Cucumbers of the Lyutoyar variety are stored well for several days and tolerate transportation well, so they are often grown for sale

Key Features

Cucumber Lutoyar F1 was bred by Turkish breeders. The seeds have been sold under this name since 2015, but they appeared much earlier under the name Janissary. This is the same variety, only renamed by the originating company. Grown throughout Europe, plants do better in greenhouses, but also produce good harvests in open ground.

Distinctive features

Another distinctive feature of the plant is that it has an exclusively female type of flowering. This means that an ovary will form on each flower.

Description of the bush

The length of the cucumber stem does not exceed average size. The leaves are not small or large, and have a rich green tint. One leaf axil can form from 2 to 4 ovaries. The growing season takes on average 40 to 50 days.

7 kg of fruits are collected from one bush during the fruiting season. The culture is resistant to powdery mildew, cucumber mosaic, and downy mildew. Almost no more white or gray rot. These features are important if the weather conditions outside are unfavorable.

Description of fruits

The ripe vegetable is small in size - 12–13 cm in length. Its diameter is 2.5–3 cm, and its weight ranges from 95 to 115 g. The fruits are dark green in color. The shape resembles an elongated cylinder, which is covered with large tubercles.

It has frequent pubescence and white spines. Does not turn yellow or overgrow. The crispy flesh is covered with a thin, savory skin. The pulp is light green with small seeds, without voids. The characteristics of the fruits of the crop indicate that they can be safely used for preparing various dishes.

Suitable for salting, marinating, preparing summer salads and all kinds of snacks.

Fresh cucumbers are good for the human body. Vegetables contain alkaline salts, which prevent the development of kidney stones and sand. They also prevent skin aging. They contain easily digestible iodine compounds and fiber, which stimulate proper intestinal function.

Application

Excellent taste makes the fruits of this variety a good choice for almost any use. You can eat them fresh – whole or in salads. Perfect for preparing any marinades. And their small size provides them with an excellent appearance when salted whole. The almost complete absence of seeds will please any gourmet - this makes the fruits more tender and palatable.

Characteristic features of the variety

The designation “F1” in the name indicates that this is a hybrid variant. Therefore, you should not collect seeds yourself; they do not retain the characteristics of the parent plant. You need to buy planting material every year, and this is a minus, since it is not cheap and fakes are often found on sale. Main advantages:

  1. The hybrid is grown both in autumn-summer and summer-autumn rotation. It belongs to the mid-early varieties; in the first rotation, plants begin to bear fruit after 50-55 days, in the second - after 35 days. In unfavorable weather and low average daily temperatures, the ripening period increases by 1-2 weeks.
  2. This is a parthenocarpic (self-pollinating) variant. For the formation of ovaries, other varieties nearby and pollinating insects are not needed. Female flowers predominate; male flowers are found in no more than 20%.
  3. 2-3, less often 4, fruits are tied in the internodes. The plants are short, usually do not grow more than 2 m. The leaves are small in size and dark green in color. The root system is small, so loosening should be done carefully.
  4. The variety grows best in greenhouses. In the open air, the yield is an order of magnitude lower, but the plants can normally withstand differences in day and night temperatures.
  5. Planting density is no more than 2.5-3 plants per meter. The lashes grow greatly and take up a lot of space. At the same time, for normal fruiting, the ovaries need a lot of sunlight. When thickened, the likelihood of infection with fungal diseases increases sharply.
  6. Fruits of universal use. Can be used both for salads and for any preparations. They remain fresh for a very long time, which is why they are so popular among those who grow cucumbers for sale. They tolerate transportation well, the presentation is almost not affected during transportation.
  7. The fruiting period is long. With proper care and timely feeding, cucumbers will set until the end of September or before the onset of cold nights. If there is a lack of nutrition, fruiting stops by the end of August.
  8. The variety is resistant to downy mildew, bacteriosis, cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew, white and gray rot. Resistance to other fungal diseases is above average; usually the plants suffer almost no illnesses. Pests appear on the Lyutoyar hybrid no more often than on other varieties.

Important! Cucumbers of this variety are not prone to overgrowth and yellowing. This is important for those who cannot harvest every day and visit the site 1-2 times a week.

This option differs from other hybrids in that even without the formation of lashes it forms many ovaries. Most analogues are demanding on shaping and without it they will not realize their potential even by half. But to get the maximum yield, you should take a little time and form the plant correctly.

