Experienced flower growers add a handful of expanded clay chips to the mixture. It provides high-quality air permeability in the ground.
After the flower outgrows
How to replant a home rose after the flower has outgrown? You will need a pot with drainage holes, ready-made soil, and drainage materials. The procedure is somewhat different from the previous one. How to plant a rose in a new pot? Adult plants are transplanted with a “shaft”:
- It is necessary to lower the pot down so that the stem is between the fingers. The container should be shaken. This way you can remove the plant painlessly.
- Expanded clay and soil are placed in a new container. Then the rose is placed and gradually sprinkled with earth.
- After planting, you need to shake the pot to compact the soil. Land is added as needed.
- The first day you cannot water the plant.
These are all the nuances, now you know how to transplant a home rose. After this, you need to properly care for the plant.
Step-by-step instructions for transplantation

Picture 3. It is necessary to carefully remove the flower from the flowerpot so that the roots are not damaged
Replanting a rose in a pot after purchase is carried out in several stages. The first thing you should do is prepare everything that may be needed in the process.
Further, experienced flower growers recommend following the following instructions:
- It is necessary to remove the plant from the flowerpot with extreme care; you must act extremely carefully so as not to damage the roots. The easiest way to do this is by transshipment method.
- Clean the root system from old soil. This can be done quickly and easily by placing the lower part of the plant in boiled water at room temperature and leaving the flower in this state for a while.
- Prepare a flower pot, pour a sufficient layer of drainage into it, which was previously calcined in the oven, this will help avoid various infections.
- Next, new fertile soil mixed with sand is laid out. A rose bush is placed in the center in a vertical position, the root system is thoroughly straightened.
- The plant is held up and the rest of the soil is filled in. At the end everything is thoroughly compacted. As a result, the pot should be filled in such a way that there is only 2 cm of free space left to the edge.
The transplanted culture should be removed to a shaded place for a day. There is no need to water the bush after replanting. Feeding is applied only after the rose has undergone adaptation and is well rooted in the new soil.
Caring for indoor roses at home
Dreaming of having a southern beauty in her home, any rose lover imagines a delightful, lushly blooming bush with large fragrant flowers. But, an indoor rose cannot initially be large. But the active growth of a flower, its lush bloom and life expectancy in your home directly depend on the skill and diligence of the owner of the indoor rose. We will help you figure out how to care for indoor roses at home.
Where to put the flower
The indoor rose loves space. You shouldn't put it in a pile with other flowers. Small bushes will grow successfully on wide window sills in pots; place hanging varieties near the windows on the walls in flowerpots or on flower shelves. These are very light-loving plants. Window sills in all southern directions are fully suitable for growing them. The morning and evening rays of the sun will caress the greenery of the indoor rose. Only the summer afternoon rays of the sun may be unnecessary - you should isolate yourself from them with a light curtain.

In winter, do not place the rose on the windowsill, under which there is a hot radiator. The air will probably be dry. Or cover central heating radiators with wooden or other shields or wet towels. It will be better if you find another place for the bush. Let us add that electromagnetic radiation from household appliances also has a bad effect on roses; keep this in mind when choosing a new location.
In the summer, indoor roses can be taken out into the fresh air: balcony, loggia, veranda. Even to your dacha, if you have one, you can take this southern beauty. Place the pot in a place where there is bright but diffused lighting, since roses do not like intense heat and hot soil in the pot is contraindicated for them. When the outdoor temperature begins to drop to 15 degrees. heat, the rose should be brought indoors.
By the way, in order for the bush to grow beautifully and evenly, it should be turned to the light in different directions from time to time.
Temperature
The room temperature for keeping a home rose is just right. This is from 20 to 27 gr. In addition, she needs fresh air. Ventilate the room where the rose lives, just make sure that it is not exposed to a stream of air from an open window or from an air conditioner.
How to water
In the summer, water the rose regularly and abundantly, as soon as the top layer of soil dries out a little. Drying out the soil, as well as severe waterlogging, are unacceptable for indoor roses.