Characteristics of Lyutoyar cucumbers

The plants are not too long, but they should still be staked. If the branches spread along the ground, they will rot after watering, like the vegetables themselves, which will significantly reduce the yield.

On branches of medium length there are a small number of green, medium-sized leaves. The green mass is not removed, as it does not interfere with sunlight reaching the fruit. The hybrid is unpretentious in care. Lyutoyar can withstand various weather conditions. To get a good harvest, it is enough to moisten the crop in a timely manner - cucumbers love water, and also loosen the soil around the plants so that the roots receive more oxygen.

The length of small vegetables is 12-13 cm, the weight of the fruit is from 100-110 g, the diameter is 2-3 cm. Rich green cucumbers are shaped like an elongated cylinder. During the growth process, greens do not turn yellow. The shell is not very dense, the flesh is crispy. The number of seeds in vegetables is small, there are no voids. The fruits ripen in 40-50 days. Vegetable growers harvest about 7 kg of harvest from one plant.

Gardeners who have already grown the Lyutoyar f1 hybrid on their plots note the high taste of the fruit. Tender sweet vegetables completely lack the taste of bitterness. The pulp is juicy and aromatic. The fruits are used for preparing summer salads and winter preservation.

On a note. Fresh cucumbers can be stored for up to two weeks.

Features of agricultural technology

This variety of cucumbers can be grown either by seedlings or by direct sowing of seed material in prepared soil. When using the seedless planting method in open beds, it is advisable to sow cucumbers under a film, which can be removed when consistently warm weather sets in.

Further care for cucumber bushes is usual. Be sure to remove weeds and water the plants regularly. Fertilizing several times a season also has a beneficial effect on them.

Attention! These cucumbers are recommended for vertical cultivation with obligatory staking to a support, since when the stems lie on the ground, rot may appear on the branches, as a result of which the plant yield will decrease.

Features of fruiting and productivity

Lyutoyar cucumbers have an attractive appearance and retain it even during long-term storage. The greens will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, while retaining good taste. The variety is considered a gherkin variety, so the fruits are often harvested without waiting until they reach technical maturity. The features are:

  1. The length is usually from 12 to 13 cm. The diameter is 2-3 cm. The fruits have the shape of an elongated cylinder.
  2. The surface is coarsely tuberculate, dark green in color with numerous tubercles and white spines.
  3. The skin is of medium density, but protects well from damage. The pulp is crispy and juicy, with a characteristic cucumber aroma.
  4. The seeds are small in size and almost unnoticeable when eaten. Voids do not form if you follow agricultural practices and do not apply too much fertilizer.
  5. Up to 20 fruits can ripen on one vine at the same time. Most fruits are harvested in the first half of the growing season.
  6. The yield is about 7 kg per plant. Indicators in open ground are 20-30% lower. It is also very important to follow agricultural practices and constantly fertilize.

When using cucumbers for preparations, it is best to carry out the work on the day of collection. If they have been lying for more than 12 hours, then you should soak them for 2-3 hours. When storing, do not spread the greens in a thick layer so that the top layer does not deform the lower fruits. The best storage conditions are a darkened space with a temperature of 2 to 5 degrees.

The main advantages are: no pollination required, short ripening time, possibility of planting in two turns, high yield, resistance to major cucumber diseases, good transportability.

Cons: the price of seeds is higher than most other varieties, there are many fakes on sale.

Positive traits

The characteristics of the cucumber are at the highest level, thanks to which “Lyutoyar F1” grows even in the beds of inexperienced summer residents:

  • self-pollinating;
  • early ripening;
  • productive;
  • disease resistant;
  • transportable;
  • unpretentious.

Advantages and disadvantages

Among the advantages of the hybrid variety Lyutoyar F1, a number of characteristics of these cucumbers are noted:

  • pleases with excellent yield indicators;
  • bear fruit consistently in hot and cool weather;
  • are distinguished by their unpretentiousness in cultivation;
  • stand out for their commercial qualities, transportability, and shelf life;
  • have excellent immunity to diseases.

Advice. The hybrid is resistant to major cucumber diseases in a greenhouse, but may be susceptible to attack by pests. Therefore, preventive measures are recommended, carried out as necessary.

If we talk about the disadvantages of this Turkish hybrid, then the inability to prepare your own seeds is practically the only disadvantage of Lyutoyar F1 cucumbers.