During the period of active growth and flowering, the flower can and should be sprayed. Only in the morning or evening. Under no circumstances should you spray plants under the scorching rays of the sun! Washing the bush under a warm shower is also useful. It is advisable to carry out this procedure once every two weeks or even more often. Both spraying and bathing in the hot season are necessary for roses. Dry air will cause the leaves on the plant to dry out and insect pests may appear.
Use settled water at room temperature for irrigation and spraying. Pour out excess water from the pan. If your rose is on a windowsill, under which there is a hot radiator, then place the pot in a tray with wet expanded clay. Just make sure that the bottom of the pot does not touch the water - the roots may rot.
After the rose blooms for the last time of the year (in autumn), gradually reduce the number of waterings per week and their abundance. Watering will be in fairly small doses 2-3 times a week. It is better through a tray - the water will be well absorbed into the soil, but will not disturb the roots.
How to feed your home rose
During the formation of buds, start feeding the rose with a complex fertilizer for ornamental flowering plants. If you can find fertilizers specifically for roses, that will be even better. Feed the bush every 7 days until the end of flowering. Some gardeners recommend feeding small doses each time you water your rose. It is believed that small doses are better absorbed and do not salinize the soil.
Old bushes can be fed foliarly - using a small spray bottle, adding fertilizer to the water for spraying.
Feeding is not needed in the following cases:
- after transplanting the rose into fresh nutrient soil for two months;
- a diseased plant, since it does not have enough strength to process and absorb nutrients;
- during the winter dormant period.
How to replant an indoor rose
We talked about replanting after purchasing a flower above. Plan your next indoor rose transplant for next spring. Young plants are usually replanted annually, while adults need replanting every three to four years as needed.
Carry out the transplant as follows. First, place a good layer of drainage material (expanded clay or pebbles) and a layer of fresh soil suitable for growing roses on the bottom of the new pot. In an old pot, lightly scrape the top layer of soil. Then remove the flower along with a lump of earth from the old pot and move it to the center of the new one. Carefully fill all the voids on the sides and top. Water it. If necessary, add more soil so that the rose in the pot does not wobble and holds tightly.
After transplantation, the rose will become very weak and may become a victim of insects or diseases. We recommend, for preventive purposes, to treat it against various types of infections with “Fitosporin” and “Aktara” for insects. When watering, add Fitosporin to the water according to the instructions for use. Preparations such as Epin, which are added to the water when spraying the bush, will help reduce the stress from transplantation and increase the immunity of indoor roses.
If you have a weak, small bush, we recommend digging it on top with a cut-off bottle that has small holes for air exchange. This way you will create greenhouse conditions for the indoor rose, in which it will more easily take root in the new pot. When you see that the rose has taken root, new leaves have appeared, the bottle can be removed. Place the pot on a well-lit windowsill or under an artificial light lamp, depending on how long the daylight hours are at that time.
If nothing unpleasant happened during the winter dormancy, the rose woke up and began to put on buds, then there is no need for replanting with a complete replacement of the soil. The flower has rather delicate roots, and it is undesirable to disturb them for no particular reason.
Choosing a pot
Buy a better ceramic pot, with thick walls and good drainage holes. It should be spacious and high, 2-3 cm wider and 4-5 cm deeper than the old one. Let us remind you that the root system of a rose is sensitive to overheating, so its pot should be light in color. If you have already purchased a dark pot, then place it in a beautiful light-colored flowerpot or wrap it in beautiful light-colored wrapping paper.

Suitable soil for indoor roses
It is better to purchase soil for roses in a specialized store. It should be nutritious and light, water- and breathable. If you are a fan of making your own soil mixtures, then use one of our recipes:
- Mix 4 parts of turf and humus soil and 1 part of sand.
- Mix 1 teaspoon each of coniferous and leaf soil, humus and sand. Add 3 parts of turf soil.
In any case, disinfect all components.
Possible problems
If during transplantation you find that the roots of your rose have darkened, turned black, dried out or rotted, it means that the bush is sick and will soon die without treatment. Try to save your rose.