Reviews from gardeners

Anna, Krasnodar

I bought the seeds after reading reviews on the Internet and have never regretted it. The variety's yield is high, the vine stretches upward and does not grow to the sides, the seedlings tolerate planting well in the ground and quickly begin to grow. Care is no more difficult than other varieties. Cucumbers are delicious fresh, and in salads they are simply delicious! But it is better to collect greens with gloves, as they are very prickly.

Natalia, Minsk

Very unpretentious and easy to care for cucumbers. I grew it according to the recommendations on the packaging and followed all the deadlines. I planted them in a film greenhouse, they bore fruit for a very long time and did not get sick even once during the entire season. Cucumbers are good both fresh and pickled. I tie it onto trellises and pinch the top at the level I need for convenience.

The Lyutoyar variety enjoys well-deserved popularity, as it is unpretentious in care and bears fruit well both in greenhouses and in open ground. With proper preparation of seedlings and following the basic rules of care, up to 7 kg can be removed from the plant. Cucumbers are equally good both fresh and prepared.

Suitable landing conditions

Now you know the description of Lyutoyar cucumbers. Reviews and photos of the variety presented in the article will allow you to get a more holistic picture of it. If you decide to grow this particular variety, it will be helpful to share some information.

Let's start with the fact that you should plant seeds in open ground only when the threat of frost has completely passed. Otherwise, you may be left without a harvest. In the most severe regions, it makes sense to grow seedlings at home, planting them at the end of May to avoid frost, or use greenhouses.

The optimal temperature during the daytime is about 20-22 degrees above zero. At night, it is undesirable to fall below +15 degrees - this will not harm the plant, but will significantly slow down growth.

A sunny day should be at least 12-14 hours. Fortunately, in most regions of our country there are no problems with this.

If you grow cucumbers in a greenhouse, then make sure there is fresh air - in a stuffy room, growth rates drop.

Finally, don't forget to water regularly. Like any varieties of cucumbers, Lyutoyar needs a lot of water. If it doesn’t rain heavily at least two or three times a week, you need to solve the problem of lack of moisture on your own.

Main advantages

As mentioned above, with good care, the Lyutoyar cucumber variety (see reviews and photos in the article) allows you to get approximately 18-21 kilograms of fruit per square meter.
This is a very good indicator, because on average most varieties provide a yield of 9 to 25 kilograms from such an area. Moreover, early ripening ones usually have lower productivity. For some regions of our country, hot days can become a real disaster. Greenhouses get very hot (especially if there is no way to ventilate it) and the temperature inside rises to 40 degrees Celsius and higher. This often leads to the dropping of flowers and ovaries. However, when growing “Lyutoyar” you will not encounter such a problem - this variety can withstand up to 50 degrees without dropping the ovary!

High resistance to diseases, which often deprive even experienced gardeners of their harvest, is another important advantage due to which it is highly valued.

The fruits are quite small - on average 10-12 centimeters in length and weighing about 100 grams. At the same time, they are dense, very strong and at the same time juicy. This makes them an excellent choice for long-term transportation - for many summer residents this indicator is especially important. No one wants to grow cucumbers that they can’t bring home from their dacha to the city. And for sale, such fruits will be a good choice - many people prefer to buy several small cucumbers instead of one large one.

A significant shelf life (up to two weeks in the refrigerator at a temperature of 2 ... 5 degrees Celsius) complements the overall picture.

Technology for growing cucumbers Lyutoyar F1

The technology for growing Lyutoyar cucumber in a greenhouse and open ground is no different from the process of planting other varieties. To grow cucumbers, you need to choose light soil, the area should be well lit by the sun and have a fence that can protect from gusts of wind. Sowing can be done in several ways: seedling method and direct sowing in open ground. For 1 sq. m it is recommended to plant 2-3 cucumber bushes.

During the growing process you will need:

  • carry out timely watering in the evening;
  • loosen the soil;
  • remove weeds;
  • apply fertilizers and fertilizing.

This is the only way to get a high yield.

Attention! Since this variety of cucumbers ripens early, Lyutoyar F1 can be grown twice in one season.

Direct planting in open ground

Many experienced gardeners recommend planting cucumbers in the place where tomatoes, cabbage or onions previously grew. As a rule, choose a place that is best illuminated by sunlight and where there are no strong gusts of wind. Lyutoyar F1 cucumbers are planted directly in open ground. During the planting process, you should maintain the recommended distance between seeds - 60 cm. First, compost is poured into the holes and a small amount of soil is placed on top, only after that the seed is laid out.

Growing by seedlings

If the seedling method is chosen, then planting the seed should be done from the second half of March to the second half of April. The work algorithm looks like this:

  1. Before planting, it is recommended to disinfect the seeds and keep them in the Fitosporin solution for 15 minutes, following the instructions.
  2. Then the seeds are placed in damp gauze and kept for some time at room temperature.
  3. After the shoots have appeared, they begin sowing.
  4. Prepare a mixture of soil, peat and humus.
  5. The resulting soil is poured into containers, grooves are made and seeds are planted.

At the moment when 5-6 leaves appear, the seedlings can be planted in open ground.

Planting seeds

The Lyutoyar cucumber is planted for seedlings in March-April. The seeds remain viable for 10 years, but to obtain a good harvest it is recommended to use planting material no older than 3-4 years.

Seeds of the Lyutoyar variety are placed for 2-3 hours in a solution of potassium permanganate or the drug Fitosporin. Disinfection of planting material will avoid diseases and ensure the formation of healthy cucumber seedlings.

Then the plant seeds are placed in a damp cloth and kept for 2 days at a temperature of 20 °C. The next step is to place the seeds in the refrigerator for 2 days. Such preparation, due to changes in temperature, stimulates the germination of cucumber seeds.

Important! Cucumber seedlings are grown in light fertile soil or cups made of peat and humus.

The substrate for seedlings is obtained by combining humus, peat, and sawdust in a ratio of 2:2:1. The soil mixture is filled into boxes or individual containers. By using small cups you can avoid picking plants.

Seeds of the Lyutoyar variety are placed in moistened soil in increments of 2 cm. A layer of peat or soil is poured on top. Cucumber plantings are covered with paper and kept at a temperature of 22-28 °C.

Conditions for seedlings

After the cucumber sprouts appear, the containers are transferred to a lighted place. The development of seedlings occurs under certain conditions:

  • daytime temperature from 20 to 22 °C;
  • temperature at night is not lower than 15 °C;
  • lighting for 12-14 hours;
  • supply of fresh air;
  • regular soil moisture.

Cucumbers of the Lyutoyar variety are provided with continuous lighting if the daylight hours are not yet long enough. Phytolamps or fluorescent lighting devices are installed above the seedlings. They are turned on in the morning or evening to avoid stretching the plants.

When the second leaf of the Lyutoyar cucumbers appears, the plantings are watered with a solution of nitroammophoska. For 1 liter of water add 1 tbsp. l. fertilizers Nitroammophoska contains nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, which ensure the development of plants.

Plantings are watered with warm water when the soil begins to dry out. As the cucumbers grow, you can add a little soil to the container. Seedlings are picked when the plants develop 2-3 leaves. Cucumbers react negatively to transplantation, so it is better to avoid it and use separate containers for planting.

A week before planting, Lyutoyar cucumbers are taken out to the loggia or balcony, where they are kept for several hours. The period of exposure to fresh air is gradually increased. This will allow the plants to quickly adapt to natural conditions.

Landing in the ground

Lyutoyar cucumbers are transferred to a permanent place after warm weather sets in. The plants should have 3-4 leaves. Cucumbers are usually transplanted in May.

The crop is grown in a well-lit area or in partial shade. When planting in open areas, support is installed in the form of metal arcs, trellises or mesh.

Cucumbers prefer fertile, well-drained soils with low nitrogen concentrations. Acidic soil must be limed. The culture grows well on peat soils with the addition of sawdust.

Attention! The best predecessors for cucumbers are tomatoes, cabbage, and onions. Planting after watermelon, pumpkin, melon and zucchini is not recommended.

Lyutoyar cucumbers are placed in beds at intervals of 60 cm. Compost or humus is added to the planting hole, which is covered with fertile soil. The plants are lowered into the holes, their roots are covered with earth. The last stage is abundant watering of the plantings.

Further care

The procedure is performed in the morning or evening. In this case, the liquid is poured under the root and try not to wet the tops. If there are problems with water shortage for irrigation, mulching is performed. This will prevent the rapid evaporation of moisture from the soil. Straw, peat, manure, pine needles or compost are usually used as mulch. They also try to avoid excess moisture, as this can lead to the development of infectious diseases. And in this case, mulch also helps. It absorbs a large percentage of moisture and then slowly releases it.