Free the plant's root system from the soil, rinse it in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Trim off any damaged, blackened or dried roots. Leave only healthy roots - they should be pale yellow or deep white, but dense and thin, wire-like. Powder the cut areas with crushed coal or cinnamon. Now you can plant it back into a well-disinfected pot in new nutritious soil.
If you find that all the roots of the rose have rotted or dried out, you will have to throw away the bush. True, you can first cut cuttings from healthy-looking shoots and try to root them. But we’ll talk about this below.
How to prune a home rose
Not all indoor roses require the same pruning. Some varieties do not require pruning at all, others need to remove branches and weak shoots sticking out in the wrong direction, and still others require the complete formation of the crown of the bush.
If your bush needs pruning, do it in early spring, before active bud growth begins. Start with thinning. Trim branches stretching towards the light, remove dried stems and leaves, excess or weak (thin) shoots, as well as those that do not have a bud at the very top. If you find stems and leaves damaged mechanically, by insects or by diseases, then they should also be removed (and this should be done regularly, and not just in the spring).
On an indoor rose bush with large flowers, you should leave 4-5 buds on each branch and remove the rest. But there is no need to remove the leaves.
In summer it is worth cutting off faded buds. Don't wait for them to fall off on their own. After all, when dried, they still draw in the plant’s juices and spoil the decorative appearance of the rose bush.
It is also advisable to perform sanitary pruning of the bush before going on a winter holiday, so that the flower does not have to spend a lot of effort to ensure its vital activity during hibernation.
So how to prune an indoor rose for the winter? The cut is most often made 0.5 cm above the bud and at an angle of 45 degrees. Use clean, sharp tools to avoid accidentally causing lacerations to the plant, which could even kill it.
Bloom
Under comfortable conditions, indoor roses bloom every two months for a long period from spring to autumn. In winter they should rest in a cool place. Only under this condition will the bush be covered in spring with numerous buds, and then with magnificent fragrant flowers of various colors.
Did you know that thanks to its beautiful and fragrant flowers, legends were made about roses in ancient times? We presented many of them in the article Myths, legends and historical facts about roses.
Rest period
Many people are interested in how to store roses at home in winter. Try to create a dormant period for your flower with an air temperature of about 6-8 degrees Celsius. This period begins immediately after the last autumn flowering, towards the end of autumn. You will see for yourself: the leaves will begin to turn yellow, which means the plant is preparing to go to sleep. Help him. Carry out a sanitary pruning of the bush, cut off the wilted buds with part of the supporting shoots, leaves, extra stems, then the rose will not have to spend extra energy to ensure its vital functions in the winter.
Gradually reduce watering. After a month, move the flower pot to a place suitable for temperature. This must be done, because proper wintering is the key to future flowering and even more. If you have an insulated balcony or loggia, then a pot of roses will be fine there, provided that the temperature does not drop below 6 degrees.
While the flower is in a cold room, do not stop watering at all; it is still advisable to water the rose a couple of times during the winter.
And further. The rose does not tolerate overheating of the soil, but it does not tolerate hypothermia even worse. Therefore, try to keep the underground part of the flower in a pot in slightly warmer conditions than its upper part. To do this, the pot can be placed in a box with sawdust or wrapped in thermal insulation materials. Make sure that the flower is not in a draft. If the room temperature is close to a critical level, wrap the above-ground part of the plant with insulating material.
Around mid-February, the rose will begin to wake up. You will need to acclimate her to room temperature gradually. As soon as the buds appear, start regularly, but in small portions, watering the rose with settled water at room temperature.
If it is not possible to provide a period of rest
If you do not have the opportunity to create a decent winter hibernation for your indoor rose, then create at least a half-asleep existence. Find a cool room in the house with a temperature of 12-15 degrees, water less often, and do not feed. All processes in the plant will slow down, so it will overwinter and return to active life in the spring.