Attention! Before moistening the soil, the water is heated to room temperature. Watering with cold liquid can cause a decrease in yield and rotting of the root system.

To get a rich harvest, be sure to fertilize

The only exceptions are those situations when the crop grows on fresh soil, rich black soil, which contains a large number of microelements. Immediately after planting, the beds are watered with phosphorus mineral fertilizers. Shortly before flowering, the soil is enriched with potassium. This allows you to increase the number of buds and increase productivity. As an alternative to mineral fertilizers, chicken manure diluted with water in a ratio of 1:15 is often used. Wood ash is also used. Pour 100 g of it into 5 liters of water and mix thoroughly. Natural fertilizers also give good results

To get a rich harvest, be sure to apply fertilizing. The only exceptions are those situations when the crop grows on fresh soil, rich black soil, which contains a large number of microelements. Wood ash is also used. Pour 100 g of it into 5 liters of water and mix thoroughly. Natural fertilizers also give good results.

When weeds appear in the beds, they are removed immediately. Weeds draw moisture and nutrients from the ground intended for the crop. In addition, insects, viruses, bacteria and fungi actively multiply in thickets, so cucumbers growing in unkempt areas get sick more often. Care also depends on the type of soil. Thus, light, sandy soils are rarely loosened or not done at all. But if the soil contains a large amount of clay, then this procedure is performed often. If this is not done, the soil will quickly become crusty and air will stop flowing to the roots.

Under the weight of filling cucumbers, branches often break off. To prevent this, the vines are tied to a trellis. The bushes themselves are formed in a special way:

  • The main stem is pinched at a height of 1.5 m from the ground surface;
  • remove all stepsons and ovaries on the first 3 leaves;
  • then the stepsons are removed from the next 8 sinuses;
  • Above, only second-order shoots are pruned.

Lyutoyar, like many other hybrids, has strong phytoimmunity. However, if agricultural practices are not followed, the plant may be damaged by fungal infections. To avoid troubles, the crop is sprayed with fungicides several times a season (Previkur, Ordan). Among the insect pests, bushes are often attacked by spider mites, aphids and ants. Initially, they are fought with folk remedies, but in advanced cases they resort to chemicals. Gardeners often spray cucumbers with garlic solution. A good result is obtained by dusting the tops with ash and tobacco dust.

Harvesting

They begin to pick fruits a month after planting the seedlings in a permanent place of growth. Due to the long-term growth of side shoots, this period is quite long, and the last cucumbers can be harvested after a few weeks. In southern regions or greenhouses, this variety can be harvested twice per season.

As you can see, the Lyutoyar F1 cucumber variety is an ideal option for most regions. The main thing is to adhere to the recommendations outlined, and then no problems should arise.

Watering

It has already been said above that cucumbers are a moisture-loving crop. This is demonstrated by the fact that the fruit consists of 90 percent water.

In general, in most regions of our country there are no problems with precipitation. However, dry years happen everywhere. If there has been no rain for a week, you will have to take on the solution to the problem. It is especially important to provide the bushes with the right amount of moisture during intensive growth and flowering. In the first weeks of growth, until the plant has acquired a powerful root system, you need to water the beds at least twice a week, spending about 4 liters of water per square meter. During flowering and fruit formation, this figure increases significantly - up to 12 liters.

If there are problems with a lack of water for irrigation, mulch should be used. It allows you to significantly reduce the amount of evaporated water. You can mulch the beds with straw, peat, manure, pine needles or compost.

Excess moisture should also be avoided. This sometimes leads to the development of infectious diseases that can harm plants. And in this case, mulch can help out. Any mulching materials absorb a large amount of moisture and release it gradually, which is a serious advantage in such a situation.

Diseases and pests

In accordance with the description, Lyutoyar cucumbers are characterized by resistance to the main diseases of this crop. Diseases develop with high humidity, violation of irrigation regime or agricultural practices. To prevent diseases, plants are treated with fungicides and moisture and fertilizers are added in a timely manner.

In greenhouse conditions, Lyutoyar cucumbers rarely get sick, but are more susceptible to attack by pests. Plantings attract aphids, spider mites, and ants. To combat insects, chemicals or folk remedies are used.

For preventive purposes, cucumbers are treated with an infusion of onion peels or garlic. Plants are also dusted with tobacco dust or wood ash.