If you don’t have such a cool room, then both the rose and you will have a hard time. She will stand on a hot windowsill, you will monitor the moisture of her soil and environment, spray her foliage, and feed her once a month. You will need to use a phyto lamp or a fluorescent lamp to provide it with bright lighting for up to 14 hours a day. If this is not done, the rose will spend too much energy maintaining vital processes, which will certainly weaken it. Future flowering will be in doubt.

Feeding and watering
Indoor roses can delight you with beautiful blooms almost all year round. Naturally, the plant spends a lot of energy on this process, which is why fertilizer is applied regularly.
Every ten days, mineral fertilizing is applied to the soil in the form of special complexes intended for flowering crops.
Note! The ideal time to feed roses is the second half of the day; the soil is thoroughly moistened before the procedure.
As for watering, after transplanting home roses, water procedures are carried out exclusively with soft water. It is applied at the root, the soil should be moistened to a depth of at least 1.5-2 cm. Further procedures are carried out every two days. The bushes are also periodically sprayed.
How to water a indoor rose
Roses in indoor conditions do not tolerate the soil drying out, so make sure that the soil in the pot is always slightly moist, especially during flowering. Stagnation of water in the pan is also dangerous; do not forget to drain it after watering.
Water for irrigation should be soft, settled, and at room temperature.
The flower will respond well to spraying in the hot season. You should not be too zealous with this procedure so that the leaves do not rot. In spring and autumn, it is better to only humidify the air around the plant.
Spraying will protect the rose from the most terrible enemy - spider mites.
Pruning and propagation
The plant must bloom before pruning. It is best to do this before the rest period. Sick, improperly growing and dried branches are trimmed from the bush using a sharp knife or a special pruner. All other shoots are shortened, and there should be 2 buds left on them.
Before sending a flowering crop for the winter, pruning is carried out, the branches are shortened to a height of 10-12 cm from the soil
You can propagate a flower in different ways. The easiest way to do this is by cuttings:
- select several strong and healthy shoots from the bush; they should have buds;
- treat the cut areas with crushed coal;
- put the cuttings in water;
- After the young roots appear, root them in fertile soil.
Until the plant takes root, you need to keep it under film. Ventilate the greenhouse daily and moisten the soil if necessary.
Note! To make the bush branchy and not elongated upward, it is necessary to pinch the upper shoots of the plant.
If you plan to replant, you can divide the bush and thus propagate the rose. That is, separate the plots from the root system and place them in a separate pot with soil.
Trimming
This procedure is necessary to stimulate the ovary. During flowering, it is necessary to trim off faded flowers. During the planned order, the flower is pruned in the fall to prepare for dormancy. This is also done in the spring.
Pruning is carried out with a sharp tool so that there are no torn parts on the branch, this can lead to the death of the flower. The procedure is performed to healthy tissue, above the kidney. An oblique cut is made approximately 5 mm above the kidney.
Weak or dry shoots and those lacking an upper bud should be removed. When two shoots are intertwined, one must be removed. After pruning, two stems are formed from one bud; the excess ones are cut off. You should not prune in spring until there is ten hours of daylight, otherwise the young shoots will not develop normally.
Keeping outdoors in winter
If you plan to keep the plant outside, then it must be insulated for the winter. This can be done using spruce branches, a special material.
Note! You can use burlap or lutrasil as insulation. These materials will last for several seasons.
Fallen leaves will also retain the necessary heat and prevent the root system from freezing. In addition, they will provide the plants with nutrients.
Transplanted roses require standard care: watering, fertilizing and loosening the soil.
Top dressing
Since water evaporates faster in pots than in open ground, the soil should be fed frequently. Bushes need to be fertilized every 2 weeks in spring and summer. Mineral and organic nutrients should be alternated.
Standard fertilizers should be used. Before this, they are dissolved in water. It is worth considering that it is better not to feed flowers on cloudy, cold days. You should not perform the procedure immediately after purchasing or replanting the plant for a month. It is forbidden to feed diseased bushes.
Tools and materials for rose transplantation
To transplant a plant from an old one to a new pot, you need to prepare some tools and materials. The list of required equipment includes:
- fresh soil, this can be a ready-made mixture purchased in a store or a mixture made independently.
- flower pot, when choosing a container you should give preference to ceramic and plastic products, the pot should be slightly larger than the previous one;
- scissors or garden pruners, with the help of these tools old and diseased shoots are removed, and it will also help, if necessary, to separate the roots in order to propagate the bush.
It is also worth stocking up on water in advance. The liquid should sit for several days. You cannot water flowering plants with cold tap water; this can lead to freezing of the root system and the development of certain diseases.
Preparation
Plants grown for sale are almost always treated with special fertilizers so that they can acquire a good marketable appearance in a short time. Therefore, the purchased flower should not continue to grow in the same pot and in the same soil. Timely transplanting of a rose into a different soil will help it quickly adapt to changed conditions. If this is not done, the flower may drop buds, get sick or die.
Before transplanting a flower into another container, it must be properly prepared.
First of all, the leaves and stems should be thoroughly washed with a soapy solution using a soft sponge, and then place the plant under the shower, alternating low and high water temperatures. In this case, the temperature of hot water should not exceed 40°C, so as not to burn the green mass.
Place the flower pot in a spacious container, pour a little cool water into it and let it stand for 30 minutes. Then the rose bush needs to be sprayed with a growth stimulant, for example Epin. It helps strengthen the immunity of beautiful flowering plants. It is enough to dissolve 5 drops of this drug in 1 liter of water.
After spraying, the plant should be covered with a plastic bag, but so that it comes into contact with the leaves as little as possible. To do this, you can install several sticks around the bush and pull a bag over them. It is important to ventilate the plant daily to prevent excessive humidity in the mini-greenhouse.
When all the buds and flowers have faded, you need to remove them, remove the bag and begin replanting the rose into another container.
When is the best time to do this?
Many gardeners advise replanting indoor roses after flowering. After purchasing, you should wait a little so that the flower gets used to the new conditions. This will allow the indoor rose to avoid stress.
An indoor rose can be replanted at any time of the year. This is possible because there is no significant temperature difference in the apartments depending on the time of year. Of course, it is advisable to replant in the spring. It is worth considering that care after transplantation in the summer is quite difficult to provide, because at first the rose should be in a room with a low temperature.
The plant may need an emergency transplant. Reasons for urgent transplantation include :
- Root growth;
- Flower disease.
Transplanting a bush rose
To replant a bush rose, you should prepare planting holes with a diameter of 50-60 cm and a depth of 50-70 cm about a month before work. It is recommended to fill the bottom with compost or a small amount of mineral fertilizers mixed with fertile soil.
Transplantation technology:
It is very important to shed the soil in the planting hole generously with warm water with the addition of a small amount of potassium permanganate crystals; the grafted plant should be placed in a planting hole with the root collar deepened by approximately 5-6 cm; the rooted plant should be placed without burial, at the same level with the soil surface; the root system should be placed as carefully as possible in the planting hole and carefully sprinkled with garden soil; After planting, the soil around the bush must be thoroughly compacted and watered with warm water with the addition of complex mineral fertilizers for roses.
When is the best time to replant roses?
The optimal time for replanting roses can be considered the beginning of spring or mid-autumn (so that the bushes take root before frost). Where there are early frosts, it is preferable to transplant in the spring. Summer transplants are not advisable, since active vegetation and flowering occur during this period, so the plants may die.
There may be several reasons for changing the landing site:
- unsuitable soil composition (heavy, clay-dominated or too loose);
- waterlogging of the site with surface soil water;
- excessive deepening of the root system on sandy soils or pushing out on clay soils;
- proliferation of neighboring plants.
The consequences of these reasons are:
- poor bush growth;
- dying and drying of branches;
- poor flowering or lack thereof;
- crushing flowers;
- yellowing of leaves;
- loss of decorativeness.
Step-by-step instructions for transplanting a rose to another place with a lump of earth
This method of transplanting a rose with a whole lump of earth is the main one. The principle of the procedure is simple: you need to carefully dig up the roots along with a lump of earth, and plant the whole plant in a new planting hole without damaging the lump or roots.
Important! Before the procedure, be sure to wear thick gloves on your hands to avoid scratching your hands.
The rose transplantation scheme is quite simple:
- Step 1: A few hours before transplanting, you need to water the plant (if the soil is wet, then watering is not necessary).
- Step 2: To make it easier to work with the bush, it is recommended to tie the shoots with twine.
- Step 3: Then you need to very carefully dig around the bush along the projection of the crown. You need to make a ditch around the plant and dig it under the base of the rose.
- Step 4: If the plant’s roots are too long and make it difficult to reach the earthen ball, then you can chop them off with the tip of a shovel (then immediately treat the area with brilliant green or charcoal).
- Step 5: Then you need to carefully pry up the bush with a shovel, and grasping the trunk with your hand, pull out the bush. In this case, everything needs to be done extremely delicately so that the lump of earth with its roots does not fall apart (you can immediately wrap it in a bag or burlap and carry it to a new place in this form).
Advice! If a bush is large in size and it is difficult to simply pull it out, then you can place a crowbar (or a long wooden handle) under its base. And thus pressing on the crowbar, you need to pull out the plant.
- Step 6: Place the rose bush and the earthen ball in the hole. The bush should be in a new place at the same level as it grew before (meaning the location of the root collar).
- Step 7: Fill the voids in the hole with nutrient soil, compact the soil with your hands.
- Step 8: Create a circle around the trunk by making a roller around it.
- Step 9: Water generously (water should be added gradually as it is absorbed). You need to pour about 20-25 liters of water under one bush.
After regular water, you can water it with a solution of a root formation preparation, for example, Kornevin. Thanks to this, the plant will quickly and easily take root in a new place.
- Step 10: After replanting, it is useful to mulch the area near the trunk, but the mulch should not touch the trunk. Suitable materials: peat, rotted sawdust, humus. The optimal layer size is about 5-7 cm.
Advice! If you want to replant a blooming rose, then you must definitely trim all the flowers and buds. Better yet, wait until autumn.
Reproduction
Do you dream of a luxurious home rose garden? This is completely doable, but it will take time and some effort.
Indoor roses reproduce well vegetatively, through cuttings 10-15 cm long. It is important that they have 3-5 healthy buds. Future shoots should be placed in a glass of water at room temperature for 2-3 weeks, until roots appear. As the water evaporates, it needs to be added to the glass, but not completely replaced.
Place the container with water in a well-lit place, avoiding direct sunlight. As soon as the roots appear, the cuttings can be carefully transplanted into a pot of soil and covered with a jar, creating greenhouse conditions for the plant. With the appearance of new leaves, the young plant must be gradually taught to do without shelter, lengthening the periods of ventilation. On young plants, you need to remove the first buds so that the bush can take root well and become stronger.
Rules of care
After transplantation, the capricious beauty must be provided with optimal conditions for adaptation, as well as further growth and flowering. Like its garden brethren, the indoor rose requires care, replanting, watering and fertilizing in compliance with the basic rules of agricultural technology. Let's look at each of them in more detail:
- Choosing a location. The indoor rose prefers well-lit places, but does not tolerate heat well. It is advisable to place the flower on the south-east window, in a ventilated room, it is important to avoid drafts.
- Temperature and humidity. The optimal temperature for the plant is +20...+25 °C in summer and spring with a humidity of 60-70%. In a dry room, the rose must be sprayed regularly (every two days); it is advisable to place the pot in a tray with expanded clay and fill it with water to increase humidity.
- Watering. Excess moisture is detrimental to roses. That is why you should water only as needed, when the top layer of soil dries out. In autumn and winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced. Experienced gardeners recommend using settled water at room temperature. It is necessary to water the bush at the root.
- Feeding. It is advisable to use organic and mineral fertilizers. The frequency of fertilization depends on the age of the plant and the season. In the spring, during the period of active growth and formation of buds, the plant should be fed weekly with nitrogen fertilizers. In summer, during the flowering period, phosphorus-potassium fertilizers are required. The frequency of feeding is once every 2-3 weeks. Organic fertilizers should be alternated with mineral preparations. In winter, the plant does not need feeding. A purchased rose should not be watered with a fertilizer solution in the first two months.
- Pruning and wintering. A guarantee of successful wintering of roses is to lower the air temperature in the room to +8...+10 °C. The bush must first be prepared by removing dry leaves, flowers and shortening the main shoots. It is advisable to leave 5-6 buds on each branch. During the winter dormancy period, you need to protect the rose from drying out, occasionally moistening the ground with water.
With proper care, the rose will again delight its owner with an abundance of flowers when it awakens from sleep in the spring.
Pests and diseases of roses
Timely prevention, compliance with temperature conditions and sufficient humidity help protect the charming beauty from diseases and pests. If a plant gets sick or suffers from pests, you should help it cope with the disease.
Very often, roses are attacked by spider mites, aphids, and whiteflies. The salvation will be regular spraying, a warm shower and the use of the drug "Aktara" for prevention. A soap solution helps a lot, but it must then be rinsed off thoroughly.
Among the main diseases affecting roses is powdery mildew, which is treated with fungicides. Spraying with a solution of Bordeaux mixture helps against rust, and black spot is “afraid” of copper-containing preparations. Don't forget to remove damaged leaves and shoots.
Miniature roses. Transfer
Two clarifications need to be made here. Firstly, why is there a need to rush to transfer? Imported roses are placed four pieces in 10-centimeter pots or three pieces in 6-centimeter pots. Thus, rose seedlings are located at a distance of 1-3 cm from each other. However, these plants love space; Moreover, each of these seedlings is destined by nature to become, albeit small, a bush. In such close quarters, they quickly begin to oppress each other, not to mention the fact that there is not enough water and nutrients in one small pot for everyone. So it is necessary to replant. You cannot delay this, because the roots of the seedlings develop as actively as the above-ground shoots. Miss the time - and they will become so intertwined that later you will have to literally tear them apart, after which the roses will need new resuscitation.
Secondly, anticipating some skepticism about the lunar calendar, I nevertheless strongly recommend not to neglect it. Roses don't care under which Moon you water or fertilize them. But when it comes to mechanical procedures, they show great sensitivity to the Moon. Replant the rose under the “correct sign” - it won’t even notice it. And by “wrong” - he will be sick for a long time, or even die. Therefore, remember: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio and Pisces are suitable for transplanting roses. Prohibited signs: Aries, Leo and Aquarius. The remaining signs are “neither fish nor fowl.” A waxing Moon is preferred, but a waning Moon will do, but avoid new moons, full moons and eclipses!
For transplant you will need:
- one pot for each seedling, with a diameter of at least 10-12 cm (but not too large). There is no need to buy expensive pots - soon they will become too small for the roses. Even plastic food containers with a volume of at least 0.5 liters are suitable, provided the specified width is observed. In any case, be sure to make drainage holes in them;
- good soil in sufficient quantities. Young plants, unlike adults, are quite sensitive to soil quality. I have tried different earthen mixtures, but the one my roses like best is Rose from Wonder Garden. Other soils from this series are also suitable; they are approximately the same in structure, differing only in the dosages of fertilizers;
- Expanded clay drainage is desirable, but not required. Roses grow well without it, but they still enjoy it better with drainage.
Of course, you know how to transplant, but let me remind you of just one thing: take care of the roots!
Ideally, you should have time to transplant before the young shoots begin to grow (especially in summer). If the shoots have already begun to grow, replant them anyway, but be prepared for the roses to get sick for two weeks. Young shoots will “hang their ears”, perhaps their tops will even dry out (in this case they will need to be cut back to the healthy part). Don't be afraid, this will not harm the plant and will not reduce the intensity of subsequent flowering! Once all signs of wilting have disappeared, the plant can be exposed to the sun. Place transplanted plants in the sun after three days before young shoots appear. If replanted in winter, shoots will begin to grow in February.
